I'm just confused on why anyone would ask for $1.5B in capital they don't need, then insist that it sit there and do nothing in the form of cash on their balance sheet, while paying a dividend on it?
I suppose there are reasons for that (IE, the collateral effect) but essentially, capital should be employed and not held idle. If it isn't making money then the return on that equity would be zero. In this instance, this capital should be used to either improve the efficiency of existing operations or to hire more pilots.
Also, income and capital transactions shouldn't be comingled, there should be seperate statements for both. That is, a balance sheet to show assets and an income statement to address operations. The capital inflow would simply show up on the balance sheet as shareholder equity. Meanwhile, there should be a seperate income statement showing income minus expenses to arrive at a cash flow amount.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling about accounting, I hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments.
The 1.5 bn capital will in fact be actively used. We are still trying to hire more pilots in this phase and will continue to pay new pilots a bonus and this could bring the NAV below 1.5 bn. And in the long term we also have expenses to insurance to pilots. Insurance comes from pilots own fees, but if 6 months from now a pilot can claim e.g. 1 bn in insurance, that would be paid from the 1.5 bn cushion.
Regarding accounting, since we have just 2-3 different expense and income posts, it's not too difficult to see which is which. ----------------------- "Signatures" trade chatroom / Universal Railways |

In other news, the shareholder vote ended unanimously in favor of increasing the working NAV to 1.5 bn. I did not vote with my own shares and the corp shares were not used in the vote.
This means that from March 1 dividends will be paid out as 50 % of what isk we have above 1.5 bn. ----------------------- "Signatures" trade chatroom / Universal Railways |
