In the long run, it's not going to help your reputation much as a combat pilot unless its with a ship that also can't shoot back like an industry or miner.

I'm not questioning the 'cold harsh' environment of EvE.
I am questioning the (lack of?) bragging rights when crowing over a kill that couldn't possibly do anything to you in return.
I mean, what skill DOES it take to kill a pod? a Shuttle?
How much tank do you need to fend them off while you finish the kill?
This isn't about 'is it right' or 'is it legal' or 'should it be allowed'.
It is simply questioning the puffed up bravado od someone who specializes in killing things that pose no threat to them at all.
Sort of like, where is the honor of beating a baby to death?
Doesn't stop some people from doing it, and some even brag about it while they await their turn at the chair.
Just makes me question the motive, that's all.
With Shuttles and Freighters, I guess I can see a certain motive in the 'pinata factor', not knowing what may drop, but pods?
Unless they have started dropping implants, I really don't get the podding thing at all.

You clearly do a different form of hunting than many people. Fishing is very low risk (barring "extreme" fishing your biggest worry is drowning and not the fish), hunting for deer with a rifle is very low risk (your biggest risk is being shot by another hunter and not the deer suddenly charging you). There are exceptions to this just like that you could argue that brushing your teeth requires great skill because you did it skydiving one time.
It's a game, there is no real honor to any activity. Also often times podding has a good use of taking them far away from returning with a ship to kill you while you loot such as in a WH fight.

Hunting boars with a buck knife is hardly hunting something that cannot hurt you and fails your first premise - that you are killing something which cannot harm you.

Calling troll on this but Halo is a first person shooter and there is a fucntion called crouching that is used to get behind cover. Teabagging is the act of crouching over your dead enemies over and over again to imitate putting a man's "teabag" in their face. Mostly as a giant "screw you" to your victims. |

You are right there is no skill in shooting something that can't shoot back. There isn't really any skill in actual combat anyway.
but you forget, why can they shoot something that can't shoot back in the first place? It is being able to put yourself in that position that takes the skill. The real pvp in eve is based on setting up the encounter so you can win, not in nothing a few function keys.

TBH the only unarmed ships people fly should be a cloaky transport, a shuttle, a pod, or a freighter.
Gameplay these days rules nothing out, so even when mining you should have a decent escort. There is no way in hell i would be moving around solo in space with a war dec on.
If i did, then i am prepared to lose my ship. The only way people lose pods is either through a warp bubble, lag, or bad luck. If your ship gets blown up, you should have already clicked on a random planet to warp to, and be spamming that warp button like its the last thing you will ever do.

Adding my 2cts as an industrialist here, who regularly flies in low/null sec with 100-200M worth of cargo.
While I don't see the 'bragging rights' of shooting a miner, or a mammoth or a shuttle(NOBODY moves expensive stuff in a shuttle, it's stupid ). Industrials and freighters have a wonderful pinata effect, so any player flying one should know that you will be shot at, at some point, simply so someone can brag they shot someone carrying 73 plexes.
On the flip side of the coin, especially in low/null sec, I LOVE it when there's gate camps about, makes my trip to Jita/wherever so much more interesting when carrying a few hundred mill worth of stufff to sell. And gives me bragging rights and smacktalk rights in local when they can't catch me.
I would have laughed my ass off if I had made it through a camp a few weeks ago. Made a mistake, got stuck in a bubble 80km from the gate, with junk all around, so I couldn't cloak my pretty little Prowler. In comes a hawk, who locks me and scrambles me before I manage to get away from the junk and recloak/warp off. Next comes an ishkur, and an isthar who all begin pounding me, while I begin burning 80km to the gate. I was about to begin the final 10km countdown when they finally managed to break me. Hell I'm still proud I managed to fly 70 km with a prowler while under fire. I've also had plenty of fun annoying the crap out of a gatecamp sitting in Gonditsa, when I flew past them 4 times on a single day, and they never caught me.
So far I've excaped dozens of low sec camps, bubble camps in low sec, suicide gankers in high sec when I was carrying really valuable stuff. ( 10 plexes was my record ;) ) I've lost a prowler or two, three, but overall, I've well made up for it with my successfull cargo runs.
In short, all you gatecampers out there, KEEP CAMPING! And keep an eye on local for when I'm around, because I'm a Pro-gatecrasher. Come and try to get THIS industrialist. :P

Well Im calling "horse do" on this one. Since when do bubbles go up in lowsec.
Oh and BTW, deer hunting can be dangerous. I was hunting in a state park for deer, this particular park doesnt allow deer stands, when I was attacked by a deer that had been shot with an arrow a few weeks before. Apparently, an infection had set up and made the dam thing crazy, it charge me and stood up on its back legs and attempted to stomp on me with his hooves. I managed to get a shot off before any real damage was done.
The sad part was after dressing him out I found the area where he had been hit with the arrow and all the meat was ruined. Kinda like hitting a freighter only to have the crap stuff drop.

Its not just about the 'fun' part, its about letting people know they shouldnt be doing that there without protection. Or in the case of war its to disrupt 'shipping lanes' as much as possible so the enemy can no longer fly that way/undock - also the more you kill the higher you can ransom for... well at least in theory :p except for hulkkageddon which tbh, im not sure about - ganking haulers with loot i can see, but ganking for zero profit?

I don't know about you, but when I boar hunt, I use a .308, because fighting a boar on it's terms will get you killed, or at the least severely injured. Same with eve. A fair fight will lose you money. Besides, a lot of these "blobs" you see is simply because no one wants left out of the kill, not because it's needed.

First, we only use dogs when hunting coons, and then only 'cuz we are usually too damned drunk to keep up with the critters. We still climb the tree when we get there, though.
Second, pitbulls are effin useless in hunting. I'll put my blueticks against them worthless fleabags any day or night. Pitbulls my ass.
Third, you try gettin ANY kind of clothing on a hound. Go on, try. Make sure you do up a nice video on youtube. And if you do manage to pull off that feat, make sure you get a good vid of your bed after your hound ****es on it for making him look like some kind of kansas city ***got.
And last, but not least by any means, you seem to have an enormous amount of sand in yer virginny over these space police fellas. You get caught not doing a proper flathand and get fooled by one of em? A little un-asked for buggery come your way? The way you carry on, sounds to me that you liked it and now cant stand yerself.
Seek help, fella. Professional Therapy. I hear tell it works. You might give it a go.
Oh, and to that other fella, yeah, I'm in Florida. What of it?

You obviously have a problem with your sexuality. for the life of me I cant't undestand the obsession with killing dumb animals that just want to be left alone. Honestly it's really not macho outside of your imagination. You have to get over what the guys did to you in the locker room and come to terms with your ghosts. Regarding hunting boars with a knife would you like to tell us how many times you have done it and how many times you have been the one who has died. Then we can work out the statistics and compare those in the battle clinic to lets say an Abbaddon vs an Ibis. Then we can perhaps discuss further what a fair fight is.

Well, let me ask you this. Is it considered "un-sporting" to shoot a deer, buck, rabbit, bear, an ex - girlfriend, her new boyfriend, or a tiger? Seems to me they are defenseless, much like a jump freightor or miner.
Suggest you tell every hunter you know he has to kill deer/bears/exs with his bear hands, instead of guns or arrows, to be more sporting. Guns don't kill people. onowait. |

Well, coming from someone who was just recently reminded that no place in space is safe, I don't see the problem really. It just makes you actually participate in your journey from here to there, rather than fly on Auto Pilot and not pay attention to whats going on around you. Though I do have to admit, losing those Bose Audio Implants was painful.. do you KNOW how much a good pod sound system costs these days? I mean sheesh..... -

Calling troll on this but Halo is a first person shooter and there is a fucntion called crouching that is used to get behind cover. Teabagging is the act of crouching over your dead enemies over and over again to imitate putting a man's "teabag" in their face. Mostly as a giant "screw you" to your victims.
Should have left it called. Obvious troll is obvious. ----------sig------------------------- A Higher grade of posting

Unless they have started dropping implants, I really don't get the podding thing at all.
Popping PODs is to take the pilot out of the battle for a little longer. In Wormholes, you pop their pod, they have to fly back from wherever in the hell their med facility is to get to the Wormhole (which they may not have a link that's close) then traverse wormhole space. Hopefully, you (as a group) control the access holes to the hole where the fight took place, and you can give that pilot a second trip back to the med facility.
Even in empire, if you can pop a pod - it removes them from your calculations for a moment or an hour.
On the other hand, I've let pods go too... It's situational. Please re-size your signature to the maximum allowed of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24000 bytes. Zymurgist

Here's a wakeup call for you buddy. Those wild boars that you hunt are full of parasites, worms and all sorts of bacteria. Might save you half a dollar on petfood if you work in the cost of fuel and ammo. The pigs, sheep and cattle that I rear are not full of drugs, hormones and pesticides as you seem to think. But then I wouldn't expect some redneck hillbilly to know that. Just point that trigger and shoot then when everything is dead after the first 12 months you gonna starve too. Thats the difference between neanderthal and modern man. Modern man learned to care for animals. Nodoubt you have your cave picked out and stocked already, just make sure you got plenty of worming tablets. I'd hate to see you draggin your sorry ass along the ground. ;P

Originally by: Helicity Boson Honor is a set of self imposed, unnatural, limits that go against the Darwinian reality of the universe.
Honor is a foolish delusion; it's only worth is in the mind of the deluded.
It doesn't go against the Darwinian reality of human populations, though, since integrity and morally good actions tend to affect people's perception of you, thereby benefiting you. Whether or not it is an intrinsic property of humans is debatable, but there is no question that selfless actions in social groups tend to help rather than hurt. If you really live by what you say, you'd probably be in jail and not playing Eve. Since that is obvously not the case, your explanation is simply a melodramatic and stylized cop out for explaining exactly what it is that gets you so hot in the pants about Hulkageddon. I respect you for your Hulkageddon organization, and as a miner, I will just have to be more careful, since it is a legitimate event. But I can't help but feel as though the veined excuse that it gets rid of botters or that it helps the economy is inadequate. I have a feeling people do it for the cheap lulz at other's expense; that it is someone with more power strongarming someone with less. I'm sure you don't do it for the insurance payouts...and it can't be for the bragging rights, because it seems easy to do. I can't quite call it bullying, but the definitions match. It is avoidable by keeping an eye out. Then again, so is getting your purse stolen. You should steal something in real life! Except you wouldn't, since there'd be severe repercussions. So my conclusion is that it must be because there are virtually no consequences for suicide ganking. And no consequences = no challenge = nothing to brag about = sort of a weird concept. I will continue to mine and keep my eye out in local for you, Helicity, but at least you see not everyone believes what all the gankers say. And I have to give you credit...at least you use your main and take the standings hit like a man (or woman) and don't train up some alt toon to take the damage CCP would have your character take for suicide ganking.

lol some of the posts on here It's all about the demographic's of eve, most players are young/immature. They play eve all day, so they're not the fittest .I.E. not the fastest/strongest of people. All day on a computer hardly leads to a good sex life. Most proberly run if a nice girl talks to them. They are entitled to have something to bragg about, even if it's only pathetic killmails.
Sad people have rights too, thats why we have killmails medals etc
Dont worry about it log off, go for a beer or get the girlfriend/wife Real men dont shoot helpless ships, or need kill boards ETC, leave that for the t*ssers

Thanks, But I was actually talking about real meat like beef pork or lamb. If you choose to buy imported processed garbage then I can't vouch for the content of that. Britain learned its lesson with the mad cow disease so there are strict regulations about animal stockfeeds and husbandry. Many third world countries are not so particular about what they feed their livestock so you always run the risk with imported meat as it is usually only sampled to meet minimum requirements. At the end of the day though there is plenty of good meat around so shooting dumb creatures is just some lame excuse to release the inherent evil. Best sell the guns and keep the rage for Eve or its forums ;)
