Im getting back into the game and looking to do some L4 missions. One thing that was annoying was ninja salvagers who scan you down and salvage your wrecks while you are doing mission. Are these guys still a problem? I had to avoid the best agents because they were in systems crawling with these guys

to answer a retorical question, yes
if you ignore them, they will salvage/loot the entire mission including your mission objective
if you shoot at them for looting this gives them the ability to come back in a PVP ship to kill you and loot your wreak AND the rest of your mission
damned if you do, damned if you don't

No.
You don't have to worry about Ninja Salvagers at all ... You are perfectly at liberty to choose to worry and be annoyed by them though, or not.
Your choice :) . All generalisations are false - Discuss.

Don't mission in systems with a lot of ninja salvagers. Mission in systems with a lot of suicide gankers and worry about them instead. Problem solved.

No. You never had to. You're still free to do so if you wish, but you're entirely free not to as well. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

fact of life even in high sec. For whatever reason, CCP considers salvaging not to be theft. However looting your wrecks cargo is theft. As previously stated, you can just put up with it, or shoot the looter (which causes him to bring in his nearby mission killer and turn you into a greasy spot in space) if the bad guys are still shooting at you, consider warping out and letting the looter take a few hits heh. Otherwise, its just part of the game.

GTFO of Motsu.
Seriously though, check the map for pilots docked and active in the system you want to mission in. If it's less than 80, you're probably good.
Oh yeah, about my sig... you have now read it.

Edited by: Droidster on 10/02/2011 17:17:27 If you are wasting your time collecting salvage you don't understand the economics of missions. You will make significantly more money focusing on completing the mission faster and doing another mission. The salvage is a waste of time.
Mission runners who collect salvage rather than doing what they are supposed to be doing (running the mission) are griefers who are trying to ruin the game for the salvagers. _____________________________________________ I am not an alt |

Don't mission in high population systems. I've seen 2 ninjas in 1.5 years of play.

Yes they still exist but the chances of you seeing one is tiny. Maybe 1 out of 100 missions. I've only had one that I can remember but it was on Duo of Death so ha on them for wasting their time.

Blitz missions for Rewards, Bounties, and LPs then you'll never have to worry about dudes like me, except for your Mission OBJs, cause, yeah... we like those. Also, we figure if you're flying in Motsu, you enjoying our service. Ninja Extravaganza, Strategies for Ninja Salvagers

Getting butthurt and bent out of shape over ninja salvagers is totally optional and always has been! Some changes to mission destinations occurred not too long ago that spread the ninjas out a bit, but not by much. It may not happen as frequently as it used to, but like a lot of other people mentioned, it will hardly happen at all if you avoid big mission hubs like Motsu.
If you're doing level 4's, I always recommend asking in local if anyone wants to come along and salvage your mission for you. Lots of new players will be eager to get at the salvage you'll be leaving behind, can loot for you, and are often willing to split the take.
This used to be common practice, in fact, but seems to have dropped off a bit. I've been doing a lot more exploration than ninja salvaging for the past year, though, so I'm not sure whether it's still going on and I'm just not noticing it.
But yeah, since salvaging another player's wrecks is not stealing, you won't have to fleet up with them, so your mission objectives/rewards remain yours alone (which is probably the design reason why salvaging another player's wrecks is not stealing).

Find less-used systems to mission in. In a year and a half of running L4 missions I've seen two ninja salvagers. It's not a problem if you're in the right systems.

As long as you don't shoot at them. No you don't have to worry about them. Just watch for missions that require looting an item and know where it's going to spawn (if it isn't something easily replaced like militants) so you can get it quick.
Other than that just ignore them and move on to the next mission that's how you grief them back.

In my experience, if you ignore them, they almost always leave of boredom. They really want you to interact with them, and even better to shoot at them. No interaction = bored ninja = leaving ninja.
