I have been running level 4's for some time now using standard scourge missiles in my drake. I decided to try and increase the speed of running the missions by fitting T2 ammo. At 20 times the price it seems to do less than double the damage and because the flight time was 10% less the range was reduced meaning I had to fly 7 km's further to engage thus losing more time. Reading mission reports, capsuleers continually quote their use of T2 ammo and for me it didn't really make much difference. My skills allow me to make scourge in 300,000 batches remotely with no messing around, inventing, copying, and all that goes along with that. Purchasing is the other option which sometimes means several jumps which all add or rather subtract from mission running time thus making it less cost effective. Is T2 ammo really just for PvP that has some trendiness attached to it which wants to make mission runners use it?

No ammo is really 'worth it' when you can have drones kill the NPCs without it costing you a penny.
It all depends how fast you want to complete the mission, and what profit you are willing to forgo for the increase in completion time.

Easy one.
Calculate your average ISK/h and Missile Ammo-use
Faction does around 10% more damage then T1. Also you are breaking NPC-Tanks faster or even kill a small ship with 2 instead of 3 volleys. The downside is, you still have to fly the same ways to get there. So let's say you kill 20% faster with Faction-Ammo.
If the cost of the Faction-ammo is less then 20% of you currten ISK/h ratio usw it. If it's even or higher, don't use it.
P.s. On ships with low rof and/or high dmg-boni like Marauders it's worth using it [at least for me]

If I didn't spend my "ellpeez" on ammo I would have to buy out Chribba twice a month just to use it up. -----

You don't use T2 and/or faction ammo against all enemies, only specific ones (the ones that take the longest to kill normally).
And anyway, that's not how you calculate the stuff. You calculate in terms of ISK gained by running the mission in a shorter time. So, before, say you could have averaged 20 mil ISK/hour running L4s (a rough number), but with T2 fury ammo shot at just the BSs, you end up earning 23 mil ISK/hour. Cost of one hour of T1 ammo well under 200k, cost of mixed T1/T2fury ammo per hour around 1.2 mil. Total improvement somewhere in the vicinity of 2 mil ISK/hour. A net gain.
Also, what the bloody hell are you doing at maximum engagement range in a Drake ? Either your range-based skills are lacking or you're not maneouvering properly during the mission. _

Yep drones are the most efficient way of mission running... But imo faction ammo is worth it. Or Maybe it's Maybelline?
Anyway, I use tachyon beams with faction crystals for lvl4's which is a different story. Every now and again I'll go and stock up on crystals, usually several hundred at a time, and that will normally keep me going for a good few weeks. With the huge max range you get from tach's and the higher dps it noticeably speeds things up for me. Tech 2 ammo though? Well I'm not so sure about that, tech 2 crystals are expensive and burn out quite quickly compared to the other types. Up to you really..

Pirate invasion, you warp in with the furthest ship at about 90kms. You are agroed immediately as the ships start to spawn so you shoot like crazy trying to get the BS's down. you dont approach the furthest ship because this puts you in range of the other incoming ships. You try to pick them off closest first. Eventually when it all starts to subside you approach the last ships and try to agro them to come towards yo but one always gets stuck in the blasted space station. Scourge 74kms range Scourge fury 67kms range. It's all about time management. Since I can't make T2 without ****ing around and scourge I can make in my local station then that time has also got to be factored in.

For me finishing a mission in 30 minutes instead of 40 isn't a big deal. But sometimes there's that one ship or a pack of BS that just won't go down easily. This is particularly true with the Drake as it is a bit DPS deficient for L4s. That's when I use faction ammo. My simplified method for figuring this out is to shoot with regular ammo and if the shield/armor of some ship keep repairing themselves too fast, I switch to faction. Some missions have "that" ship that is just darn hard to kill. Eventually you'll learn which it is and reload before targeting it.

84/76 at max skills, 88/79 with 5% flight time implant.
Also, you usually do Pirate Invasion by aggroing EVERYTHING as soon as it shows up, and you ORBIT the big central structure at 50km or thereabouts. The only "downtime" in shooting stuff should be as you just come into the mission, afterwards it's constant fire. _
