CPP, what is going on with your mac team? Is this going to happen every time we install a new release?
I had a permanent black screen this time with the new, full download. Based on previous experience, I decided not to do the auto patch route, and I went straight to the full download. As I suspected, based on posts here, as usual, the patch failed for everyone else.
What I had to do to fix this was to, yet again, blow away my Preferences and let the EVE app create a new one.
Once I got in, I noticed in the settings that Antialias is permanently set to 'Disabled' again.

Disabled antialiasing is an expansion feature working as intended:
"Antialiasing is now disabled for Leopard users. This should help avoid reported client startup problems."
"should help" - "'Should' expresses a personal opinion"
'opinion' - "An opinion is a subjective statement or thought about an issue or topic [..] In casual use, the term opinion may refer to unsubstantiated information, in contrast to knowledge and fact-based beliefs."

It would seem like it could be an option that could be enabled, and some code put in place to fall back if something fails during the enabling. Cut out of the budget, I'm guessing?
It was clearly working for me. Just disabling it for all of those users smells of the typical shaft that Mac users get versus what those that use Windows get.
Alas, it's just antialising, I guess. Other frustrations still stand however; for example, knowing without a shred of doubt what will happen on the next patch day.
Edit: I am indeed thankful that the game even has a Mac version. Just please make it right so that we don't have to keep going through this. We're paying customers too.

àeven if you run 10.6, it seems you can't run AA and "Depth effects" at the same time. Enabling the latter removes all options for the former (and occasionally causes black screens for me). ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

The black screen seems to happen at random for me. I uninstalled/reinstalled EVE and it worked for a bit. I find that if I quit the game in full screen mode (COMMAND + ENTER to put the client into windowed mode if you didn't know) then I get a black screen and can't force quit the EV client, however, windowed mode is a work around for this.
My main problem when I start the client up I see the load screen, then it all goes black and there is nothing I can do. I gave the client 10 minutes to work it out itself, thinking it was a lag problem, but alas black screen still.
I understand that with any update/patch there are going to be some bugs so this is in no way a flame against CCP -- just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem and if they have found a work around for it yet.
Also, I know that some people are having problems with their equipment being older so I've posted my comp specs below:

Either you support Macintosh computers are you dont.
I tried to patch and all though it would complete your verification screen failed each time.
I downloaded the patch manually and it said some of my files had been changed and needed to reinstall the client.
That means I wont get to try the expansion till tomorrow after work considering how long it will take to download and install a new client.
Is this what you want? Do you want a growing sect of your player base to dread patch day or update day?
You've finally got the mac crowd were here to stay you cant kick us out like you did too the poor linux users.
Think about that. |

I downloaded the new patch, some 1.5 GB of it, but after installing it received the message: Some of the files have been modified! Please re-install.
What to do? Download the patch again; the full build? I would like to know given the non-trivial size of these downloads.

I had that when the last update came arround. I downloaded the full build again, and that did it for me.
