I am still away from eve working on working on EvE:Deliverance, which i hope you are all looking forward to! However i thought i would write a quick catch up guide on dead space to get you ready for the next installation in the series. Dead space takes place in the year 2508 AD. Humans have colonized deep space after centuries of war on Earth over ever decreasing resources. The human race has grown so quickly that conventional methods of harvesting resources will no longer keep up with the ever increasing demand. Because of this a new method of deep space mining was developed known as planet cracking. In the game you control an Engineer called Isaac Clarke, who is sent to respond to the distress signal of the USG ISHIMURA, the oldest capital class planet cracking in service . The Ishimura has been mining a planet is a restricted system when they discovered a artifact, known only as 'the marker', believe to be on alien origin. Shortly after is discovery the colony on the planet and the ship go silent. I don't want to give too much way because it will spoil the story, so for anyone who is no familiar with the story, what are you waiting for?! You can watch play through of the two games here- Dead space Dead space:extraction And/or You could watch the animated movie, dead space:downfall But that should get you up to date on the dead space serious, i am yet to play DS2 but i am going to this weekend. I will update this post when i have something to report. I do know, that DS2 takes place on TITAN station, a mega city on Titan, one of Saturn's moons, otherwise known as the SPRAWL. I don't want to give too much away but basically, it is 3 years later, the marker has driven ISAAC insane and there is another necromorph outbreak. lots of blood/guts and shoot'um up action as well as some stunning graphics, can't wait!

Best bit of this game is Isaac swearing like a Liverpudlian when you start hammering the stomp button.

I was beginning to think that Isaac was going to go all Gordon Freeman on us, but then he saves it with the swearing

He can speak now? Cool, I guess.
Although I must admit I found his grunts in DS1 very satisfying as well. That together with the loud thump spoke volumes about how he'd had it with these mother****ing necromorphs on this mother****ing spaceship and how it was time to put his foot down.
Aaaanyway, I've been looking forward to DS2, yet I'd pretty much forgotten it was due for release. Thanks for the heads up!

Dead Space is one of my favorite games ever.
So far on Chapter 4 of DS2. Running around with my unitology suit feels awesome; people are running and screaming while I'm in my crazy suit with crazy symbols being a badass (which feels good considering the events of the first game) and blasting everything.
Ugh though I have so many games I want to play through but not enough time. Just bought Dragon Age Ultimate Edition... Never got far into Fallout: NV.
If anyone knows how to pause time so I can play all these games and read some books please throw me an EVE mail.

Edited by: Culmen on 27/01/2011 06:15:44 I found Dead Space 1 to be boring as hell.
No effective use of atmosphere, tension or build up. Just a jump scare after jump scare, after a while you work out the algorithm and start preemptively charging weapons.
Didn't find it scary at all. Primarily because of my deep held personal belief that anything you can pistol whip to death with minimal risk to yourself is automatically not scary. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

I agree that it wasn't scary (not after having killed a handful of the filthy buggers anyway), but boring? Mmm, yeah... I'm gonna have to go ahead and sort of disagree with you there.
Despite being a crummy console OTS shooter I found it very entertaining and it had me glued to the chair both times I played it. I can only hope that DS2 is as good, and I can't wait to find out.
In case you're very, very bored at the moment, here's the thread about DS1, complete with the unwanted opinion of yours truly. :)

Dead Space games aren't scary, they're games with panic and tension moments, not full out fear. Any game that allows you to slaughter your way through opponents will never be scary, because you know you can beat them.
That said, my pre-order copy came this morning, time for some slaughtering of necros.

I found the Dead Space to be boring, not because it wasn't scary. But because it was inanely repetative. Walk in room, necromorph jump out and goes "BOO!", slaughter necromorph with ripper, repeat.
There wasn't much variety in how the necromorphs chose the jump out and say "BOO!". There wasn't much tactics beyond "apply ripper to arms and legs" Just repeating the same ambush encounter over and over again. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

DS2 is meant to fix that problem by mixing it up a little more.

Hmm... It seems I've been playing 9 hours non-stop (@ chapter 9 on survivalist), I'd say that's a pretty good indicator of how much I like it... It's just like DS1 yet without feeling cheap and repetitive, not bad to pull that off. Still not scary though, am perhaps a little disappointed. Hell, it doesn't even startle me.
But I guess the new and improved stomping makes up for that...

My unauthorized demo of Dead Space 2 is going a long way to reversing my impression of the series.
It's still not scary most of the time, but it's a well done action game. They seem to have clean up the mouse controls, making the experience playable on the PC. I really love how they ripped off shattered horizons, and introduced zero-g movement.
If they make good use of the mechanic I might just have to run out and buy the game. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Friend of mine said the best part of deadspace 2 is that you can use your own music.
He claims dubstep fits in perfectly
