Battlefield 1942 to Battlefield (Insert latest version) has always had prone, Bad Company 2 didn't have prone (Not played 1 so I don't know). Bad Company has a different play style to the regular Battlefield series.
Battlefield 3, being the real sequel to Battlefield 2 carries on with the more traditional gameplay style, including prone.
CoD 1 - 4 have always had prone too, not sure about any after that as I haven't played them.

Yeah I was referring to the CoD without prone comment. MW:2 and Black Ops both have prone as well. I'm sure WaW had it too.
I was unaware the other Battlefield's had prone, my only experience was BFBC2, which was one of the major things I didn't like about BFBC2 (as noted on page 1). - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

I got BC2 last night while I was tripping out on my sleep meds (I haz prescription) and found out I got it this morning. I really like it, especially the Vietnam expansion I apparently bought too

Oh and im redownloading BF2 on steam now, put me in the mood for it :| :| :| :|
It's not like BC2. For one, PC version seems to be the main focus, with maps and content specially made for it. Also, 64 player maps are back. Since consoles are still limited at 24 players, i suspect they're not getting any of the large PC maps at all.
I'm looking forward to Karkand without fog :>

Every Battlefield game so far has had bullet physics, i don't expect BF3 to be any different. I do suspect that they toned down destruction to only destroy walls etc, not letting buildings collapse, which is a major strain on servers in multiplayer and a big reason why there's so little variety in buildings in BC2.

I am looking forwards to having much more room for flying choppers. But I do hope they do not have target painters for the missiles again. That is my single biggest hate in BC2.

My one hate is on the Vietnam expansion on Operation Hastings where you have 1 NVA guy who somehow gets a Huey spawned at a flag and camps the US spawn. As there are no handheld AA weapons and no AA guns on the map it gets tedious

Actually according to a recent interview, with all the progress they've made in shaping Frostbite 2.0 engine for BF3, there's going to be a lot more destruction, collapsing buildings included. The destruction will also be realistic, for example an RPG hitting a building will cause nearby windows to shatter with the blastwave
They've also apparently noted their lack of environmental detail in the previous games and have made a huge effort to make maps a lot more... 'real'.
Trying not to be too excited but it looks like it could shape up really well.

But I came back with BC2 and had a hell of a lot of fun, so I'm hoping it'll be similar but with BF 1942/BF2 gameplay. I miss 64 players.
The said PC version will be 64 player
Hope they bring back the 1942 feel though, best one of the lot imho
2142 for me. Titan mode was like an enhanced planetside, I loved it when both titans came along side eachother and boarding actions
almost everyone in IDLE played 2142, was lots of fun all going and jumping on the same server
I think my favorite thing in that game was landing a jump pod on someones head

A friend said there is not going to be a commander mode, haven't looked into it myself, but it would be a shame if this wasn't part of the multi-player.

I disagree - Choppers and jets in BF2 were far too overpowered. With Gulf coming back i still have nightmares about the MEC spawn being camped to death by nearly every vehicle on the map and J10's completely owning Wake.
Tracers are a choice infantry can make, a choice very few people actually do make though. I'm usually the only one in a 32-player server who takes them, maybe one or two others across both teams, and only when i'm playing engineer. It also takes a bit of skill to actually hit a decent chopper pilot with a tracer.
There are only so many vehicles on any given map. Quite frankly it seems like a pretty stupid idea to put 8 vehicles on a 64 player map which are able to own it completely and leave the other 56 players hanging out as 'targets'. Vehicles should be good, but (especially flying) vehicles should not be the pwnmobiles they were in BF2, and tracers are a good solution for this. Even though many people complain about them being nerfed to hell in BC2, it's just that they require a bit more skill to use effectively. A tank with a driver, gunner and 3rd engineer for support can't be taken down by 1 infantry, you'll need 2 or 3 engineers (depending on perks and explosive choice) to take one of those down. A competently flown chopper in BC2 is still very dangerous - When people who can'y fly them complain about being hit too easily i tend to ignore them. I've seen more than enough of those hovering as still as possible, being shot down (without a tracer even sometimes), and then complaining that choppers can be downed too easily.

Another FPS marketing itself on it's military theme and brand new "awesome" graphics engine?
Who would've thought.
I got burned out on FPS's after the PS3 and 360 came out and everyone started cluster ****ing their brand spankin' new FPS's at the same time, claiming how awesome they were, started a ton of hype, and then they come out and what do we have? A half-assed game with barely anything worth mentioning.
I do like FPS's, don't get me wrong, but you'll have to excuse me if I don't get hyped up on this one.

You haven't played BF2 then, have you :)

No, and I really don't intend to, tbh. I'm burnt out on this type of FPS.
However, if it comes out and gets raving reviews, then I'll consider it. Until then.. meh.

With all due respect but comparing the battlefield series with the average FPS is a goddamn sin. If you played BF2 on clan level you would know exactly what makes battlefield stand out above the rest.
BC 2 was a good game to. I rly love it's sound effects. Hadn't been from when I played Company of Heroes that I had heard such nice sound effects in a game. (explosion sound effects make me horny ) Gameplay was also good but not on the same lvl as BF 2. It felt a bit consolized but was still a solid game nonetheless, miles above the CoD series.

As Synthica says, Battlefield has always been a little different from most shooters. It seems to have found a happy medium between ultra-realism (original OFP, Arma) and arcade (MW etc) - There's really nothing like it, other than that it is a "military shooter series", but that is in theme only.
If you haven't played any of the Battlefield games, getting Battlefield 2 or 2142 out of the bargain bins (seriously, they're $5 each now) is not a bad idea! :)

Edited by: Selinate on 28/02/2011 17:48:03 And so, CoD fans would say the same of CoD, Medal of Honor fans would say the same thing of Medal of Honor, why shouldn't I assume BF fans would do the same thing for BF?
Like I said, and just like with every other FPS that comes out, unless it gets absolutely rave reviews, I won't bother considering it.
EDIT: And why would I want such an old multiplayer game? I doubt there are many people flooding the servers anymore.

Played both the original CoDs and MoHs online back in the day, quite similar multiplayer experience that you still get with most games now. 32 players or less, various multiplayer modes with team deathmatch being the most popular, both with more focus on single player. Fun but samey.
Battlefield when it first came out was a rare gem, huge maps, lots of players, vehicles, not so hard as flashpoint but still required a good amount of team work and a lot of hilarious happenings if you're playing with friends. There was jus so much that could happen in a single match that at the time just didn't really exist elsewhere. It was a dedicated multiplayer experience and fun as hell. Still played by a few people today.
Battlefield 2 came out and it was pretty amazing, it offered all what the last game had but a lot more refinement into it. There were some things I didn't like about it, mostly to do with EAs greed, but I'd bet the success of BF2 influenced the modern day settings for both CoD and MoH, as all three games were originally WW2 based, but unlike CoD and MoH the sequel to BF1942 wasn't BF1943, it was a modern day battlefield. The one thing I really didn't like about it was that BF2 was a lot easier to pick up, 1942 was a lot less forgiving, but more rewarding.
Anyway, I loved CoD, I loved MoH, but after the first 3 games of those series they completely burnt me out. I mean it was all the same, it still is all the same. From what I've seen of BF3 however, there's a real improvement to the different experience you had with this game which I haven't really found anywhere else since.
Okay it could turn out utter crap, and I don't blame you for waiting with reviews because to be perfectly honest, games really seem to have gone downhill a lot the past years. I'd at least keep your eye on it though, it has the potential to be an awesome online experience

CoD, Medal of Honor and their ilk all rely on set pieces, but nothing else. In terms of gameplay they're basic Counterstrike clones - Hitscan weapons, very fast movement, very little environmental interaction other than cover, no vehicles, small maps in both single and multiplayer.
BF2 is, as i said, somewhere in between the uber-arcade of CoD and co and the ultra realism of ArmA/OFP. It moves somewhat slower, there's weapon physics for every weapon (bullet drop and travel time, for example), vehicles are an integral part of any map and maps are a lot larger, for that matter, leading to much more 'epic' fights. Multiplayer only of course, which brings me to this: The game is still one of the more popular multiplayer games around, even after 5+ years. It also caters to a slightly older audience because it's not as visceral as CoD and co - In that the slower movement and (proper) weapon physics cause one to be more tactical in his game.
Again, the game is $5. I guarantee you that it will be money well spent.

With the quality of the graphics and sound witnessed in that video, add 64 player matches for the PC version,as well as destructible terrain with the ability to knock down buildings up to 7 stories high, does Dust 514 have any chance at all since it's still using the unreal 3 engine, wich is getting a little old and doesn't have destuctible environments at all(engine doesn't support it).

Quoted for the truth. I remember when Joint Ops had 128 players.....and that was like 4 years ago. How sad that consoles are dumbing down PC games. That's why BF3 is the next great hope for PC gaming right now. And DICE know this. They are gonna do gangbusters.

Joint Ops also had no physics worth speaking of, IIRC, making it quite easy on the server.
