Hey guys, noobish question? probably.. :P
I know that each type of turret has a short range/high dps and a long range varient (rails/Blasters)
I use hybrids and it takes me 10 seconds to change ammo types or reload but ive seen my mate reload instantly with lasers and crystals and he only carries enough crystals to replace the ones in his turrets rather than carrying x amount of hybrid charges.
so what is the drawback of lasers over the other flavour of turrets?

- very low tracking at short ranges
- bad damage type (not really true anymore due to popularity of shield fits in pvp)
- cap hungry (cap boosters can be considered ammo)

I've never thought em was really "bad damage type" due to omnitanking in pvp being so popular.

Well, its the worst damage type against standard armor buffertanks. For the typical RR BS fittings or armor buffer BC fittings (damage control, plates, 2 eanms) that means lower real damage output.
Especially if you are shooting lasers against minmatar armor buffer fittings.
But as I said, its not really true anymore, shields are very popular on the battlecruiser level, and the damage spread is great there. So you get 'bad' damage type against armor, but 'good' damage against shields, kinda evens it out in the end.
It used to be a real drawback (although most people didnt realize it) when armor RR BS where all the rage.

Clip sizes are different now. Back in the day, and of course still true.. time spent reloading is time spent doing zero dps. Some dps is better than zero dps.. and when it comes to large scale battles, popping is a boom-boom instant occurance.. reloading = out of KMs, and this matters to quite a few people.
Also back then, TEs weren't TEs.. and missing was more frequent and hurt a lot more, because of the very limited clips and falloff curve. ---------------------------------------- Treat the EVE markets like you are its Pimp.. it is your 'willing' employee to fondle n use n abuse as you please. |

Assuming before the projectile boost and the SC boost, Amarr ships usually made up for inferior damage selection by the fact they just did more damage past 20km than all other flavors of RR BS.

None, for true. ATM hybrids suck hard at all points whenever you put another weapon system/ship in the exact same situation.

Ok, I want a ship to inflict massive damage onto a small stationary target. The object is standing still so I can dictate range entirely. Any suggestions?
I also want a small frigate with as high damage as possible. Any suggestions? Parrots, commence!
