Too. Much. Make up.
Smile is too unnatural. If you were going for your old portrait (cant imagine why as old portraits were generic as hell apart from ridiculous apparatus) this is too much deviation from it.
If you think your portrait really is important enough for another thread in an ocean of barbie make up thread, at least make it worthwhile to look at :p
That is all.

I'm not going to judge your looks. You know what you want to look like and whether or not I agree or disagree is moot.
I will say that technically, you did a fine job. You managed a background to frame the portrait nicely. You didn't cut off half your head to cram in a boob shot and the lighting, although not dramatic, works for the portrait.
I do find it kind of sad though, that you in particular, and plenty of others in general are so insecure that they need to post in an internet spaceship forum begging for someone to tell them they are good at making pretty pictures of themselves.

Don't worry, honey, I'm sure every first-year art major sucks.

IMO: - Too much lip gloss / lipstick in general (stands out like a sore thumb to me) - Mouth looks a little high/Chin stands out too much - Facial expressions are disjointed (bottom of face looks happy, top of face looks sad)
Little experiment: Hold your hand out so that it covers the bottom half of the face and then do the opposite and tell me if you notice anything. (maybe it's just me)

Hahahaha!! That was epic!! Not a lol-worthy as the OP's "art student" attempt at a portrait, but still lol-worthy!!

Originally by: Siigari Kitawa I have finished.
Siigari is complete. Hopefully, it no longer looks like I have the face of a chronic hemorrhoid sufferer.
Being an art major in college, I actually didn't take portrait photography. I studied a lot of music. Way back in high school, I took pictures for my senior yearbook, and also did a lot of production photo work on the side. I never had much control over the lighting, however, so many of my pictures needed a lot of time in the dark room dodging and burning to get effects I wanted.
Man I miss that dark room. That was a fun place where I could spend my free time just developing photos and printing my great stuff.
I love my photo.
(on a sidenote, in-game the photo is VERY aliased. But other 32px portraits in-game, and my portrait in the browser it is very smooth. Thoughts?)
Quite a good picture Siigari!
Took me 3 creations to get a character I am satisfied with too! First time I created a character that looked drunk. Second time - the time we got a free creation - my chaarcter was OK but seemed to disappear from the picture. And then I got a third re-creation because my character only wore a jacked and no shirt. And with the third creation I got my character "right" I think. So all inn all, I think it took me 5 or 6 hours of trying and failing! And that is effective hours! Still, I wish he could look like my old character just fancied up a bit. (old portrait can be seen in signature)
Character creation IS serious business!

Ok, it's "nice", but four days... does that mean 3 days of hard drinking after the update and coming home then on the last day waking up with a horrible hangover and doing the avatar in 1h? If not, then...that's bad.
