I'm about to accept a multi-year assignment in China. I know there's a Chinese server, but I don't want to play on the Chinese server.
Will I still be able to play real Eve-Online from China?

I assume you could in a similar way but you might want to read about it here thanks to Chribba and reconsider if it's worth the effort :)

If possible you should keep your proxy in your control. The government tends to block known proxies, so set up a Linux machine someplace outside China and create an SSH tunnel into it.
You can find out more by searching for 'Eve online SSH tunnel'

You could tunnel a proxy out, but if they find it they will take a dim view and you may end up with your door being beaten down in the middle of the night and getting locked up indefinatly. Guess it is worth it for eve though :D

You need more SSH proxy. Super Spartan Heroes. They will break through the great firewall to a server waiting outside!

China doesn't get google because they are a horrible government ran by slavers that are afraid of their subjects learning. We should nuke that place. Oh, good luck playing EVE from the second worst place on Earth. SCHALAC HAS SPOKEN |

You, good Sir, need a reality check! Regardless, I think Egypt just took over the internet cencorship champion title.

I already have a DD-WRT setup as a VPN here in the USA (keeping the house and internet connection). My plan is to use it as my own, private proxy -- hopefully unknown to the Chinese government. Except, its main purpose was to be able to keep getting feeds from USA-only websites. So I guess I could use it for Eve in China, unless they block all VPN connections.
I guess I was just wondering if China (or CCP) specifically blocked non-China Eve.

Eve works for us over there, I've spent a few weeks there each year since starting Eve and surprisingly the connection is quite good. Not that much lag, though I wouldn't do any hardcore PvP if that is what you were intending.
Works in Mainland China and Hong Kong, though Mainland China internet can be quite horrific in places out of the main cities. You also notice a considerable drop in performance when everyone clocks in for their 9am job until late in the evening when it speeds back up.
Your Eve client will automatically connect in the normal way.

No. Im not a fan of Chinese Government but that is totally made up crap. Its plausible that the connection might be closed if the right person found out but there is no way they are going to bother you for playing a game.

you can connect fine to TQ from mainland China, I've done it many times but don't expect to do any pvp. You don't need a proxy to play. You would only need one for facebook and youtube

I don't know very much about it, but there is a program that you can use to by-pass the government filter. If you translate it from Chinese to English, it literally means "flip over the wall". Though it might only work for browsers.
Also I've stayed at some hotels where they by-pass the filter by connecting straight to a server in Hong Kong.

The PVP I do isn't possible? I've been in China for years now and have no idea what you're on about. I always knew those massive fleet fights I keep ending up in are a figment of my imagination
Youtube and Failbook are inaccessible. I don't miss Youtube that much and I never liked Failbook anyway.

So what is the biggest 0.0 alliance on the Chinese server 'farmers are us'?. I read some time ago that all of 0.0 turned into nap land.
I have wondered why regular EVE did not get Chinese character set support. EVE's backstory is abstract enough not to be offensive to the Chinese censors, or maybe not.

All you have to do is try to convince the Chinese to overthrow their government and they'll ban the whole game, that's why they're not allows to connect to our server (some do via proxies and the like)

Thank you! I'd hate to go there for three years, not have access, and forget about my auto-renew.
