I'm pretty sure thats more than enough juice to run two clients of Eve. In fact, I know it is. I've been running two clients on dual monitor for as long as I've been playing. However, I experience occasional lag when I do this. Before I was able to fix this issue by ctrl+alt+del and then cancelling out. Now it happens more often, and the quick fix I always did doesn't really work anymore. I run both on the highest settings, and lowering the settings on one client does help, but if I could run both on high settings why not? I've searched the forums, and google, but I've come across no definitive remedy. I'd appreciate any helpful feedback you guys can give. |

I suffer from the same problem... before this patch I ran 2 clients on 2 monitors both running around 45 fps each. Now they both average about 27 fps and frequently drop to 5 fps each for several minutes. My system specs are the same more or less... i7-950, 6 gigs ram but I use the HD4850.
For yrs now CCP has seemed to been in bed with Nvidia and I have noticed that their patches over the last few yrs the support of AMD graphics have been lackluster at best. I guess they are trying to wear us down and give in to buy Nvidia products.

i too have noticed a large performance hit in game even with just one client running. i'm using a geforce 8800 GT so there goes your nvidia ati thing.
i also run dual monitors and run my clients in windowed mode so i can move them easily. previous to this patch i would get 180+ fps docked currently im getting 45 fps docked with only one client running. in space i see noticeable lag now and its very annoying :(

I changed from nvidia to AMD a few weeks ago. I was horrified by the performance (2x1080p screens).
I then discovered what the problem was, i like to listen to youtube in the background sometimes, unfortunately the AMD drivers detect that im playing a flash video and put the card into power saving mode EVEN THOUGH IM PLAYING 2 GAMES AT ONCE lol.
The way i fixed this and now have pretty damn good performance is by right clicking on any youtube vid, clicking 'settings', and unticking the 'hardware acceleration' box.
This prevents the AMD drivers from going into video playback power saving mode.
Though i think having windows media player open will still throttle the card into power saving, and if you have a logitech g15/19 for example, media player will always be open unless you disable slide-show in windows 7 control panel.
Shot in the dark, it might help.

update on my performance issues.
windowed mode of any form is what has taken a massive performance hit for me. going full screen mode on one monitor sends my framerates through the roof as they used to be on my 8800GT

Argh..this is really frustrating. I'll get awesome performance, and then all of a sudden I'll get hit with major lag.
Bump for a remedy!

I always have my task manager up. I've also optimized my processes to reduce background processing (ie: no torrents, no autoupdating, no virus scanning, etc while playing eve). - Vhan |

Edited by: Kirikarasu on 20/01/2011 05:32:17 Eve currently seems to have a memory leak in the PI interface or something else. 2GB is not that much ram now days might want to buy another stick or 2. Not saying that is the problem, but it might help.

I run a significantly older system than the OP with a newer video card and do not have problems with performance to any sort of level that has been noticable visually in the game. I did notice that there is a significant increase in CPU usage now compared to before the patch but my computer seems to be able to handle it ok. I am not trying to brag about some leet system, just want to point out that I don't think the OP's computer specs regarding performance are the probelem. In the help channel in game I did notice a couple people with AMD/ATI video cards that were having some issues.
My spec: E8500 Core 2 Duo @3.2GHz 4GB DDR 2 @ 800MHz GTX460 (EVGA) SuperClocked (Factory)

Couple of suggestions: Try using evemon and auto adjust window For client, check your advance settings and test with interval immediate setting Third, run each client from separate folders Disable your AV from scanning the eve process and it's folders For cards with heat issues try cranking the fans to max
Try some of those ideas.
Best of luck

Thanks for all the replies. I'm off to bed now, but I'll def have to test it out tomorrow. As for RAM, I was reading off of my invoice. I have 3sticks of RAM making a total of 6GB.

I tried each, one by one, and then all together. Evemon introduced more lag with the auto adjust. Interval settings didn't work. Created separate junction for second client and that didn't work. Added CCP folder to my exclusions list for my AV and that didn't work. Have no issues with with card overheating. Now when I lower settings lag is still there, both with the fixed and default settings.
I'm almost positive it all has to do with my graphics card not wanting to run two clients when it certainly can...does that make sense? I'll have to go browse/create a thread(s) on the ATI forums. If I find an answer I will post here. In the mean time, more feedback and possible solutions are greatly appreciated.

Graphics lag became less for me with this patch, especially on one PC with an NVidia 8600GT, but when running dual monitors I lag as before.
On my gaming rig with a GTX460 with this new patch the interface sits right in the middle of the two monitors, no matter if I enable the offset interface option.

We have a winner! I changed from a HD5750 to a GTS 450 for the same reasons. Plus the AMD card lagged badly in dustclouds in EvE. And the dualscreen performance, idle modes not working etc. Best thing I did was dumping that AMD crap. Card might be good, but drivers utterly destroys it.

only at 5 clients do i get an fps drop and tbh its mild maybe down to 55fps. 6 is a little worse.

CPU - i7 920 @ 3.6Ghz RAM - 12GB DDR3 GFX - Sapphire Radeon 5870 Toxic 2GB
There are two problems:
1) I've bug-reported the YouTube / Flash problems several weeks ago - the bug affects mostly Eyefinity setups and a new "Defect" has been registered, so CCP or AMD will fix the problem sooner or later.
2) With the current TQ build, if you run even 1 x EVE client in 2 x 1920x1200 (3840x1200), after some time I can't just go to desktop (Ctrl+ESC / Alt-Tab). I get blank screen, then I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del and then ESC. Unfortunately if I try to run 2 x EVE Clients there is severe lag when Alt-Tabbing or if I try to go to desktop. After several attempts the PC crashes.
Strangely enough, I don't have the same issue with the SiSi Client, despite the fact it carries the same build #...

Very similar to my GPU(GF 8800 GTS) and since the new patch been getting the blue screen of death only with this game. Not immediately, but after random amounts of time in-game. I set my settings on high for the character creation, but lowered them back down immediately after and still have problems. Performance in-game isn't an issue per-se, just the random blue-screens which **** me off. Not had this problem before or with any other game.

What this guy said. You need to tell the client which screen it's being rendered on. ---

Thanks, but no go.
Everytime I set the display options it switches over to my main. I drag it over but still get lag. Regretting the ATI(if in fact it is the case).

yeh it will always reset to the main monitor. make sure its not over hanging the mid point between the 2 moniters. that can lead to a massive fps hit. ive not had an issue with my ati cards apart from figuring the above 2 points out. ive ran them in 1080p but that looks a bit crapy on my screens so i set tehm to the higher res that my moniters run in

I haven't had a problem at all going dual screen(2x1080p) with my MSI GTX470 Twin Frozr II card since the patch. Everything runs at least 60 FPS. I don't think its the graphics card for the fail, its the game. Only negative thing I noticed since patch would be...missions not working properly. What is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right. |

Win 7 Ult. 64-bit AMD 965BE Quad core 3.4Ghz 8 GB DDR3 ATI HD 4890 X2 crossfire mode. (total 2GB GDDR5) I run dual clients on a single box on a single screen. So I have 2 clients running simultaneously in windowed mode. Now windowed mode does not detect / utilize the 2nd GPU, so running dual clients maxed out will get me between 30-60fps. Really depends on what I'm doing. If I'm in station / PI or just flying around, I'm relatively stable at 60fps on both windows. If I'm in a high density belt or 100's of ships the fps drops pretty heavy. (~20-34 fps)
However if I full screen both clients, the crossfire picks up the load and I have a 30-50% increase in fps. (40+ in high density areas)
Part of the problem is windows desktop not utilizing crossfire and I'll constantly be at 80%+ on the primary card. **** So for ATI users out there go into CCC >> ATI OVERDRIVE and make sure you got manual fan override at 100%. **** The other part is the AA, which is expected. MOAR processing = less fps. Suppose less on the eye candy overkill would increase fps in desktop mode. Generally it does fine.
Also since the latest patch 1.1.0, when I ALT-TAB out of FS, my desktop gamma is significantly lower.
Just throwing my experience out there.

Exactly the same problem.
Running one client = fine.
Running more than one client and performance sucks ass.
I used to be able to run 3 clients on my old laptop, now I can't even run 2 clients on my new laptop!
CCP, either fix this or I will not pay for 3 accounts as I can now only play on one at a time!
With every new feature, this game sucks more and more...
