Assuming no harderners(or kinetic/explosive only and no DC) it'd take 6 nightmares on average. Assuming it's running sansha/blood missions and using a DC II it'd take 15. All assuming 4 heat sinks, no implants, max skills IN MF. Parrots, commence!

1. use tempest
2. T2 fitted, each nightmare can do up to 6k dmg per volley. depending on fit, a t2 raven can have anywhere from 35K to 120K EHP (therm, EM dmg). Which means 20 or so nightmares will do the job. |

Few pointers
1) Use officer fit, so it may require a couple less nightmares
2) Do it in highsec, so your pod will be safe from doomsdays
Let me know in advance, I'll come take a look in a hauler if you're doing it right

I assume he is not suicide ganking in Nightmares. I'd say that chances are he's almost certainly looking to kill war dec'ed mission runners. That said, I'd bring 4-6 and hope to get 2-3 volleys off before they dock. But, the more the merrier if you're trying to instapop them!

well, tbh if you wanna alpha people in any situation i just completely fail to see the point in using a nightmare unless it's for some RP reason

Are you aware of the definition of "alpha strike" in online gaming?
To me it looks like you think it means destroying a target in 1 salvo, its not. Alpha strike means dealing a significant ammount of damage the first time so the target is unable to survive or come up with a counter in time.

Most people probably know what it means, but in Eve it's generally used to describe destroying a target in one volley.

alpha/ alpha strike = significant volley damage, low RoF to alpha = to kill in one volley
at least that was my understanding :)

Well "Alpha Strike" is battletech terminology meaning to fire all your weapons at once, so really every time we hit F1 we are "alpha striking" because EVE doesn't have a ton of weapon systems per ship like a Mech does.
In the context of EVE "Alpha Strike" = volley damage, and "to alpha someone" would mean "to kill in one volley"
In Mechwarrior the alphastrike was either your opener or your finisher depending on your mech, because typically firing everything at once caused some huge heating problems, especially with inner sphere beam weapons...
BTW, Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries anyone? Hit me up in game if you want to play, I have the game and PR1 installed, joystick plugged in... Just waiting for opponents!
