So, I didn't see anything discussing this and was wondering if maybe I'm missing something or if the planning of missions in this environment is to difficult to do what I would like to see or had hoped to see.
As I've played and asked around about missions, I know about the various sites to help find agents and missions. Those are all nice and such but I would like to see/hope to see something like this:
At the starting station, you get the tutorial agents. You start with one, complete their missions/training and they tell you to go see the next one, etc. I think one of them actually tells you to go see the Sisters for a mission, that was good.
Anyway, the agent works for a NPC corporation like the Bank of Luminaire/Advisory division. They could have you run a few missions then tell you to go see the agent in the Federal Administration/Security division at some other station, or they could have you run one of the courier mission to a new agent and that new agent gives you more missions and then sends you somewhere else.
This goes on like this taking you from one system to another until all that level missions are done and then the last agent in the chain sends you to a higher level agent to do more missions.
The story line missions could still come in at every 16th mission (I think that's when thy come up) and epic missions could come in at some other interval too. Some missions could be repeatable, like the ones where you have to kill off the pirates blockading a gate, or attacking a convoy, etc. Even some of the missions where all you do is go mine some ore could be repeatable.
Right now every agent (of a level) has the same set of missions but in some random order and you eventually have to decline the missions, dropping your rating, and hope for one you haven't run yet. It just seems there could be more potential in developing mini story lines for missions (like some of the multiple missions that are out there already) that would take you all over the universe.
Okay, I'm probably just dreaming wishfully, but maybe someday it will become true. LOL Cheers!

Edited by: Emperor Salazar on 24/01/2011 20:10:18 The eve missioning system is a bit outdated, but there have been some efforts to revive it.
The standard agents are primarily for grinding/isk making, this is true. Have you tried any of the epic arcs yet? There are both high security faction ones and pirate faction ones; they are pretty entertaining, rewarding and can be repeated after a few months.
There are also the COSMOS, but these were pretty fail IMO; try a search for some guides on them (you have to figure out who to go to and the lower level ones are largely useless).
In all honesty, I don't anticipate much more than more epic arcs being added in terms of "missions." CCP seems to be gearing more toward the "raiding" system, as can be seen with wormholes and incursions.

What you've described is exactly what Epic Arc missions are. Try the Sisters of EVE one, or get your faction standings up a bit and try the L4 one for any of the big four factions. You can redo them every three months.
The ones I've done are actually involved and interesting (at least compared to normal missions). Give it a shot. ששששש

Not really, because it offers what you so desperately seek.

Not a bad idea but it's actually up to the player to seek out better agents to mission for.
As for having agents refer you to another agent, yeah there are some that do just that. Epic Arc Agents, Career Agents, Cosmos Agents and Circle Agents are all known as Event_Agents.

I'd like to start out by saying. I have played eve for over 3 years and ran countless missions for all factions. The missions of date are boring and pointless, plus the new epic arc missions have no reward that is epic either. Im not strictly a high sec player but do like the ocassional mission. At this point missions are good if you are coming up as a new player in the game, but for the older players with higher skills, it leaves us with no challenge. Why in the world would all lvl5 agents now only spawn missions in low sec, atleast lvl5 missions did give us a little of a challenge. Does this mean CCP is dictateing our game play by forceing us to run only lvl4 missions or asking that we take our PVE ships into low sec with the possiblity of loosing more than what we would have gained? Care to respond CCP?! A revamp of missions or new tougher missions is a must for PVE'ers and plz bring back lvl5 missions into high sec or the possibilty of a spawn in high sec. As it stands, missions are boring and weak.

I really do hate that some EVE players are give these pompous answers for new player's questions all the time. Anyway, WOW is a great game, I play EVE and WOW both. They are just not the same. Two different style game. I also hate when people despise WOW. It is not EVE and never wanted to be. Anyway, WOW has 12 million players, EVE has 100k... Why EVE don't have more players? And in a lot of ways, WOW is much more sophisticated than EVE.
