Apparently, more than once, and by different people. I keep being told that I looke like Grace Park. Wasn't intending to do it, but I'm not exactly disappointed in the comparison.

I see your point. In truth, some of the really ugly ones kind of make me laugh, even if the players who made them spent all of one minutes in the character creator. At a certain point, however, it does feel like if you've seen one of these, you may as well have seen them all.
To answer egegergergsdgedgege's question, the results list is a random collection of high scoring avatars, and that was pretty much so that people wouldn't necessarily feel that they're in competition with everybody else for bragging rights the way it works with some of the other avatar sites. Having a high score is its own reward, and I didn't want people to have to concern themselves with their characters falling out of the top 10, or whatever. Some of what I consider to be the best avatars actually float somewhere in the 70% range for attributes.
As long as I'm posting, I might as well mention that I've been playing with my match-up algorithm to attempt to produce more interesting face-offs. A lot of it is still random, but I've got a few ideas either implemented or in my head for producing more meaningful results for characters.

I'm thinking to try out a new feature. Does anybody have an attribute they want to challenge? Maybe you feel as though you've just gotten bad luck in the draws, and your character really isn't as ugly/creepy/unrealistic as your character sheet is reporting? I'm looking for a guinea pig.

Lovely. Next time you check your character sheet, you should find some new tracking data. The voting window is open for 7 days, and the question will appear randomly while playing the game: "Is Crumplecorn ugly?"
I'll decide later what action to take if it turns out you have a positive balance of "no" votes.
Thanks again for volunteering.

I know that I have repeatedly skipped over you or voted for the other character if they qualify as ugly in my mind .
I just don't want to give credit to people who've done slapdash stuff on a character they might hardly play. (Your name didn't help my gut instinct there)
I don't think you should necessarily be eliminated from the database arbitrarily...but thats a developer decision to what degree he wants to have a more subjective input to enhance the percieved integrity of the majority of his users. (thats a content decision...and as long as he doesn't puport it to be entirely mechanical (and the ways polls work , even the framing of questions largely steers the results)he's being straight forward.

Why would you purposely want to win most ugly? There's really no talent in that. It's honestly a disgrace to this great 3D Avatar program CCP has given us.
It's not a beauty contest, it's just a site where you rate stuff. There's sometimes a lot of art in making a genuinely ugly, but still realistic looking avatar.
I wasn't going for ugly btw, it's just how I turned out

Funny, I don't find you ugly at all.. maybe even attractive. You have balanced features and don't look like a bad person at all, just one that doesn't suffer fools ... like some idiot you don't want to look at taking your picture.
My idea of attractive is more like, if you had a room of 100 people and had to split into groups of 8, which ones would you like to have in your group...who were you attracted too. I'd probably combine that with, who'd I mind like to get intimate with (on the female side) or maybe who might be worthy of a favored actress in a movie love seen on the male side.
As for ugly... while i read the description , i'm not with it entirely. Weird, or bizare aren't ugly to me...they just defy rating at anything because they're a pile of crap (for me). I need to be able to think of a personality type that makes the character real enough, then I'd think, if he/she were a holding a seminar.. would I just hate looking at them so much I wanted to leave . They need to be sort of uncharismtatic and have some homely looks too.
Thats the way i see it at least..
I'd definitely like to sit next to you on an airplane...you look intelligent enough and you wouldn'd gross me out if I watchged you eating....attractive

Well, I'm quite sure Razor wasn't referring to avatars like yours, but rather to avatars that are obvious attempts to give as little care as possible to the character creation process and still reap a high score.
All of these stats are pretty iffy. I've got an avatar up there (not this one) who would probably be a Hollywood movie star in real life, and for some reason, he's up in the 40% zone for ugliness. So the only thing sites like this prove is that people who play online games have a really high threshold for attractiveness. And it doesn't help, either, that 8 out of 10 times you're probably coming up against a supermodel.

One pet peeve that keeps occurring, when I've selected something from a list to view in more detail I usually press the back button on my mouse when I'm done and I'm sent to the previous site I was viewing and not back to the previous "face-off" frame that held the list of people for example. Instead just habitually pressing "back" I need to reselect the main category and scroll back to where ever I were before... Is it possible to make it so that you can return to the previous view (frame) and not totally jump to what ever other site you were visiting before one entered your site? |

To be honest, that bothers me, as well. It's one of the major drawbacks of handling all of the page loads with AJAX. I do have an idea to allow the site to maintain a limited history of pages you've viewed. It would continue to preclude the use of the back button in favor of some sort of custom control, but maybe that's okay if it accomplishes what it needs to and users can figure it out.
I started working on this site as a learning experience, and I keep learning things. If I have any time today, I'll see what I can do.

I've implemented some forward and back buttons that should reveal themselves once you've moved beyond your first page. Don't think that you can use these buttons to vote twice, because it doesn't work. If you try it, you won't get a notice stating that your second vote is being discarded (I'll add one), but you'll see for yourself that it doesn't budge the results.
I'm only letting the site keep a history of about five pages, so just keep that in mind.

Wow. Good call. I wonder why I didn't think of that one. It's added.

Nah, it probably got caught. Check the character sheet for that character and see what it says next to her race.

Well, you won't get into the attractiveness/ugliness rotation until the avatar's sex has been confirmed. Specifying a sex is only the first step. It has to be confirmed either by another player or by me. I know this probably sounds irrationally paranoid, but even with that extra step, people still try to get avatars in under a false sex. Don't ask me why.
The bigger frustration is that the EVE API doesn't simply contain information about the character's sex.

Justinius Augustus, this brings up something I wanted to ask:
Do you plan on ever removing avatars you come across that are blatantly crap? You know, avatars like this "egegergergsdgedgege" fellow for example. Who have no talent for making a real avatar so they just become an attention-freak by making a super messed up avatar that took them like 5 seconds to create. It's obvious that the people who submit extremely terrible alts are simply trolls who want to ruin your great website. So could you pretty please remove avatars that are so horrible whenever you come across them? Please... (I hate trolls -.-)
Honestly, those troll avatars may as well be blank portraits. There's no difference in my book. And you already remove blank portraits. So just add trolls to that removal process of yours. =)
I worked for hours on that avatar. In fact its very easy to make an good looking char but the posibility for real uglyness are rather limited. I would have loved to do a really fat avatar, but females in the character creator only go from anorexic to below normal wieght., which is rather stupid. Have a look around you. There are plenty of really ugly people. So why not have an ugly char?

Thats fair enough.. and I'm sorry to sugest otherwise.. guess I could have looked you up.
Still, in my mind... you just don't fit "ugly" more "grotesque" ... "ugly" to me feels like a bad example of a given look . The description on the site would include what you did but it just doesn't fit my gut impression. As the char creator makes human's and only if you push it to warped levels does it make something else.. what I want to see is someone who makes a very realistic character that is well, like people I'd meet at work where their natural looks would be so bad that they'd make it hard for me to watch them teaching a seminar
Similary, my idea of "funny" is a guy that makes me smile.. probably needs to be fairly attractive like a comedian... Steve Martin or John Belushi..for example.. you can imagine many screen shots that made you smile.... half the charaters beind put up as funny are just warped... I really don't want to look at them.. they don't make me smile..
Obviously, other people will have different opinions on this, but I'm consistenet... similar with intimidating , attactive etc.
A guy with perfect good looks but looks like he's full of himself is far from attractive ...at least he'd be less atrractive than someone with half a step down features but nice eyes and a charismatic smile(fine line between cheese and genuine there but you can see it) . Same with a girl that has perfect features bue looks like she's o-tr. The need to look like someone I'd want to be with.. or that I'd put forward as a spokesman for my company etc .
Sean Connery or Harrison Ford (for him when he was younger) didn't just have strong featuress, they had twinkles in their eyes and wry smiles that made them attractive. I've got a crush on Holly Hunter and think she was one of the most attractive around ... Sexy might carry the day.. but elegant might also, but how they bear their head and what you see in their eyes for either helps .

Akita's character is a good example of someone I'd mark higher in attractiveness than a slew of the asianish girls with glazed over eyes and too much make-up (almost looked like manequins).
Now, I wouldn't but Akita up in the top 10% of attractiveness ... but she's well above average despite what you can picture as a far less than pefect body. Now she's NOT attractive enough to have me put her above some of the sexier models that I'd like to see nekid who also had something in their eyes that was intriguing
... and "nice" isn't necessary... maybe "smart" or "interesting" is needed for me or not quite sure...there were more than a few vilanish female characters that would definitely "draw me in" and make me very interested and rank tops in attractiveness despite perhaps some evil-ness . (crack that whip baby ! he he) Smart and self assured go a long way with making someone attractive.
Envy, and Vanity (basically insecurities) are such ugly traits that theye can overcome some nice features and make you want to look away.
