How about some of the stuff in game having a simple miniture personality quiz? This way, if it recieves no answer within a certain amound of time, or if there is some sort of strange pattern of answers, it will automatically suspect that the person is a bot and start the test over. Or we can go in a different direction entirely, and just let other players have access to bots, then everyone will stop complaining, and it will be a matter of preference. -- As an Amarr Defector, I chose to become a Mercenary and Industrialist. I also have one goal in mind: Create a new age of peace and prosperity for all four empires. |

Everyone already have access to bots, search Google. Not everyone are greedy/lazy/lame enough to use them though
And those valiant, honourable people will be very, very cross with you if you start adding all kinds of pop-ups that interrupt their game session.
As long as "aiding and abetting" is penalised as harshly as the actual crime then botting will be limited to a slim minority. Probably going to cost CCP a lot of ISK in subscriptions if they do crack down in earnest though so it will likely be a paced behind-the-scenes affair.

No matter what you try, the bot programmers will outsmart it before it even goes live. And any form of popup to check wether I'm a bot or a player would really, really (getting rid of fluid with 4 letters) me off - way more than seeing some barge or hauler mining pathetic amounts of veldspar on a script.

Unless your questions go something like this its not going to work:
In 600 words, discus the role of media between 2000 and 2010 in <country of choice> with current monitory policies in that country. Provide at least 2 examples and 3 sources.
Bots are not the problem, the problem is that mining is boring and should be automated like autopilot. NPC bots can be banned right now by CCP they just choose not to or donĘt advertise the fact that they do.

My final solution to the bot problem.
Every single sun in Eve goes supernova.
Everyone dies. Server shuts down. CCP closes it's doors. Everyone finally breathes a sigh of relief that they can now finally enjoy the game.
Um hang on a moment ...

Frankly, after reading all of the recent threads on botting I have had to accept that CCP isn't really interested in stopping the Bots.
From their stand point, it keeps prices down and that is good for noob players just coming into the game as well as for the PvP players who go through the most ships and mods.
You might be able to say that miners and builders are hurt by it because of those low prices but in reality as everything they buy is also at a lower cost that damage is somewhat mitagated.
Lastly, each of those bot accounts is a subscription to CCP and means real money is coming in from them.
All things considered, I don't see CCP as having a strong motivation to stop botting.

Um.....
Botters can buy gametime with plex with the ISK they earn.
How exactly does CCP benefit from this?

You did not seriously ask that, did you ? In case you did, allow me to explain: a PLEX is a converted GTC. A GTC is something CCP sells for RL-cash. Soooo .. if noone would buy Plexes, noone would buy GTCs to create PLEXes. Can you follow me ? Good. You may say "if they couldn't buy plexes, they'd just buy GTCs directly" .. and that is where the catch is. A lot of people have 2nd / 3rd accounts they would not have if they would not have the ability to play "for free", meaning trading their ingame earnings for other people's RL-earnings.
Assuming that botting makes such a huge difference, one could say these people have an unfair advantage. However, there are 4 parties that benefit from it: - the botter, as he can fund his (2nd) account - the PLEX-seller, as he can exchange RL-cash for ISK - CCP, since they have more payed accounts - we all - because Eve only works and gets developed if CCP earns money with it
How big the unfair advantage really is depends a lot on the person/char running the bot. If you fill a Retriever with Veldspar, warp to station, dock, unload, undock, warp back, rinse, repeat, the profit is relativly small, because you spend most of the time flying around - and that is assuming the bot works properly and effective.
As with all things, if you max it out, it may actually come to considerable amounts. But I would guess that only a handful of players really do it on a "commercial level". If you see the global amount, it's sure impacting the market - but the individual profit for the vast majority of botters is (most likely) not gamebreaking.

Why I came up with this idea, because no matter what other ideas people come up with, everyone says it is a stupid idea and that there is no way to stop bots. Well, I made this thread just to see how you would all react to an idea that really was stupid. So you idiots actually fell for it. You knew it was a trap, and not only that, it was a social experiment. -- As an Amarr Defector, I chose to become a Mercenary and Industrialist. allow me to add on
a year and a half to 2 years ago, plex cost around 200 mill
now they cost 320 mill. if this price jump is becuase of bots....why is it a bad thing? If im going to pay an additional 15bucks (asside from my monthly membership) on eve, I want to get the isk money possible....and now you're telling me prices are down and plex prices are up? holy crap buy a plex, sell it, buy your epic ships.
CCP gets paid for your monthly subscription (15 bucks) and for the plex you just bought someone (15 bucks) so in one month time, they made 2 months of profit from you!! Bots are stimulating the economy...of Iceland!

Also, the mini-quiz idea is not a pop-up. It is suppossed to be required to access certain windows, but if you say so, then go ahead and call it a bad idea. I guess every idea in the world is a bad idea.
Also, Iceland is planning a future that the country would be powered by hydrogen, and you all know how cheap that stuff is, right? -- As an Amarr Defector, I chose to become a Mercenary and Industrialist. I also have one goal in mind: Create a new age of peace and prosperity for all four empires. |

Not every idea, but certainly the ones I've been reading from you this past week or so. And what does Iceland's energy plans have anything to do with this, talk about irrelevant gibberish.

The bots used by <insert 0.0 RMT alliance name here> read the client memory directly, and have access to loads of info not displayed to a regular player. This may, or may not, include the players in system list.
If not tho, I agree, nerf local, and ban anyone who d-scans every 2 seconds constantly for the full 23/7. Other solution is for everyone motivated to make an AFK cloaker alt and leave it logged on whenever they're not playing.

Do bots in high sec keep them self entertained by reading local chat? Do they just self uninstall once they get bored?
