No. That would be account sharing, and that is prohibited by the EULA. its not smart for you either, because if he ever wanted to come back, he might reclaim it or get it banned in the process.
No, the smart thing to do is to have your friend transfer the character from his account to yours by using the tool in account settings. The fee is 20 dollar though, paid by your friend.

ThatÆs kind of like walking into a bank and asking them if itÆs against the law to rob them.

Edited by: Commander Amy Stewart on 29/01/2011 23:07:13 Even if it's "against the rules" I just wonder how's CCP going to find out that it's actually another player and no someone that just moved house? And how are they ever going to prove that?

The question is, why would they want to find out?
After all, they do like to make money (as IÆm constantly reminded).
Also, it depends on how you pay for your account. If you use a credit card like me it would be pretty easy to figure out whoÆs using the account (IP Address).

Yes, they like money. And thats partly why they impose these rules, since lots of the account sharings ends up being petitioned by the Seller/giver as "lost" and who now wants to reclaim it. That mean CCP have to put into it maybe hours of research to find out if theres a claim on the accusation. Now, I dont know how much you guys earn in your job, but putting a person to research the claims for lets say an hour or two, can be priced to like 20-40 dollars per hour? So just to find out if theres a claim in the accusation they will have to spend just as much money as 6-12 months subscription time... And if that happens frequently (and I know it does afer reading these forums...) we are speaking a lot of losses for CCP to.
So why do ccp wants to limit account sharing? to reduce your losses and their losses.

Summarized: ask yourself how good a friend he is before you take over his account!

This is perfectly legitimate. I got my 2nd account this way as did many other players most likely. As long as CCP get a sub out of it they don't mind. ------------------------------------------------ Quafe is people! |

...but if you do this make sure to first say "hypothetically, is it against the law to rob your bank?". then whistle nonchalently while looking up at the ceiling so they might not catch on.
