Miners are at a big disadvantage when it comes to otter players "flipping the can". or in otter words provokes the miner, so they can BLOW him up. Here comes my suggestion; why not have at least one item that can make the smugpiratwanabe think at least once before doing this act? Booby-trap the cargo container i space! Or have a bomb look like a cargo container.. The point being: When The player tries to flip or steal from the container it goes of in his face. NUKE!! It can be expensive, that ok, the feeling of a little pay back will be worth it!!!! A poor defenseless miner will at least have a card up there sleeve, to make the pirate player less eager to steel there hard urned isk!!" PLEAS make this ide real!! I do not care who gets the credit, as long as I have a item like tis!!

This would be that cargo container that you jettisoned?

Alternative use for it:
Jettison it somewhere and tractorbeam it around in a T1 frigate.
Once another frig aggroes you and gets within range, you open your own container. BOOM. headshot. ---

Not going to happen.
CCP already tried mines back at the start of the game (check the old DB dumps), but they just break too many things. This bomb idea is not really any different.
You also run into the problem of the damage it does. Enough to counter BC/BS's will mean it pops cruisers and under, go the other way and people will just ignore it. --------------------------------- Go Web! Go! |

its a good idea, but it shouldn't be a bomb
SOLUTION: A cargo container when opened by ANYONE that is NOT the owner or in the fleet, They DO NOT receive damage from opening it, if scanned it displays some random common ore
Resolution Apon opening it without permission, the 'can' is destroyed and it gives the person who opened it a global criminal count down and a minor drop in security status, A punishment more fitting then simply blowing up and dealing damage
a person with permission when opening it, nothing happens, no cargo container display, it can only be scooped up by a person who owns it.

well the smart pirate/thief will have a way to tell if it's a bomb/mine or cargo, if they can hack they will have a way to tell, think about it

TX everyone. Interesting input from you all! I know booms in real life can be directional. In that the charge goes of in a specifies direction and not out to all sides. It does not to be foolproof, in that on can hake or scan it. There needs to be danger in the game. BUT this would be a lesson to new pirate punks. I liked the ide of them getting taged as criminal, but do they care? Most things cane be miss used, or used in ways they where not intended.. Nuclear power vs the Nuk bomb. And mines from old time? hm. I think the rules for cargo containers apply, can just take about 1 hour in space. And as power goes, as long as frigates get blown up, I like it. Bigger ship can just get a bloody nose.

If I get blown up by a smart one, it is partly my own fault? O at least I got beat by a "better" player..but being harasst by new punks, just aint fun. In real life I think defenseless miners had demanded a way to defend them selfs..and if they diden get they would make there own home made traps. Like old wild west tinking, I am on my own against the wolfs and greedy "Whitman". think therefor that this type of "gismo", is a thing that would exist. I would hawe one

They should just make bombs that are really huge and you have to tractor around, but are tarrible large BBQs. Industrials drop them and brave suicide bombers tractor them to the enemy.
I like this because it makes combat industrials almost real and lets people bring mass death with NOCTIS.

I will play along.
Lets say CCP thought your idea was great! They actually implement it and release it to Tranquility! Sweet!
Now you're mining away you spot a pirate, one that has can flipped you before. You dump your can, they go to open it! There is an item inside! Sweet! They decide to STEAL it but use an alt to set off the trap, the trap is diffused their alt dies and they still take and flip your can.... oops. No more bomb, you still lose your stuff and everything resumes as usual.

Make them AOE damage when opened OR destroyed, makes things more risky for both parties. Also a massive bomb-can cloud on a gate would be pretty amusing way to 'catch' those annoying cloaky/nullified T3s. Target jumps in, shoot one bomb-can, CHAIN REACTION!!!, profit?
Wont happen tho.

TX for the input! I would not be sad loosing the ore, as long as "he/she" blows up. It would be satisfaction . My main idea is that pirate would run a risk, but as it is now..they run null(0) risk. And I an all otter miners are always the risk taker, jut by mining our own business(you goth that bobble meaning I hope "mining"). Sorry am a bit sleepy, then the bad humor comes out . A addition to the idea, I mention earlier, a directional blast, toward the opening party (claymore and otter mines/bombs do this in real life). I also see this as not being unbeatable (may be harked or scanned), but at wearying difficulty. All thin in the spirit of "for every measure there is a counter measure". THE POINT again, the pirates NEED to have some risk to.. and I like to BLOW them up

I would like to ad: The trap could be unstable when sett. In this I mean that if mowed it goes of to. If one mows a armed bomb it must at least be more unstable. The skill to make it could also me pleased under industrial or something like this?(I do not agree whit my self here, just dropping it out there). the cargo container could also be a decoy, and not contain ore at all.. So I drop 2 containers, 1 real and one decoy-bomb. Maybe have a decoy drop "tingy"..nah... A unmovable(It blows up if mowed) trap/decoy, capable of blowing up frigate ships, and making bigger bloody-nosed. + directional blast. That Is the dear so fare. I am open for input in this development . The "spirit" of the cargo bomb as I see it is a counter measure for pirates stealing/harassing defenses miners. Any otter idea to do this will be applauded by me!

Em, yeas Why the word-verb deskrption? A cargo container I at least use If I do not have room, and want to min more. OR I have anotter friendly ship come and colekt it. Was that an asver to you? (thes can be flipped/stolen by otter unfrindly players, and here is the senter of my fokus here) |

Wow. This was an EXELENT idear!! Where was this trap when I needed it las time I lost 3 ships to does B^ż . And I like the basik "spirtit" you have behind the trap. Kepping it to us "por" miners, and not making it missused by otters. I hope the eq will come in the game as fast as possible! This Idea mad me smile to day..and think of the pirat going down in flames..and my drones killing his pod!!! What a wonderfull image, TX Erlighet!! |

Edited by: Funesta on 23/01/2011 22:09:09 I'd rather that they just made larger secure containers.
Secure containers already fulfill pretty much all your desires. They can be blown up by the PVP-type player with considerable effort and time, but in high sec Concord will defend the containers. They keep your ore from getting stolen.
The only problem with existing secure containers is that mining barges fill up the largest containers in a trivial amount of time. Make bigger secure containers, maybe in sizes that are comparable to jetcans (27,000 m3) instead of in existing puny sizes (3,900 m3).
Alternatively, ease up the restrictions on placing secure containers near each other in space. If they could be closer together than the current restrictions allow, then they might be a decent option for mining. I wouldn't mind having to anchor dozens of little containers in a belt if I didn't have to put so much effort into finding viable spots to anchor them.
