Sorry for the second post but I'm thinking with the realitive newness of my understanding, this area would probably be more appropriate for my question.
As I understand it, extraction rates are measurably higher in low-sec space.
What I cannot find out is how they differ in high sec. Do you find better rates in a 0.5 than you would in 0.6 and above? With the least being in 1.0.
Thanks.

To my knowledge, there is no difference between .5 and 1.0. Hisec planets just have fewer raw materials than lowsec planets which have fewer raw materials than 0.0/wormhole planets. However, low-traffic hisec will definitely have better planets than high-traffic areas, as raw materials on a planet deplete if they are overharvested (which they will be in busy hisec areas). The natural increase in the value of lowsec/0.0 planets is thus further exacerbated by the low population density of those areas.

Edited by: Baneken on 29/01/2011 16:46:07 Actually there isn't over harvesting or rather it's not a real factor as it just really means that everyone and their mother go for the 'sweet spots' which means there a fewer sweet spots to mine from (you have to be from a certain distance from other players harvesters). Biggest difference between sec statuses is how large those sweet spots are for example if you look at today's dev blog which shows a null sec planet. First thing you'll notice is how huge that sweet spot is to fit several maximised extractor heads (in high sec your lucky to get even one extractor head entirely inside the sweet spot), second is the yield which gives as much as regular high sec planet harvests in two weeks (and that program is just for one day cycle, hence the small circles).
Planets have varying amounts of resources even in the same solar system so doing some scouting first is recommended but mainly low sec has about 3/4th of low sec yields and null sec often has 4 times as much yield as high sec planet.

My 0.5 does not produce appreciably different results than my 0.6 system or my 0.7 system.
My 0.3 systems produce quite noticeably more than my high sec systems.
I suspect there is no real difference between the various high sec systems.
The BIGGEST thing you should look for among high sec planets is a small radius. That will make a notable difference to your planetary endeavors, and can vary widely.

I am almost certain this is not true. Untapped resources grow in quantity overtime, and overharvested resources drop.
