When I've run this mission a couple of times the BS's have been Machs, but their DPS seems to have been scaled down since they didn't do massive damage to the ship I was using (Stabber Fleet Issue I think).
You can blitz it but the bounties for the BS's are ok for Level 2...

Originally by: Cofalib It seems a lot of these new mission they put in are not really "scaled" correctly at L2. It seems that CCP has forgotten that 400-500k SP pilots are trying to do these missions, and in many many different set ups. I personally wouldn't mind the difficulty of a lot of these missions at L3+, but L1 & L2's really should be for the newbie, allowing them to build up some money(at a terrible rate) and some LP.
The 5 day old newbie who just got into his terribly bad fitted cruiser gets 4 cruisers and a BS droped on him? Or like in Mission of Mercy, you get 6 frigs and 8 cruisers drop ontop of you. What if your cruiser is Blaster fitted? You can't kite this, can't outrange this stuff...
I'm having a blast with this game, and I'm quite new. Only been playing about 45 days? I started my first 3 weeks doing industry stuff, got bored so I decided to start PvE missions. Much more fun but only have about 20days time of training for combat.
Anyways, I finished the SoE arc, started some level 2 missions and man are they hard. I lost two cruisers doing the mission you mentioned and have come very close a number of times to losing a ship. It's down right discouraging to be honest because level 1's are sooo easy, but stepping into Level 2's are really difficult. If level 2's are than much harder than level 1's, I'm almost scared to even think about the shock I'll receive again once I move from level 2's to 3's.

Mission of Mercy is one of the hardest, if not THE hardest L2 out there. With some decent shield skills you can solo it in a well-fit Caracal without having to warp out, but it is still very difficult. It was my very first L2, and after 2 close calls and 5 warp-outs, I was pretty discouraged, but most L2s are much, much easier.

Edited by: Tao Teh on 19/07/2011 01:15:24 Edited by: Tao Teh on 19/07/2011 01:14:17 Im on this mission right now.
warping in and warping out does not work!!!
I just tried it with a shuttle. I deliberately took a shuttle to test this theory and so I wouldnt lose much if these battleships where there that everyone keeps mentioning.
when you first arrive you'll receive damage from the worm hole. I sat and waited for the green 'mission done' - it never came, so I approached the oberon. as I got close, all ships blew up including my shuttle. then four frigs spawn. the damage didnt come from these frigs, it came from the worm hole
Im now about to go back with a cruiser and pick up the scientist. ----------------------------------------------- As for the Tao, the Tao that can be spoken of is not the constant Tao...

Just drew this mission for the first time (L2); confirming I don't think you're meant to kill the baddies in this one! ;-) I was swarmed VERY quickly after the kaboom!!

finished one lvl2 "dead drift" today morning. Just warped into area, got some damage from cloud and got message "mission completed".
rewarped into area once again: still no ships except "Caldari mission frigate"

I easily killed everything in a passively tanked Jaguar and never came close to losing more than half my shield.

to do this mission you would need to get to that cargo as quick as you can and then leave...
That's the general idea!
If you've let everything spawn, then wait until after DT to go back. --

I'd recommend for any new players to warp out asap as the mission is complete, but if you want some nice loot, find a way to kill them, I easily make 6 million of this mission. Not bad for a level two.

Passive tank w/ active hardeners, what?
Passive tank means you're increasing the shields resists and recharge rate, instead of using a shield booster. You still use active hardeners.
