Now i'm Amarr so my experience with missiles is very limited but Khanid ships are just so damn cool that i wanted to cross train into missiles as well. I see in most of the battle clinic load outs for the Sacrilege and Curse ships use heavy assault missiles instead of heavy missiles which have greater range. Is the faster firing rate that much better than having range even in missions? Thanks. |

The Sacrilege has a bonus to Heavy Assault Missiles, and no bonus to Heavy Missiles. The weapon systems are different. The same is true for a HAM Legion.
As far as I know, up to Command Ships the Khanid design is fast-firing close range missiles. The Vengeance, for example, has ab onus to rockets, the Sac has a bonus to HAMs, the subsystem has a HAM bonus for the Legion, as does the Damnation. |

HAM's are best used in PvP, where you can get up in your target's face. For PvE Mission running use Heavy Missiles. The rate of fire you get with HAM's is nice, but you would literally have to tackle and web everything in a mission for them to be effective.
Think; Rockets < HAM's < Torpedoes
They are basically unguided rockets with Heavy warheads. Rate of fire is better, but basic damage per round is about the same, and the range is almost as bad as Torps.

I tried HAM's once and left it there, the range is soooo disappointing. Maybe they have a use, but i rather use heavy missiles. On drake or sacrilege, either way

HAM launchers have a higher rate of fire, but HAMs have a lower volley damage. Overall, for mission running, the dps output is greater using HAMs, but you burn through a LOT more missiles. And you have to get close, so make sure you're fast and small, and reasonably well-tanked. With HAMs, you can't snipe.
HAMs are designed to hit smaller targets, and like others have said, are mostly aimed toward PVP encounters.

LMAO its true...thats what I have to do. On the flip side it doesnt' take much for my Sac to reach 1500km, so tackeling is cumbersum in a mission, but dooable.
