For those of you who were not aware, there was an exploit available that allowed you to cycle your weapon mods much faster than intended. For ships that used artillery, they did 300-400% more damage.
AFAIK this has been fixed, but people in wormholes and running other PVE missions got 24 hours where they basically could kill things twice or three times as fast. That can translate into a lot of ISK if you put in an 8 hour grind session.
That is not to mention the people who used it in suicide ganks to get far greater returns than meant to be possible (imagine having 3500 alpha DPS for 5 seconds during a suicide gank vs. 800...)
I'm sure CCP punished virtually noone and made no effort to seek out those who spent the entire time profiting madly from this? And how did this not get caught before it went live?
tl;dr Some people with the right PVE setup *really* made out by sploiting this week

Edited by: Dr Fab on 24/01/2011 00:34:29 OP here I might have exaggerated a little bit, but people will agree with me that it at least doubled your DPS in artillery ships. Specifically, it helped out most in the first ten seconds of a fight - your 'alpha' DPS. (or at least thats what I thought alpha meant). I'm sorry if I used some mechanical terms incorrectly.

Uh... yeah, no.
Alpha is shorthand for "Alpha Strike". It is literally what it sounds like, the very first hit - as in the very first volley you put out. It has nothing to do with DPS, which is volley damage divided by the rate of fire in seconds.

The "exploit" still exists when systems are lagged to hell, you can actually break weapon cycles and then spam F1 and you will get a damage notification for each single press.

I think the term exploit is overused in general, and specifically in this case is not really appropriate.
Terming something an exploit implies a conscious, willful bypassing of game mechanics. In other words, a pilot would have to know the 'exploit' existed and then use it to his advantage. OP offers absolutely no proof this happened.
I believe, instead, that an Incursion patch bug was introduced/existed that was accidentally discovered. After that, after the first instance of noticing this increased damage effect, others may have then exploited the bug for their advantage. Each of those, and the pilot that told them about it, should be sanctioned by CCP, but if they are we should never know about it.
Oh, and discussion of exploits and bugs is verboten, so expecting the lock any second now.

Uh, this exploit actually required a specific sequence of actions to trigger the bug that wouldn't really happen accidently unless you spammed the set of actions over and over, it involved breaking weapon cycling not increased damage directly.

Edited by: Redloc on 24/01/2011 01:35:54 Sorry for my misuse of vocab - that is not my point here.
I've seen a copy/paste of an evemail to a GM and they confirm that this is in fact an exploit. That is what I'm basing my assumption on. Besides, trying to argue that this is a 'feature' and that the weapons are working as intended is absurd.
It does increase your DPS directly - I won't go into detail here, but it most certainly assuredly increases your DPS by a very significant amount.
All of these things you are flaming me for aren't my point. My point is 1. A lot of people are taking advantage of an exploit and 2. CCP isn't *attempting* to stop them, not even with a warning

Please do not discuss potential exploits on the forums. If you are in doubt whether something is an exploit or not, file a petition.
For the reference, the bug in question has been fixed.
