Don't vote if you feel it's not worth it. Simple, really.
I for my part think that all CSMs did do a great job in getting what the playerbase thinks to the ears of CCP. Sure, there were bumps and some drama on the way, but still, the comunication gets better with every new CSM.
The CSMs got CCP to do things which would not have happened - even if some stuff was "low hanging fruits".
Even getting CCP to simply state why some stuff is done (or not) is rather satisfying and way more than players of other mmmos could ever hope to know.

to anyone thinking of running for CSM...
if you want my vote you have to have as your policy.
1. Hybrid fix 2. af 4th bonus 3. BO Boost 4. low sec boost 5. some sort of mechanic that allows small or solo pvp... dont care if its arena combat or some sort of Concord sanctioned fight (like a war dec but only lasts half an hour)
that is all...
oh and i guess fix the darn sov system...

After the great work of the previous CSM and their vocal expressions of frustration I'm in two minds about running again. However CCP did implement a number of changes I campaigned for, and there are still more where that came from, so I believe I shall throw my hat in once more. Vote Illectro for CSM5! Declare war, wait an hour, withdraw war. Next day you have a war that will last for one hour, which can be a rather expensive war (considering that the price usually gets you a full week)

I suggest people don't get the idea that they can run on a narrow platform of fix X and actually expect to be able to get X fixed. CCP are only now putting time into issues raised nearly 3 years ago.

Just my .02, but CSM is no longer just about changing this thing or that thing in the game. It is a stakeholder and as such can be most effective when its members are able to maintain a bigger picture view on the game, the community, and CCP. Those CSM6 candidates who combine game knowledge and experience with the ability to communicate well, ask hard questions of CCP and insist on answers, and effectively interact with the community and media are going to be best position to leverage the progress of CSM5. CSM5 did not get the wins that we did by focusing on narrow elements of the game, but by making every effort to keep CCP accountable, communicative, and collaborative. No easy task--and not going to get any easier for CSM6, but absolutely necessary in the current environment.
For those considering running, and those reviewing prospective candidates...I urge you to consider all the factors that make for a successful CSM and don't draw your boundaries too tightly around hoped-for changes in specific game mechanics.

This is exactly right. I think we've set the CSM on a very productive, useful course with CSM5. However, it is a course that requires constant attention and quite a lot of effort. This is not just a :freetrip:.
And as mynxee said: while its tempting to run a "I will fix [feature]" platform, the CSM is about much more than that and you probably won't be able to keep your specific promise anyway.

Looking forward to seeing departing CSM members do live roundtable sessions, or even podcasts, telling the stories of how the CSM functions, what topic where went how, what methods in dealing with CCP for planning and scheduling worked, so that new CSM candidates do not have to reinvent the wheel and can figure out how CCP works.

There is a continuity document being written, also each CSM gets to read all the previous discussions and so forth in the CSM forum which helps. Additionally every CSM so far has had at least a couple of members from the previous session for continuity, and those former members who aren't delegates any more can still be contacted if there are specific questions to be answered.
No CSM after the first one has had to reinvent the wheel, what more often happens is that the candidates find when taking their places, the CSM is nothing like they expected it to be while campaigning and they need to make some sharp adjustments. --------------------------------------------------------------

perhaps you are confused as to what 'like' means... it would be like a war dec... but be much cheaper... have to be agreed on by both parties...
its pretty much a mechanic that will allow pvp for people that usually dont have any access to it... i.e. people who are in noob corps and people who just want a good fight without having to worry about getting ganked by 20 other guys...
can flipping is not an option becuase that just leads to getting ganked by multiple people
and going to low sec and negotiating a fight leads to getting boinked by 20 peeps in t3 ships...
we need a mechanic that will allow small time pvp...

also i am pretty narrow minded... so hopefully if we just keep at it... they will eventually listen...

Hi Jade,
This depends on severity. Generally relatively minor infractions of the rules (either ingame or on the forums) will not cause a candidacy application to be rejected. The longer duration since the infraction the more leniency is given. _______________ CCP Diagoras Research and Statistics |

Thanks, who should I email to follow up on this? I would like to run for CSM but currently do have a forum ban on my main. I would like to email someone my mains name privately to discuss the situation.

PS: Is a post from a dev who still hasn't created his new avatar really an official dev post?

Nope. :)
I'm running for CSM 6.
As a CCP employee at the time, I watched from the inside as the CSM grew from an experiment into something that's now become, what I believe, to be one of the most important forces for change in the direction of the game. At the end of the day, I believe that even the most bitter folks on this forum and in every EVE community all want the same thing - a fun and balanced game to play.
One of the key elements in moving the next CSM forward will be continuing to improve on the communication and accountability processes between the players and the developers. As someone that has been passionately involved from both sides of the fence, I feel I can do this very effectively.

It is going to be an interesting campaign this time around and I am wondering how many of the current CSM will be coming back for another kick at the can. Make no mistake, folks, you read between the lines and you can see that some of the CSM did a TON of work this time round and didn't always get the . . . responses or timelines they wanted (NDA's and such)
The last CSM set the bar quite high . . .
But I am willing to try as well.

Ill probebly ask this knowing that the details should be available elsewhere, but...
- what is expecter of the person that joins the csm expanse wise? Something like pay your own ticket to whateverplaceonearth? In all the years ive played this game, this is aquestion that has been bugging me all along...
- Since a lot of CSM members have replied to the tread, how long on average in hours a week do you spend for the csm?
This so that us, unknown to csm members, also get an idea of the amazing work and input u people give to the game; afterall we would not be here today if it wasnt for ccp and their csm...

Subjectively and purely based on what is visible from the outside, it seems among the CSM members you have put the most effort into it. That might ofc not reflect the actual effort and I can only suggest to (future) CSMs to get more visibility by engaging in dialog with other players, especially in AH. ________________________ CCP: Where fixing bugs is a luxury, not an obligation. |
