I used to be able to run three clients at max settings. Now I can only run 2 at minimum settings. I get lag even then. My system isn't top of the line, maybe upper mid range.
Stll running XP pro though I plan to upgrade to Windows 7 within the next few months if I can come up with the cash (tight budget). GT9500 500mb PCIe2 vid card, 3 gigs ram, AMD 5000+ processor.
Eventually I am going to upgrade the vid card to a 1 gig GTS450, an add an additional 3 gigs of ram.
Not a rich person so I tend to lag behind by a year or so with upgrades. Even still though, my system performance has taken a massive dive playing eve. It's disappointing. -

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I know this is probably my 6th response on my own post, and might be bordering the troll line, but I'm trying to get as much feed back as possible.
EvilPhD, is the 100% fan overdrive really necessary on my card? HD6850 1GB. I took your advice on the AA and set one of my clients to 2x. Doesn't seem to make much of a difference graphics wise, and works great. However, so did all the other quick fixes I've found. Hopefully this one will stick. Thanks for the advice.

I'll preface this by saying I really haven't had much time to play since the 2nd Incursion patch, but sometime between the first and second release is when I started to notice serious lag with 2 clients on separate monitors.
CPU - Core2Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz RAM - 4GB DDR2 800 GFX - 8800 GTS 640MB
Disabling AA definitely helped some, but not so much that things run smooth. I just bought a GTX580 1.5GB card, so once I get it installed and get the game up and running, I'll try to post back.

And that is the problem in a nutshell.
WTF is up with the fps? I get ******ed lag SYSTEMWISE, not just in Eve by running 2x Eve instances. Heck, right now I even get it running just ONE instance. I get an abysmal fps of down to 10 fps if I wait long enough, heck, I've even seen 8 fps (with ONE client running!)
8 GB RAM, I5-Core 2.57 GHz, Nvidia NVS3100M, all settings at minimum.
Eve is unplayable as it is right now. Take away the ******ed new avatars and bring back the old gfx engine or whatever it is that is causing the systemwide lag.

im guessing you all have dual cores, try setting affinity for both clients to use separate CPUs, maybe windows does poor job chopping processing power of single threaded EVE client between cores and that makes the game go blah

If I have one client running and have interval 1 set (ie. max 60 fps) everything is fine.
If I set the client to interval immediate (max fps) I get the stutter in fps as shown in above screenshot and *systemwide* lag, but not all the time in station, but all the time when I undock.
Someone **** CCP Q&A please, releasing this pile of crap to paying customers is offensive.

I seem to have an issue when im in a large fleet 150+, my processor thrashes its self at 100% usage and then the screen locks up and then the game continues, locks up again etc. This all happens in about 20 seconds. I also had no problems before the latest patch.Im running: Core2Duo 2.4 E6600 4GB Ram XFX 9800GTX+ Windows 7 64bit

Eve Windowed, 2 clients: Station with both, 85% GPU usage. Undocked with both, 65-70% GPU usage.
CPU usage insignificant.
EDIT: No problems. Unless I start a 3rd client. Btw, beware that EvE with high settings etc uses MORE graphics memory. 2 Clients here use 945MB with 2xAA. IN short, lower graphics detail. I bet you are memory limited graphics wise.
Removing shadows, resource cache, HDR and depth effects loweres memory usage in space to 597MB with 2 clients and 2xAA. And GPU load now down to 35-40%. And a 3rd client still runs flawless. --------------------------------------

Seems like a lot more radeon cars is affected by this, than nvidia. coincidence?
* edit, yes, eve is running at max graphic settings + AA 8x still, I don't understand why this huge performance downgrade since incursion.
I had no problems with two eve clients at 3840x1080 with same settings before

Here are some possible fixes if you have a 3850 or higher ATI card. If you are more than a intermediate user of video cards you should know all this already. Part of the stuttering problems seem to stem from the anti-aliasing types that the client lets you use. I for instance get no option to use the Box or NarrowTent algorythms which use the least amount of videocard power and turning AA on outside of the game yeilds much better FPS.
The directions in Orange are optional The directions in Green are optional and should be done only if you get no performance boosts from the other directions.
- Download and install AMD Fusion and then start "Gaming Online" mode
- Turn Anti-Aliasing off ingame
- Set Interval to Immediate
- Manually assign your client's display adapter to each screen (ie. Ati Radeon XXXX series 1, Ati Radeon XXX series 2)
- Load Catalyst Control Center and go to the Anti Aliasing screen.
- Untick "Use Application Settings"
- Set your Anti-Aliasing mode to Box or Narrow-tent (The other AA algorythms yeild good results but for too much cost) to a minimum of 2x, trial higher levels after you've done everything else on this list if performance increases.
- Set Anti-Aliasing quality to supersampling if you have the option
- Antistropic filtering should be set at 16x unless your card is extremely old
- Turn off Vertical Sync off
- Set MipMap Quality to Medium or Low

- Set MipMap Quality to Medium or Low
Turn Anti-Aliasing off ingame
this had a small effect on the frame rate, but not nearly what I had before incursion. One client at 1920x180 with max settings works "ok", anything higher drains the gpu insanely.
Still have no idea how to improve the performance without reducing anything visual to what it used to be.

I run one client but feel significant drop down of fps like 50 to 20 when missioning. I guess CCP screw up something again. BTW I use 4870 card and I think if CCP ask user to tune the setting it's all CCP's fault.

I'm wondering if some of you guys when dual screening are running a browser with some sort of flash oriented content loaded. This puts your flash driver in hardware accelerated mode which will kill your fps when running two clients on two screens especially on ati cards.

Edited by: Gwendion on 01/02/2011 07:53:00 ****** This is the fix ******
If you are using two monitors, run both clients, go into the Escape menu. There is a option called "Display Adapter".
There are two (or more, depending on the card) options that look like this:
Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1 Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 2 (There will be more options for each Card/Monitor enabled if you have them)
Set each client to the proper output. (You can tell when its the right adapter when the lag goes away) Each client should be on a different adapter.
If you run your clients from the same directory, you'll have to set this every time you login. If not, it will save.
That should fix it.
Edit: If you don't have a really strong video card, I'd also recommend turning off HDR (HUGE performance hog) Anti-aliasing to off (if using nvidia, turn it off in the nvidia control panel too) and everything to low to further increase performance.

As much as I hate to admit it, as I'm a huge fan of AMD/ATI, the problem lies with the ATI drivers.
I recently upgraded my ATI card drivers to CCC 10.12 and got the same issues as you. (BTW latest driver version is 11.1 date:1/26/2011)
Till I upgraded I used CCC 9.3 as the versions after that was crashing my BOING app.
Same performance issues are reported also in Darkfall Online (for those who know that MMO) and seems that MMO game devs prefer to optimize their games for nVidia cards (see support for PhysX).

As you say, this looks like a driver problem with ATI.
Even running one client scaled over 2-3 monitors makes fps drop down below 10, where it used to 60 before incursion and catalyst 10.12.
Really hope to see a fix for this sooner or later.

I switched back to AMD recently from nvidia for my eyefinity setup and I'm beginning to wish I hadn't. They STILL haven't addressed there $&^%$ poor drivers yet. Having problems with about 4 games atm.

Edited by: Mutnin on 01/02/2011 13:05:00 Not sure if it's the latest patch or what but I have been noticing "freeze ups" on my clients quite often lately. What is odd, is having 2 or even 3 clients open at once and often it will just be one client that lags out while the others are working fine.
I've tried deleting my cache but that didn't seem to help. Seems the freeze ups happen most often around gates, typically while jumping through one system to another. (correct me if I'm wrong but I could of swore we had this exact same issue a year or so ago)
A patch or two back I was getting some serious lag spikes with this, to the point, the client actually thought I had lost server connection and I'd find myself in an emergency warp as if I disconnected. (granted haven't seen this issues in a few weeks but the lag freezes still remain)
Another issue I've noticed since they redid the UI, is that it doesn't seem to update in real time. I've had various laggy UI bugs since they reworked it.
Last week my OV was showing that I was still red boxed and scramed by a target despite having him sensor damped to the point he didn't actually have lock on me and I wasn't actuality scrammed.
Another issue is with over heating and UI lag. This has happened a few times now but most recently just yesterday and I lost my ship because of it. I've been using heat in fight for quite some time and I know when to cut it off, yet I've had various mods burn out lately while the UI was showing around 60% heat damage. Yesterday I burnt out a full rack of launchers with the UI showing me at 60% damage.

Had this issue running two clients in fixed window mode. I changed the windows theme to basic and two clients' FPS max out again above 100. All clients set to maximum graphics, no change to eve settings required. Hope this helps some of you.

Before incursion I could run up to 4 clients on one screen without major fps loss (still went smoothly), now 2 clients work nice, but launching the third causes the fps rate to drop to like 3 fps.
I got an amd proc, 4 cores, each 2.4ghz, 4gb 1333mhz of RAM and a hd4850 1gb :/ And a 64bit win 7
