Sad but true; the game mechanics in EVE just aren't very favourable to NRDS. In other games it may work but here it's near to impossible.

What NRDS boils down to is the belief that you don't make as many friends if you open fire on everyone you come across.
Yet CVA got rolled by a large power block, with no significant allies in sight....
Guess the bad guys made more friend somehow...
And yet despite that, CVA are still around.
How are -A- doing these days?
Pretty well. Both -A- and CVA lost their space. CVA ninja'd some back whereas -A- have reconquered a chunk - more than twice as many systems as CVA - and are still campaigning. Oddly enough more of -A-'s friends stuck with them, the Stainwagon crowd.

NRDS is a way of gameplay that is more tolerent of other players and gives the game another edge. We are not short of reds to shoot thats for sure.
The diplomatic side of things needs to be very well organised though, works fine for us and we don't really see it as a disadvantage. Some will disagree with that but we don't aim to please all.

What I don't get is why not have limited NRDS to purely industrial pilots? Maybe on a fee basis. with it contingent on not using anything but a transport or barge/exhumer. Even with secure borders trade always is vital. That could just add so much.

Of course Stain guys stay in business since they live in NPC space. They did not have much to lose keeping -A- friendly either no matter what happened. That is the only place where relatively independent entities can live in 0.0. You try something else, you get rolled off the map at some point unless you ally yourself with half of eve and keep it that way.
As for CVA, reason their allies did not stay was probably due to wanting to be in 0.0 (although I have no idea why). This game has awfully lot of fools who think if they just have space everything will be fine and when they get rolled over they seem to lose their will to exist. We need more people in EVE who will fight for years even if they did not make any progress and keep growing stronger during that time.

Basically all the things that the internet is short on.
It is the last great challenge left in Eve.
QFT.
NRDS is alive and kicking in Great Wildlands, but GW is a very different place to Providence. To start with it only has 3 stations so most of it truely is 'wildlands', but also the NRDS entities living there (which includes Sanctuary) have a much more protective attitude to their intel channels and the like making it more difficult for unafilitated neutrals to benefit.
The upshot is that it's the kind of place where big BC gangs roam through because it's somewhere they know they can get a fight from the locals, but there is nowhere near the same richness and diversity of unafiliated neutrals and small time pirates that there was in Providence.
Which is something I'd like to change tbh, big BC blob combat is fun for a while but for me it doesn't have the lasting appeal of the smaller faster paced mixed gang combat.

NRDS is a sign of weakness, and a disease to be stamped out wherever it arises. This is official Goonswarm policy. Declare NRDS and see how long your alliance lasts. It's not piracy, its surprise PVP. |
