Okay as a new player who has taken the mining route to make a moderate income this all scares me. While I sit at my computer most of the time I am mining (in a retriever no skills for hulk) I do not watch local chat. Sometimes like now I am reading forum or guides and others I am chatting in company (NPC starter) or another chat. Now reading this I see that if I am not in local chat and yet still actively transfering from cargo to a container when it fills I will get blown up? WTF how is someone new to the game suposed to make enough ISK to get skillbooks, fittings, and ships while training skills and learning more about the game?

Getting blown up is always a possibility, but correlation =/= causation.

You'll make plenty of ISK over time. You may get blown up along the way, but it won't prevent you from progressing. If that was the case, nobody would play EVE.

I wouldn't worry about it to much, you'll lose ships no matter what but a retriever is fairly easy to replace.
Most of the people boasting about ganking bot miners are just chest thumping and waving epeens around. TBH they don't care if you're a bot or not, they just want easy no challenge kills to further inflate said epeen --------------------------------------------- Proudly posting with my Alt since 2009

Just make sure there are no russians in local before you start mining. Create an overview selection that has only combat ships on it and one for mining. Once you start mining, switch to the combat ships overview, if anything larger than a destroyer gets within 40 km of you OR if numerous small ships get within 20 km of you, watch them like a hawk and get ready to bug out. Have have a tank fit. No problems. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

BTW it's not that I mind getting blown up in fact I expect it how else am I gonna lear not to get blown up? I just want to avoid getting be blown up because someone thought I was a bot it would **** me off. I fully understand bot frustrations though I left a game so rampant with bots it was getting impossible for someone who was not botting to compete.

Just read my above post. In 3 years of ice mining on my alt, I've witnessed many suicide ganks and have had people try to suicide my alt and never once lost a ship by doing exactly what I posted above. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

Don't stay in an NPC corp too long either, it's like painting a big target on yourself. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

Originally by: Steve Thomas I still say that if the real problem with the mineral supply is not macro mining bots but mission running bots then the solution is to have people come swarming out of low-0-0 sec like a plage of death undying and wipe out the mission hubs.
Umm I hate to break it to you, but I think it's a very safe bet to say that most botting in this game goes on in null sec. There are entire null alliances built on bot/RMT income.
Also I'd be very surprised if there were actually bots capable of running missions. Lets remember it's not just warp in kill every NPC in sight.. some missions have structures that need killed or items that need looted from various wrecks.
It would be very hard to make a bot to do all that.. vs a simple ratting bot that hammers away at belt NPC's all day long.

Originally by: Titus Phook pfft I afk mine, so what?, everybody plays the game in their own fashion, it's no worse than going into a lvl 4 in a Domi, getting aggro and releasing the drones then buggering off to watch TV or keep the wife happy.
AFK miners are easy to tell apart from bots, they sit at at a dead stop unattended when either the targeted roid runs out or they get full. ...... continues overleaf. |

Regrettably, this and then some. Great chunks of 0.0 are replete with bot ravens used allegedy for RMT. Theres a reason why 0.0 is a huge napfest, because noone wants the boat rocked when they are making a comfortable (rl) living.

Do more research. The bot has to be tailored to the mission, but ppl swap scripts and can easily leave a set of lucrative missions open and afk farm them all for a week.

I can't stand it when people go around trying to be bot police. People should learn to watch local? really? So you just go around popping peoples hulks just because they don't respond to you in local... there Is no need to worry about local unless your in low sec. I don't ever look at it in empire and I'm sure there are a lot of others that don't. and so what if they don't accept your convo? maybe they simply don't want to talk to? you have probably ruined some noobs day and destroyed his two hundred million isk ship that he worked very hard for.

Also keep in mind that by zooming your camera out to be able to see what's going on is a good idea too. If somebody shows up on-grid (what you can see in space) and starts zooming straight for you, make an attempt to dock up. Keep local unstacked from the rest of your chat channels and pay attention to how busy it is and if people are talking about getting ganked. If you actually care, you can prevent the suicide gank. If you're asleep at the wheel, then you *obviously* don't care, and nobody feels bad about it.

Very much this!
+ What makes it so difficult for some ppl to answer a convo?
When a guy in a Tempest is asking you "How¦s it going?" who obviously wants to know if you are afk/botting, asking the same 15 mins. again. It¦s not like you have to answer: "Dear Sir, im no social person and i don¦t want to interact/talk to you". A simple "atk gtfo" is enough, which means the same as above.
But after your (civilian shield boosterd) Hulk goes pop, you smack in local. Imo you deserved/asked for it.
