After weeks of trying to convince my friend to play eve he finally agreed. We were on the phone and he couldn't get any further than waiting for the Character Creator to load. After about 45 minutes of continually trying, "Screw this" he said and hung the phone up. Yeah a real buddy programme this is. Has anyone got any friends left?

So you are blaming eve for the fact that your buddy has a **** pc? C'mon dude.
I got 4 buddy invites accepted in the past 2 months. Yeah it works just fine unless your mates are on zx spectrum.

Quad core. 3.2. + 8 gig ram 1 gig graphics card and can also run 4 applications of eve. I know cos I sold it to him so's he could play eve. Cable broadband no problem either. Can you do any other tricks with your ass other than talk out of it?

Edited by: Aridae on 24/01/2011 11:17:29 Well, thousands upon thousands of people are able to play EVE, make new characters, alt accounts and whatnot. If he was capable of logging in the account that means it has nothing to do with the buddy program, if he somehow has issues at character creation that sounds like a graphics issue, probably directX or vid drivers.
It's not like you can blame CCP for this.

When did this deal happen? You might want to go over to your friend and check his (your) pc out.. might be a funny or scary experience for you to see what other people can do to finely tuned and oiled machines if they don't care or have no clue.

I was wondering if there was some sort of queue system going on with the character creator. Do any of you ever remember getting a message that the cluster was full and you were in a queue and nothing ever happened. I could actually log another toon into the game while one was still waiting which made the so called queue notification bullcrap. Is this similar?

It's not like you can blame CCP for this.
That argument is great if CCP are willing to reimburse the users who purchased eve when it met their system requirements. How the hell would you feel if you paid for a years subscription of eve and one month later there was a compulsory upgrade that stopped you being able to access the game?

If you can afford an year's subscription, I'm sure you can cough up enough for a processor that isn't 10 years old
And that is irreverent to the topic anyway since your friend has a quad

Cancel your sub and petition on grounds that you are being denied service as your specifications have changed.
From experience, though slow, CCP are fairly honourable when it comes to reimbursing sub-monies. They should not bow to those with inferior (read sub-modern) computers just because they want to live in retro-land, but neither will they (I hope) demand they pay for a service they can no longer use (even if it is by stoneage choice).

Nobody here is raging. I have had experience with submitting a petition and it was useless. I post on here in the hope that the people who work at CCp read the posts and can understand the consequences of making upgrades without giving customers the full information beforehand.

So that post was just for the sake of posting or what? No problems running the game or downloading superfast. The problem is at CCP's end.

The only "upgrade without giving customers the full information" was the SSE2 issue, which, as far as I know, is being worked at, and the reason the customers weren't told about that until 2 days before the patch was that CCP didn't know until two days before the patch.
We had full information about everything else. Oh, and nothing in this expansion should have caused the slightest issue with a one-month old system unless said system was broken in some way. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Character creator loaded for me on a 1.6Ghz Intel Atom machine with 2.5Gig ram and an Nvidia Ion (first gen) graphics chip..
Now I'm sorry.. but if THAT can run the Character creator (be it with low graphics) then I don't care what you have... it will run. You're just doing something wrong.. REALLY WRONG

If your friend has a short attenttion span, he won't last long in Eve even if he does create a character.

All of you busting on Zars about antiquated and stoneage hardware, perhaps you should get your facts straight before you post. The issue with the Character Creator hanging is not related to old hardware, bad drivers, nor anything else on the client side. There are many players who are having the same problem and their computers cover a wide array of system configurations, old and new.
I'm using a laptop that is four years old with an Intel chipset but I have been playing EVE with most graphics options on high for the past two years AND the CC worked on Sisi, yet since launch, I get the hanging progress bar even though I've tried every workaround and suggestion posted here in the forums and given to me from Tech Support in reply to my petition. There are many others who are using NVIDIA or Radeon cards experiencing the same issue. This is not a client-side hardware problem. There was something changed in the code between the CC on Sisi and the CC in the Incursions launch that is affecting random players regardless of how old or updated their systems are and CCP has no idea where the problem lies nor are they going to bother fixing it apparently. So why don't those of you who posted here in a derogatory, smug manner just so you can look at your cool new avatar, go blow it out your arse.

What a tard.
Obviously I can see your mate has top notch support.
Anyway, 45 mins on the phone? Heard of Skype, Tema Speak, Ventrilo?
Further more did you check error logs, AV (assuming you need one) or anything else for that matter.
The description you gave it sounds like you just kept trying it over and over like a wasp flying into a window.
If you have tried troubleshooting this then please, let us know whats been attempted so that someone can suggest something else.
Lastly, and this is the clincher. Did you try to log him into one of your accounts? Or create the character for him via a trial and then let him log in as that. That would certainly eliminate the creator a s the cause of this.
Clearly not...

Or did you invite him over to your house for a couple of beers and work on the character together? You were on the phone with him so why not bring him over. EVE works on your computer.
I can understand the frustration of not being able to do something. But, there is always another solution. After the first unable to connect messages you should have suggested trying a different day or invited him over.
Don't give up on your friend. There will be a solution and a way. He's just had a terrible first experience which sucks but it isn't because of the buddy system.

Ignore the no-life trolling idiots who cry you suck or that the pc is faulty.
I had the same issue when I first tried the character creator, start it, stays on the black screen with preparing char creator or some such, and never enters the editor itself. Trick is, to wait 5mins or so, then press escape. This will bring up the quit/options menu, and when u escape back out of that the editor will magically reappear. Google it, you (and I) are not the only ones with this issue.
