Quote: But that's not a valid argument for all the people who started playing after the attributes were equalized and who solely picked their race and bloodline for the looks.
That completely negates the original argument however.

imo, Vherokior had native american look. a bit of tweak to the eyes and lips would ease a lot, especially female.
other bloodlines are more or less fine, except maybe Amarr and Khanid male. solution here could be making aging slider actually mean something.
most other races suffer from lack of accessories, which is easiest to fix. ________________________________ : Forum Bore 'Em : Foamy The Squirrel - [jedi handwave] "There is no spoon." |

That doesn't mean an idea can be right - for the wrong reasons! I just added better reasons.

Yeah, I don't like the new look at all.
Also, is it just me or do you have to be Caldari to be able to wear a black leather jacket that actually has sleeves? Aside from some of the Amarr robes, racial restrictions on clothing makes little sense.

There seem to be a lot of people complaining that the new character creation system is 'too limited' or that CCP took options away in implementing the new art style.
What all of these people seem to be forgetting is that this new character creation system is merely a precursor to Incarna, and that there will more than likely be avenues for further character customization (clothing, tattoos, etc.) once that content is released.
So like, chill out everybody.

Edited by: Shander Maxum on 20/01/2011 22:08:50 after about 20 hours or more making characters in other races and experimenting with the Jin Mei, I gained the skills and the knowledge of the program to come up with something not so bad.
I couldnt' without all the experience and seeing what other people were beginning to do with other races.
My avatar isn't really creative or anything, but he looks pretty much like me ... altered a bit to be a bit more naricisstic and materialistic than I am..which is how I sort of envisioned him. The sun glasses help to avoid seeing part of area aroun the eyes that still is too eastern asian for me, but he's not a disater without them either.
Still, given that I could mad a good, almost surfer dude-white guy with a Brutor and its pretty impossible to tell the bloodlines apart on the forums (other than a guy with dredlocks and african features that are pretty hard to do outside brutor) there really isn't any purpose to restrict the choices, I agree completely.
Like you've said, you selected based on different choices, on top of the general replaceablity between races for anyone white.
Its going to be the clothing and the accessories that set the factions apart ...
(p.s. the thumb nail is worse than the bigger picture I'll see when I log in and in game...its really what I see that affects me, not what others will see)

20 hours?
I used ~10 min on my 2 chars, not having played with the creator on SiSi before hand...just after I got up....before breakfast and even before my morning ***.
I would never use 20 hours on an avatar ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fact of EVE forums: They will always come an anounomys alt-toon and question someones character... |

What's wrong with Jin-Mei? I could understand Vherokior whine because new eyes are way too narrow, imo... but I hardly see any other (major) isues with how everyone else looks look (yes, some bloodlines are different from "original", but still look good eough if you care to spend some time tewaking it to your liking). |

Although I'm not in favour of this, I can understand how the increased importance of avatars with incarna makes some people want to change what they have chosen a couple of years ago.
That said, CCP is already considering gender/race/bloodline changes, which *might* be implemented in future expansions.
Quote: Will I be able to change race, bloodline or gender on existing chars? If you already have a character for which you need to redo your portrait, you have to do it within your current race, bloodline and gender. Itęs not impossible to think that in the future you may clone jump into bodies (clones) of different races, bloodlines and even genders, but that function will not be available on Incursion launch.
Linkage
Stop making threads about it already.

Not that hard. Use 5 min to make a face/body that dosn't look "weird". use 5 min then alter the expression and done.
Where most people fail is they make the char TOO picture perfect (eg. plastique skin) and don't know anything about micro expressions. E.g. a genuine smiles requires raising the eyebrowns and raing the cheekbone muscles(amongst other things)
This is 10 mins worth of work too: http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/5231/terraej.jpg
You don't need to show of 100% af the face..or even the body. It's all about microexpressions and imperfections. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fact of EVE forums: They will always come an anounomys alt-toon and question someones character... |

Really?
20 hours?
Thats the point.
I did a few far better characters in 10 minutes... one that still cracks me up every time I look at it and makes me like that guy i'm training for carrier that I considered getting rid of a month ago because of it.
Thats why I thin the OP (and me too) really are are p.o'd about the new jin mei options.
Please point me to a few good Jin Mei that don't look chinese or korean... I didn't chose one of those when I made him...and it doesnt' fit the name or the persona, or myself... I've got an asian alt...I use him selectively and don't have problem with that.. but he's not my focus in the game.. he's more a employee or contractor or business partner .
It definitely sounds like many people don't identify with the picture they see of themselves when they log on or are playing. But I do, and it sound like many others do to.
I spend all my time on team speak and in fleets as this guy... I want to feel a real affinity with the guy i'm playing... If it was a girl (and I don't have any) I guess I could get by with good looking ... at least I'd like her and want to get inside her ; ) !

You guys are overlooking the bigger picture. These characters we are being forced to live with (unless you want to reroll like me) are not just portraits, they will have far more impact on the game than simply being a face in local. So being able to redesign your race and bloodline choices may have some validation when the original concepts are so different from what we are using now.

For me its not what other people see but what I see ... I sort of put on the guys clothes when I log in ... I don't spend alot of time thinking about it in a spaceship way, but I feel I am a member of my corp, not that I'm pretending to be a character who's in the corp, I am the character in the corp. .. we all talk about what space ship we're flying.. we dont' say. My character is flying the space ship.
When I log into a station trader, I think more like, " what's this guy (the character) going to do for me today."
