So I took on some R&D agents for little datacore profit, but what datacore types have the highest market demand? or are there so many researchers out there that doesn't matter what kind of datacores you're selling? Is research/invention a viable profession choice, taking into account the long skill queue? |

You'll probably want to do your own market research on demand.
Invention is essentially luck in short term samples. It really depends on what you want out of it. As for the literal definition of viable, yeah, you'll eventually turn a profit on the skill books you bought, and you'll have to put your own value on the time you didn't spend training for something else. Your own activities and the level of income you need will determine if it's worth it to try. Once you're setup, datacore sales are essentially passive income from what I understand.

Mechanical Engineering. Used for ships and Hammerheads. Accept no substitutes. --- Some days you are the pigeon, and some the statue. |

^^ This
Datacores used for ships tend to have consistent demand.
Don't put all your eggs in one basket. I've seen prices on some datacores go through some drastic swings. I would recommend at least 2 different types.

Edited by: gtiness on 03/02/2011 15:45:26 Research / Invention / T2 manufacturing is indeed 'viable'.
You should pay for your skills in about a week. Maybe two depending on how much you log in.
The trick with this is: just because research/invention/t2 building are viable DOES NOT mean that every T2 product is profitable all of the time.
Setting up a very easy to use cost calculator is important. And keeping up with your markets is key.
If you're just going research and invention...I'm not sure who is going to buy your T2 BPCs in any kind of consistent way.

the worst part about the getting datacores is grinding standings. after you get that bit done, it's an isk factory. still, if you're an industrialist you'll be wsanting to grind standings to eliminate tax of refining, so you'll get something else besides datacores out of it.

If you know what you're doing and do your homework FIRST, sure.
