The latest change to PI is simply terrific!
I can't say enough good things about it, seriously!
It's not a click fest anymore, and there is more involved game play, especially if you're building robotics on a single planet, it takes careful planning and thought, and yes t can be done! Also, the fact that now I have to think about power and links as well and try to squeeze the max out of the planets while running my extractors and balancing routes for my resources! It is a huge improvement over the previous PI version and I hope it only gets better!
Good job guys! You did this one right!

Yes. No more click-fest. Now it is a click-&-drag-fest.

This is a great improvement. Having 4 planets doesn't force me to waste 20 minutes every 3 hours to make a profit, now I set a 7 day program and it'll make me iskies!
Can't wait till I sell the first batch.

From what I've read they've just made it easier which puts me off as generall I find
Easy = boring
having not tried it just yet I can't say for sure though.

Well you didn't try it then because it is NOT easy. You have less power and you really need to think about links more and how to optimize them, I change my setups almost daily now, switch program extraction and balance yield to make sure I keep those processors running.
But it's not annoying anymore and I actually like doing it when I'm not busy with other things.
Maintenance is still there like before but way more manageable.

Agreed. Assuming they get all the bugs worked out, the new PI offers much better gameplay value than what we had.
You may or may not like the PI minigame, but where PI was a game that you played once while you set up the perfect production line and then did nothing more than click-click-click to reset it once a cycle, now it's a game that you keep playing as you try to optimize output through changing conditions on your planets.
The isk/hr may be too low for many players, but seriously, how much profit can you expect from something that everyone can do because of the low entry level requirements in terms of isk & skills invested, or from something that can be done at the same time you're doing whatever else it is that you do?

Somthing tells me he would still whinge if all you had to do was right click the planet and select the 'geif isk' button.
Now that the basic pi infrastructure is in a good workable state how about the dev team getting in some other factors on production like a workforce and such that has to be supplied with stuff to keep them happy and efficient.

Just wait for dust...there will be quite a challenge when your installations start getting blown up by console gamers, if they're going to stick to that concept... - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

I completely agree with this post. PI is much much more fun now. I had one of my players doing PI and within a month I stopped. I thought it was so incredibly dull. But the new system is streamlined enough that I'm excited to log in and see what they are doing and playing the math game a bit to maximize its output, move resources around from planet to planet to make what I need. It's enjoyable and I'm gonna have all five of my players doing it.

I wouldnt say it's easy especially when trying to balance 3 extractors and run a few processors. On top of the premo mats moving around as well. But it is far more interesting.

The biggest improvement outside the lack of extractors to click is the custom cycle times. I can now just run 12 hour cycles and not have to restock my planets with p0 and p1 materials to run everything at 100% constatly. I was spending most of my play time starting extractors then hauling **** to 12 different planets to keep my POS fuel production going full tilt. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

My issues with the pi changes are that whilst it is possible to produce p3 items on a single planet, the output of these is halved as I can't have the same amount of extractors and factories as I had before. Yes, with the extraction cycle changes it's giving more resources initially so there is scope for running more factories, but in practice I can only run half of what I had before to make it all work, even with maxxed pi skills.
What is worst is trying to make condensates on a gas giant. I previously had a steady trickle of condensates being produced and these were carried to my barren planet to make organic mortar applicators. Now I can't seem to fit the final factory onto the gas planet due to CPU and power requirements from the long links (which had to be upgraded to handle the load) and the p3 production now has to be done on another planet. As there are only 3 in the current system and the production lines are setup to make OMA's, there is little capacity left over for this additional processing requirement.

It's still boring and lacks immersion. I wan't to see a 3d planet surface environment. Well,at least a 2d picture not just dots and lines.

The new system isn't any less mindless.
There is pretty much no connection between the data you're presented and what you're going to get out of it. You can't plan anything - all you can do is drag your extractor heads around and hope the numbers go up. Many of those numbers are actively counter-intuitive, and none of the descriptions of what's happening actually matches up to the reality you experience while doing it.
I actually had more fun starting the old extractors than this one. At least it was simple and annoying. The new system is baffling and annoying, which is far more annoying.

I love the changes to PI as well. Volume may have suffered slightly for me, and some others, but PI is alot of fun now.

Edited by: Kyra Felann on 01/02/2011 02:33:19 It's true that the changes are all great. PI is, as you say, usable now. I didn't bother until now because I've got tendinitis in my wrist as it is, and all that clicking just wasn't worth it, plus it was just boring.
That said, I wonder if we will ever get what we were promised at FanFest 2009...you know, population mechanics, etc. We were promised something like Civilization or SimCity and we got SimPlumbing. It's no longer painful to use, but it's still far short of the original idea (which sounded really fun).
I don't want to sound negative here--as I said, the new changes are 100% great.
