Quote: Current characters will have a grace period before having to commit to a new character avatar and portrait. During this grace period you can take your time before finalizing your new avatar and portrait to suit your tastes. Once this grace period is over all characters will be forced to create a new and updated character portrait and avatar during the login process. A final date for the end of this grace period will be announced.

Thank you ccp i have not used the creator on sisi so i was hoping for a good amount of time to get myself just right. But what will happen after this grace period, i take it will go back to fee's for changes. What about when incarna comes around? ------

Chances are that once the grace period has ended, you will not be able to login without creating a new portrait.
Changes will eventually be allowed in-game, though the details have not been revealed.
Relevant quote (which they really should put in a dev blog or something...)
Originally by: CCP Caedmon On the topic of more options, we really wanted to have tattoos out in this release but for various reasons we had to postpone them. Work is now underway to get tattoos as well as scars, piercings and more glasses in the game. In the next release we plan to introduce the option to re-customize your character from within the game to take advantage of all the new options. Expect to see more and more options coming in future releases. We have a lot of things we would love to see and we will be using feedback from this and other threads to help us make decisions on what we put in and when.

Once Incarna rolls around they will probably let you make as many cosmetic changes as you like. Your shape, bone structure, eye color, etc. will stay the same, but you can change hair color and style, add or remove tattoos, change clothing and other small changes.

You misunderstood. You still get only one chance to redo your face, but for a while you can decide not to do it, that's all. --

I am slightly confused here as well. What does the "grace period" actually mean? Is it as per the op understands it or this?
My initial understanding was we get one chance to redo our face over a period of time, so the "grace" refers to time and not to several tries over that time.
However given that CCP has stated that there are features that they will be adding later that did not make it in such as tatoos/scars, leads me to believe that "grace" means several tries over some time.

My understanding is you'll be able to futz with it without committing to a final portrait until the grace period is over. Not sure if you'll be able to save your progress, though.

Since the piercings and tattoos aren't being deployed this patch, it seems that the grace period would be quite a long time.

I am thankful for the grace period. I wanted to have a chance to play around with a few ideas before settling on a general look.

Edited by: Bhattran on 18/01/2011 04:11:48 The grace period 'should' be just to allow you to not commit to a 'sculpting' session whereby you create your avatar take your portrait pictures and set them all in order to access and play the game. Not a play with it make an avatar, set everything up ie 'accept your work' and then you can redo it everytime you login, or start work then save and comeback to it.
All those things would be great but none of them have been discussed by CCP as being possible or in this patch. The grace period was the 'answer' to the problem of not being able to play EVE *IF* they made you make your new avatar before letting you play the game which is problematic for people that care about their new avatar and trying to make it look good/cool/scary/etc.

I would certainly hope so. I'm not willing to begin anew without this characters tattoos and piercings. I'm sure anyone who plays Minmatar would agree with me that the tattoos and piercings are an integral part of the Minmatar look.
Losing both of that would mean basically losing being Minmatar Ehnea Mehk ODATRIK Integrated Solutions |
