Edited by: Culmen on 27/01/2011 06:15:44 I found Dead Space 1 to be boring as hell.
No effective use of atmosphere, tension or build up. Just a jump scare after jump scare, after a while you work out the algorithm and start preemptively charging weapons.
Didn't find it scary at all. Primarily because of my deep held personal belief that anything you can pistol whip to death with minimal risk to yourself is automatically not scary. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Originally by: Irida Mershkov Dead Space games aren't scary, they're games with panic and tension moments, not full out fear. Any game that allows you to slaughter your way through opponents will never be scary, because you know you can beat them.
That said, my pre-order copy came this morning, time for some slaughtering of necros.
I found the Dead Space to be boring, not because it wasn't scary. But because it was inanely repetative. Walk in room, necromorph jump out and goes "BOO!", slaughter necromorph with ripper, repeat.
There wasn't much variety in how the necromorphs chose the jump out and say "BOO!". There wasn't much tactics beyond "apply ripper to arms and legs" Just repeating the same ambush encounter over and over again. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

My unauthorized demo of Dead Space 2 is going a long way to reversing my impression of the series.
It's still not scary most of the time, but it's a well done action game. They seem to have clean up the mouse controls, making the experience playable on the PC. I really love how they ripped off shattered horizons, and introduced zero-g movement.
If they make good use of the mechanic I might just have to run out and buy the game. and further more why do i even need a sig? |
