Now from my experience I get LOTS of people into the game. I also tend to see what really knocks lots of these people. Now while we do get lots of WOW players who just will never have integrated into eve. Lots of "eve is like a job" kind of stuff. Setting that aside let me discuss what seems to be a barrier to entry.
Medical clones - being podded. Despite the great change of starting at at like 50,000 sp or so. The base is low enough that you need to mention the existence of clones because the topic might not come up in time. A 60mil char being podded at base clone like an idiot is hurt just as bad if the base were to be say 5mil. Sp loss from bad clones being reserved for more older characters would be best. Especially considering now the early characters train fairly quickly.
What ship should I train - RIFTER! There are TONS of ships and TONS of skills. OMG INFORMATION OVERLOAD. What skills do I need to then fly rifter? I dont have any idea. How about the ability to create corporation training skill packs. The corporation creates a sort of pack that pays for, injects, and sets an up to 30day training queue. The newb then cant change the training queue. Then after that 1 month training time. They are Rifter heros and dont have to think about doing the skill training part at all.
The idea being person joins game. They do the tutorials. Join the corp and really dont have to think about what they are doing and dont have to worry about that much.
Last but most important. Newb joins the game from big websites like Reddit(liberal hipster dating site) they do their tutorials and all that just fine. They finally join their respective corp that got them to join the game. They now are at war with a number of groups and the respective 0.0 alliance has no care at all about highsec. Newb undocks in jita and dies to wartargets they are completely oblivious to and instantly dies. They arent happy with the game at all at that point. Which then becomes the most popular reason why they quit. My suggestion is change wardec mechanics such that wardecing a sov alliance takes 50mil * # of sov systems that alliance holds. These alliances then would have to spend LOTS of isk/week in order to sit in jita all day killing ignorant newbs. I dont mind this change tbh because highsec wars are supposed about fighting over assets in highsec. Maybe 0.0 alliance does have highsec pos holding moons. This doesnt stop anyone from wardecing still; it also means going out to 0.0 and take out sov systems to make wardeccing them cheaper also works well.
It also means alliances in highsec might just go out to 0.0 to take some systems to deter people from wardecing them because the additional cost. 0.0 becomes more populous after this. ------------------------ To make a megathron from scratch, you must first invent the eve universe.

While I did suggest things. It's not really a feature and idea thread. It's a discussion as to what I find is causing newbros to quit eve. ------------------------ To make a megathron from scratch, you must first invent the eve universe.

No seriously. Take it to F&I. Why do so many people have problems using the forums as intended?

Upvote for the cost increase to deter mentally challenged alliances such as the Orphanage.

Moved from general discussion as this is more of an idea that should be discussed in this forum. I also removed trolling comments and replies to those comments.

When I first started, I did play as you say.
"Join the corp and really dont have to think about what they are doing and dont have to worry about that much."
Except for the first part. I didnt join a corp for about two or three weeks. All during that time I was in a mining frigate, and looking back on it, dead poor. But I was having fun, discovering eve at my own pace.
Then someone like yourself come along and offered help. Me not knowing better, I accepted. That person then told me everything about the game, and although I didn't realise it, they destroyed the enjoyment of discovery for me.
Eve is a hardcore game. It's one of the few hardcore games still around. That means that yes, a lot of the xbox using, psp toting, popcap playing casual gamers can't handle it.
I'm cool with that. But you are not helping the new players, you are destroying their experience. I'm not going to vote to make it easier for you to not help them. The Adelaide meet, be there! |

I agree with your way of looking at it, but I do think that a 5mil sp base clone is a good idea
