Edited by: Alastanir on 25/01/2011 01:58:47 I had a nice robotics production on a plasma planet that only required command center 3. I kissed that good-bye last Tuesday with the new update. I just finished upgrading to command center 4, hoping that would be enough, and... lo and behold: it isn't. I now have to wait 25 damn days for cc5 before I can produce robotics again.
Thanks for screwing me over CCP.

That's why people pay attention to dev blogs and SiSi well before a major patch is deployed. You could have known this a month ago, and you could have had the skill at V by now.

You're telling someone to read dev blogs, which shouldn't be required to play an MMORPG productively. A small percentage of users even read forums, let alone blogs and SiSi.

It's not required, but if you don't keep up with what changes are coming ù especially when those changes are presented and available for testing months before the actual change ù you kind of forfeit the whole "waah, changes screwed me over" line of whining. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

I'm not telling anyone to do anything. I'm saying that if he would do some things other people do, he would be well-prepared for any expansion. It's up to him to do whatever he likes. But one path will lead to ingame success and another path will lead to whines and subsequent ridicule on the forums.

You what? He shouldn't have to read the Fing manual before knowing what to do? Which is essentially what you are saying .. a dev blog outlines changes that are happening, SISI and the forums are a place to discuss and explore them. Are you suggesting CCP are meant to beam the information into people's heads or something instead?
What a ridiculous statement to make.

/sigh, MMOs != FPSs. You have to do some out of game reading/research to really excel. Just how it is; always has been; always will be.

I guess. I can understand how it's my responsibility to find out what changes will be happening. As a new player, I'm sure everyone that has joined in the last two months is reading the dev blogs.
I mean, blog reading is a required part of every MMO, based upon your logic. I played DDO for over 3 years, and Turbine had at least the decency to broadcast the upcoming changes on the login screen, not expect us to follow their developer's blogs.

True; sure; but then it's still your responsibility to read the login screen messages, and plenty of people won't even do that, and then go complain on the forums. Devs can't win.

They did announce it on the login screen. They said "there are changes, here is a link to those changes"

Your ineffiient set up was always inefficient. Now you get obvious penalties for being inefficient, to deter people from being stupid in the first place.
The worst part is if he was willing to turn on his brain for a few seconds, he'd realize that he can still have his inefficient one-planet robotics setup with his current skills.

Welcome to EVE. It's not quite the same around here. I mean, did you seriously wander in not realizing this thing is a huge economic simulator wrapped around internet spaceships? Because if you had read the ****ing manual it probably wouldn't be that hard to realize that continuing to read it might be a good idea.
Or maybe I'm the only one who read up before subbing? I find that rather hard to believe....

Best thing I find is to go through the news and dev blogs section and sign up for the RSS that best suites the information you're looking for. If you have a smart phone this really helps as you'll be updated as it happens. I realize not everyone has this and that it could also just be posted on the log in screen but to be quite honest mine is going off non-stop with updated news so I'm pretty sure the log in screen information would not solve your issue as there are just too many topics to put up.
On the sign in screen I know there is a link to the Dev Blogs as well where you could see this and also when you do update, though it's too late by then, you can review the patch notes.
Sorry for your loss.

Inefficient? I hardly call a full robotics production on one planet inefficient. Well, it's no longer a full robotics production since the last update.
Turn on my brain? You're a dumb-ass. If you're assuming that I'm incapable of figuring out how PI has changed, you're the one that needs to turn your brain on. It's not possible to make a full robotics production with lvl3 or lvl4 command centers anymore -- it's impossible, as a matter of fact.
Oh well. I don't care anymore. I'm manufacturing wetware mainframes now.

Dude, I have command center upgrades to level 4 and I already have a planet that's strictly for production of Robotics. I also have two other planets that strictly harvest the materials needed for said commodity and then transfer them to the single production planet to complete the chain. This is the most efficient method of creating Robotics (or any other commodity for that matter) and I don't need CCU lvl 5 to achieve that. What you are saying suggests that you are harvesting materials and producing Robotics all on one planet. Is that true? If so, that's the wrong way to do it.

Being able to do something is different from being able to do something efficiently. I can complete level 4 missions in a Jaguar, you don't hear me say "I hardly call being able to finish a level 4 mission in a Jaguar inefficient".

This complaint is about an obvious nerf that kills profitability without adding ANY "exiting" gameplay like the new extractor jokeying and it¦s still OZOM?

As others have mentioned: it's only a nerf if you were doing it wrong to begin with. Granted, shipping stuff back and forth might not be much in the way of "exciting gameplay", but it's still more interaction with the process, just like the extractor change. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Kills profitability? I'm seeing increased profits already with my production planet. In fact, I even have trouble keeping the customs office from being filled up to capacity with P1 materials like Precious Metals, Toxic Metals, Chiral Structures, and Reactive Metals. Thankfully, I have enough advanced processors to quickly turn them all into Robotics commodities. In a single day (perhaps two days), I can easily churn out 200 units of Robotics which sell for a total of probably 11-15mil ISK with the current market. Not bad for passive income. After all, PI was never meant to be any form of active income in Eve. And if you're like me and wish to make it into an active income, you'll need to train alts to do that. I got two accounts and 4 toons doing PI. In a single week, I can almost easily rack in between 50-70mil ISK as long as I keep an eye on my planets.
Of course, it took me several weeks to reach that goal since I had to figure out what was the optimal setup for extraction and production. Trial and error is key to getting it right. You don't simply drop and CC and randomly place ECUs and processors without planning and expect to get awesome results. The people who will profit from PI will be those who take the time to find the optimal setup and keeps a very diverse portfolio (Robotics is not the only commodity you can profit from).
If you like, I can post some screenshots to show you the optimal setup I got so i can help you out.

Cool then. But better post your tips to one of the official PI Guides out there. Maybe even on the wiki. Much more useful that way.
All I ever hear about is the PI whining. A proper hint how to adapt would be very appreciated for us PI newbies.

Posted a new tutorial here:

It's not 100% comprehensive. It only serves to provide an example on how one can create a Robotics production planet without have to train to CCU Lvl 5.
