So, what are CCP's thoughts on this?
Not that I take it seriously myself, but I'm curious as to what the developers think of it. --

Voters are free to vote for whomever they choose from the approved candidates. If voters wish to vote in line with a bloc, that is their decision to do so. The system is however set up so that it shouldn't be possible to ensure that someone voted for a particular person. _______________ CCP Diagoras Research and Statistics |

The only way for that to make sense is if voting were anonymised for the entirety of the process.
What exactly do you mean? Does it mean you removed the ability to spam channels with direct voting links that often tricked people into a vote? Or that the list with candidates is randomised for every visit?

It means one needs to be logged in on the webpage for the vote to happen, and that means you can't vote by proxy, relay or anything unless you give your usernames and passwords to someone else.
In essence, anyone can vote for anyone and still claim they voted for someone else if they so want. Ie, there's no way for an alliance leader to force his members to vote for a particular candidate.
Also, direct voting links aren't really tricks, since they lead you to a page that says "do you want to vote for Candidate X" with YES or CANCEL buttons below. ----- Member of CSM 2, 3, 4 and 5. Feel free to contact me with queries. Convo, evemail or join the "meissaCSM" in-game channel. |

By "No Democracy" it referenced the way Goonswarm chose their intended delegates in the past. We used to have an internal vote then encouraged our members to vote for whoever won those votes. This time around we're selecting who we'd like our people to vote for ahead of time i.e. No Democracy.
You see when people copy/paste things from other groups internal forums they lose context and the intent of those statements change radically as a result.

The funny thing about the GoonTestNC/NullsecBearsNeedJB campaign is that if the hisec bears and lowsec pirates do a good enough job publicizing *the conspiracy*, they may be able to effect the most empire/pirate-centric CSM ever.
Traditionally, empire dwellers don't vote.

It's amazing how many people go "I like the game as it is, I don't see why I should vote". Or don't even KNOW about the CSM at all, though that's changing. ----- Member of CSM 2, 3, 4 and 5. Feel free to contact me with queries. Convo, evemail or join the "meissaCSM" in-game channel. |

Edited by: Linna Excel on 09/02/2011 03:00:13 I thought about applying for a minute, realized the indignity one must suffer in the US to get on an airplane, decided against applying. If the meetings were stateside I'd consider it further.
I wish wisdom to whoever gets in as luck can be good or bad.
PS. IMO we need at least one person from a newbie corp and no more than one person per alliance.

Why bother, some folks have served on almost every CSM....so why even have a vote. The slice of the player base that can get approved is relatively small. Most working and family people cannot take time off several times a year to travel to Iceland, and thus the CSM does not really reflect the people playing the game. Thus the pool of applicants is far to small to get a real reflection of the playerbase by it.

right around finals week
may I suggest moving the May meeting to June and the December meeting to November or January.

I feel it must be a stupid question, since no one else has asked whether the flight is covered by CCP? Depending on where you live that can be a lot of money to fork out.

Because nothing says you couldn't possibly do a better job than them (or me), or at the least convince people that this is the case. Either way there's less people getting elected multiple times than you'd believe. In the past 5 CSMs: - 2 people got in 3 times as main - 9 People who got in twice as main So that's about 1/3rd of the seats taken by people who had been elected before.
It's true that one has to have spare time to allocate to this, but that's a question of personal priorities.
Even then, the CSM has done quite a good job of representing all players, even the casual ones (advocated for by others...)

CCP covers flight, hotel and part of the food while there, drinks are on you. But it's frankly no vacation. Meetings are held between 9ish and 18ish, then discussions usually continue after hours with devs who join the CSM for meals. ----- Member of CSM 2, 3, 4 and 5. Feel free to contact me with queries. To give an official response to this as this has been asked a couple of times in e-mail also; the following expenses are covered by CCP:
- Flight costs from wherever you happen to live.
- Hotel costs for all nights that are required. Members can choose to prolong their stay but they must cover additional hotel expenses.
- We book a hotel within easy walking distance of CCP. If a member is unable to walk this distance or there are other issues that cause this not to be possible, we will cover local taxi expenses.
- Meals on the days of the meetings. Breakfast is available both at CCP and the hotel, lunch at CCP and dinner either at restaurants or CCP.
- Travel to and from the airport within Iceland.
Evening drinks, meals on days other than the summit days and any touristy activities have to be covered by the member however. _______________ CCP Diagoras Research and Statistics |
