the lvl 2 mission "dead drift" seems insanely difficult compared to others i've tried. you are ambushed by approx 8 merc frigates, 4 merc cruisers and a merc battleship, with a spider drone to pull your speed down to 10%. its deadspace so no mwd.the mercs even hang out right where the accleration gate lands you so you can't approach from range.
the reward? 30k with 30k bonus
the mission isnt listed anywhere i can find online, but no other lvl 2 missions seem remotely so hard. or is this actually normal for lvl 2?

Just so you know MWDs have been quietly enabled in most missions Linkage
I havn't run this mission so I cant give you any advice other than to try the MWD.

if so that would make a huge difference against all the missiles, thx will try.
must be a new mission hence the crazy reward - still, from looking at other mission logs on evelopedia the opponents seem out of proportion with other lvl 2 missions which might have a handful of frigs and a cruiser. ah well if i beat it with my 400k skill points and low tech stabber i'll be pleased

What's the objective of the mission? Sometimes low level missions have strong enemies that you aren't really intended to fight.
Oh yeah, about my sig... you have now read it.

Edited by: Keres Anaplekte on 21/01/2011 05:12:53 It's not that hard; you get close to the drifting ship and it gets blown up. (I didn't see a spawn till I got fairly close to the drifting ship) Warp your tail out and collect the reward.
Close to a mill in bounties tho if you stay and kill all the spawns (which are staggered) plus considerable salvage...I think there were a total of 3 BS, which ain't bad for a Lvl 2.

It seems a lot of these new mission they put in are not really "scaled" correctly at L2. It seems that CCP has forgotten that 400-500k SP pilots are trying to do these missions, and in many many different set ups. I personally wouldn't mind the difficulty of a lot of these missions at L3+, but L1 & L2's really should be for the newbie, allowing them to build up some money(at a terrible rate) and some LP.
The 5 day old newbie who just got into his terribly bad fitted cruiser gets 4 cruisers and a BS droped on him? Or like in Mission of Mercy, you get 6 frigs and 8 cruisers drop ontop of you. What if your cruiser is Blaster fitted? You can't kite this, can't outrange this stuff...

Im thinking the same...
There is several hard missions to fight, but that isnt the objective.
Like for example the scouting missions (the ones which come in series of 3). In L2 mission there are 3-4 elite BCs which shoot half of your cruisers EHP in 2-3 shots plus they perma ECM you. And they spawn one after another. But all u have to do is make it to acc gate and run - mission done ;) If you let them spawn - you cant complete the mission because they basically insta pop you if theres 5 of them on the gate.

Million total bounty with 3 BS in there? Hmm. Wierd. Are you 100% sure those are BS and not haulers / industrials, which show as large + sign in overview as well as BS...

The BS is there so you CAN'T fight. No cruiser with 500k sp will kill a battleship in a level 2 mission, you won't break it's tank.

Yeah, that mission took me by surprise, too.
All you have to do is to approach the damaged ship, which is a Large Collidable Structure iirc, and loot the container it spawns when it explodes. The hostile ships spawn immediately and open fire. Get out of there quickly and ignore the neutral ship. I think the violent wormhole also has a nasty aoe damage when you get to close.
The design of the mission is a bit hap-hazard, yeah. It will probably be the grave of many new players. The ships nearly obliterated my destroyer before I even realized what was going on.

Dependsà what does the mission briefing say?
I think it's rather positive that they're adding in more Recon/Ambush-style missions where the objective is to get away, not just to plod through and nuke everything in sight. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

No, but some frigs will . Still the point is that killing the BS isn't part of the mission. It's there to teach you to read the objective.

No one in the mission does it state to go in, and get out. It says to go and help the ship. A ship that is about to be destroyed, most of the time "helping it" is killing the stuff around it. Not going to it, letting it blow up, and looting it.
What the agent TELLS you to do, is exactly NOT what you do.
Right, it's there to teach you to read the objective, and I guess ignore it eh?

It doesn't explode until you get very close to it. Otherwise it just floats around.

This topic reminds me of when I first got Human Cattle 5/5 while grinding Gallente standing. I was so surprised that a level 2 mission had a room with 15 or so battleships in it that I immediately ran out, got my dominix, lost 10-20 drones, and proceeded to have a ball killing off all of them.
I know I wouldn't have been able to do it had I done the missions with a more appropriate character, but damned was it fun to blow away over a dozen battleships in a level 2 mission.

Yeah, you're not supposed to fight. Once the ship you're supposed to help is destroyed, the journal entry changes to "Objectives Complete," and you're supposed to get out of there. It's not very well worded, it just seems like that's supposed to be a twist to the mission.

How about "mission of mercy" then? objective free the med drone and provide access for repair crew - ie kill all the mercs. 1 cruiser + 4 frigates on warp in. Another 4 cruisers and 4 elite frigate spawn as soon as you do anything, then another 2 cruisers and 4 elite frigates 30 seconds after that. Required my main in a passive tanked drake (HAM fitted with a painter and active hardners only) to do this and even then I had warp once to regen my shields. And with bounties at 700k this is a L3 mission not L2

I've done this mission a few times now, and the objective is stated as "A foundering ship's crew is in danger." This is far from specific.
When you arrive at the mission site, there will be an "Oberon" and a "Splendor". Although these ships may change race from mission to mission, their name remains the same.
When you arrive, You should first travel to the Oberon, which will be destroyed when you get within a certain range of it, dropping a cargo container containing Scienctists. These need to be delivered to the Splendor. The difficulty comes in the staggered Mercenary spawns, which do indeed spawn several BS along with Elite CRs and Fs, and a single webifying drone. You don't need to fight them, just deliver the scientists, which would be simple if it weren't for the drone with roughly 3k hp which webs you. If you can manage to kill it before the BSs spawn, then you should be able to run to the Splendor, deliver the scientists and either try to fight or just run.
I think the later spawns may be triggered by destroying the first wave of ships, so I'd advise only destroying the Spider webifying drone until you've delivered the scientists to the Splendor.

Having just done or should I say still doing (I'm collecting & salvaging the wreckage as I type this)
It is nails compared to the other missions at this level. Your right it is 3 BS + about 8 mix of C & BC & 10 frigs, they have scram & are on you in a flash. You will get a lot of bounty as the BS's are 250k each & you get a lot of valuable loot. I had to make a 3 trips to carry it all.
I did it in a myrmidon & really struggled it was down to the wire a couple of times. but I wasn't prepared as I was expecting to rep the ship & I was not expecting the bad ass ambush. but on the plus side I did do it & I only lost one drone.
You can just run away & maybe that's what's intended however if you do stick it out & survive you will find amongst the carnage the 5 scientists that you're supposed to rescue.
I would add what happens when I got back with the 5 scientists if anything however the server has just gone down :(
thankfully I had just docked.

When I've run this mission a couple of times the BS's have been Machs, but their DPS seems to have been scaled down since they didn't do massive damage to the ship I was using (Stabber Fleet Issue I think).
You can blitz it but the bounties for the BS's are ok for Level 2...

I'm having a blast with this game, and I'm quite new. Only been playing about 45 days? I started my first 3 weeks doing industry stuff, got bored so I decided to start PvE missions. Much more fun but only have about 20days time of training for combat.
Anyways, I finished the SoE arc, started some level 2 missions and man are they hard. I lost two cruisers doing the mission you mentioned and have come very close a number of times to losing a ship. It's down right discouraging to be honest because level 1's are sooo easy, but stepping into Level 2's are really difficult. If level 2's are than much harder than level 1's, I'm almost scared to even think about the shock I'll receive again once I move from level 2's to 3's.

Mission of Mercy is one of the hardest, if not THE hardest L2 out there. With some decent shield skills you can solo it in a well-fit Caracal without having to warp out, but it is still very difficult. It was my very first L2, and after 2 close calls and 5 warp-outs, I was pretty discouraged, but most L2s are much, much easier.

warping in and warping out does not work!!!
I just tried it with a shuttle. I deliberately took a shuttle to test this theory and so I wouldnt lose much if these battleships where there that everyone keeps mentioning.
when you first arrive you'll receive damage from the worm hole. I sat and waited for the green 'mission done' - it never came, so I approached the oberon. as I got close, all ships blew up including my shuttle. then four frigs spawn. the damage didnt come from these frigs, it came from the worm hole
Im now about to go back with a cruiser and pick up the scientist. ----------------------------------------------- As for the Tao, the Tao that can be spoken of is not the constant Tao...

Passive tank means you're increasing the shields resists and recharge rate, instead of using a shield booster. You still use active hardeners.
