I am writing this on behalf of my son. He is so interested in playing eve that I cannot say no. After paying his xbox live subscription and micro transactions for some unnamed games, I would perfer that he make enough isk in the 21 day recruit a friend trial to pay his own plex. I found the Explorers almanac, and created a new toon to see if it worked and it did. 300 mil on day one as a matter of fact. My son is not so much into exploration so I was wondering. As a brand new player, is there any other career path that could pull in 350mil average that plex's cost in 21 days?

Any career that takes more brains than skillpoints, such as trade, sometimes exploration, and scamming. Stuff every rookie does like low lvl missions and mining won't pay enough.

300 mil on day one with little to no skill points is extremely good, and I would say very very rare. The game mechanics could have changed since I started in 2005, but I wouldnt count on making that much regularly until you have 30 million ish plus skill points.

On a new character it would be very challenging. One reason is because in order to play the game you have to buy stuff such as ships and modules which are lost and need replaced when your ship is destroyed. Thus playing Eve is a money( isk) sink as well. It is possible to make lots of isk in a month on here. As a new character your son would have to spend a lot of time on eve grinding to make isk to pay for the plex. Once you get skilled up, you still have a time investment but it is easier to make the isk as well was faster.
*Trading/ playing the market- Eve economy is player driven, money can be made in trading if you know what your doing. Requires: Know how( for an adult shouldnt be a problem for a kid might be), trading skills, decent size isk investment, risky( like the stock market). Profits: Can easily make in the billions a month if you do it right with very little in game skills( i do it on a 1.4 mil sp character)
*Level 4 missions - Missions are repetitive grindfest. They are also the best high sec( safe space) non trading isk/ hr pay rate. Requires: Both skills in the ships and skills in support (skills), so rather skill intensive( no you cant do it in 21 days). requires decent ships to make decent money so 10s to 100s of million per ship( if you lose one you have to buy a new one). Requires grinding standings( standings are used to gain access to higher level agents that pay more isk) Profits: up to 50 mil an hour on a well skilled character( but in reality it is closer to 20-30 mil an hour unless you are specced for mission grinding and do it in the most efficient way possible)
* 0.0 belt ratting- 0.0 is outlaw space ran by players with no " political" rules.can be quite dangerous. Requirements: 0.0 rats require decent combat skills. 0.0 Access requires being in an alliance that holds or rents space( unless you like losing ships often). 0.0 alliance often have a min skillpoint requirement as well as other requirements. Profits: 20-30 mil/hr ratting casually in decent space with a decent ship. Up to 60-70 mil/hr in prime systems, chaining rats, in a gank ship.
* Exploration/ anomalies.- Some of the biggest not scam pay offs in the game. These sites can hold high value gear that can be sold for enough sometimes to buy several plexes. Though when you do find a site it is much like paying the lottery on the pay off( minus normal rat bounties) Payouts range from low payouts for high sec to large payouts for 0.0( outlaw space). Requires: Good combat skills ( like level 4 missions).A good ship that can " tank" large groups of rats. Probing skills, secondary skills that you can get by but increase profits are hacking, archeolgy , salvaging. Requires much of the same as missioning except needs probing skills. Good paying sites require 0.0 access.Profit: bounties( 0.0 space): 30-70 mil an hour once site has been found. Potential for faction/deadspace/officer gear payout ranging from a couple of million to multi billions.
*Ninja salvaging - Stealing other players salvage while they mission. This is a legal profession though it agravates many carebears. You simply set up a salvage ship and learn to probe for ships. You find mission runners and run around and salvage their rat wrecks( dont loot them or it flags you and they can shoot you). Requirements: A fast ship that has a decent amount of high slots ( Many t1 frigs work pretty decently at this), Salvaging skills, Probing skills. Profits: Vary widely depending on how good/fast you are. You could make 20 mil plus an hour or nothing. Requires the least amount of skills besides trading.
Honestly you need to invest about 3-6 months worth of subscriptions before you can really make enough money to afford gear and plexes both. Even then he will have to spend a decent amount of time playing more than likely to afford plexes.

300 mil isk is very rare, i should add that the next week i diddnt break 5 mil a day on radar sites. I had him join up with a lvl 4 mission running corp, to see if he could maybe do it that way by listening to the fc and waiting unit aggro is gained. I stand by the fact that a new player could pay the plex by radar sites alone but concede to the fact that it takes alot of patience to do, and a new player wanting to see the ins and outs of eve may want more.

Edited by: Cygnus Zhada on 04/02/2011 11:13:40 Here's a completely different approach:
Apart from flukes it's quite difficult to make enough isk to pay for a month's plex without grinding for it. Unless you're higher SP, resort to scamming or tag along salvaging other people's missions (ninja salvaging included).
Lets say that he would make 15 mil/hour which for a low SP character is quite good. That means he'd have to carebear 23 hours a month to make that 350 mil isk to buy his Plex. Those 23 hours, while game time, are mandatory and as such become boring and tedious. Don't know his age but to me it would seem a whole lot better if he would do some real life chores/simple part time job to pay for the 15 Euro. That'll take him like 3 hours or so.
End result: less grinding needed, more free game time to do what he wants rather than having to slave for a plex.

Teach him to get a real job to earn his keep and through compounding his experience in eve eventually having that pay for itself (And once his experience and character grow this will require far less time and also leaving time for his actual responsibilities). Too young to work? Arrange chores or such if possible. Make him choose between which entertainment he would rather (Xbox - EvE). Really not my place but I don't think an child should be put through that much to play as it seems to send the wrong message of both responsibility and priority. Seems like setting him up for a life behind the screen and I'm sure his future girlfriend (or boyfriend) would rather him make sme USD rather than ISK.
Not meant offesively so please do not take it as such. Just another perspective as I know with my own children even small things can have a big impact.

Yeah, not going to happen. Your son has little to no motivation to do that. Frankly, I don't actually believe you made that much isk with a new character, either.
Why not do what parents have been doing for countless generations when their kids want something they can't afford? Either tell him no, or tell him to earn the money himself. Eve subscriptions are cheap - pay him to take out the trash or clean the house or shovel snow, or something like that. He'll easily be able to earn enough to play Eve if that's what he really wants.
Plus, there's a lot more motivation to earn enough isk to buy PLEX if the alternative is shoveling snow and dusting.

350m in 21 days as no sp noob? Scamming. Salvaging is what, only about 10m/h? Not good enough.

Why not? Average 10m/h for an average two hours per day is 42 mill.
OP: If you play eve, you are being harsh on your child. If you subscribe them with a Plex that's 30 days of free time to you, so no cost. So they should get 51 days grace, not 21. __________________________________________________ Player Since 2005 Over 4000 hours logged

Good point. Well said.

After 51 days, it's very easy to get into L4s (with good skill plan) and farm 350mil. Couple days in a month and he will have it.
