Be sure to use an Improved Cloaking Device II. You can't do it with the Prototype Cloaking Device I.
1. Align. 2. Cloak. 3. Activate MWD. 4. Cancel MWD. 5. Wait for the MWD cycle to end (10 seconds). 6. As soon as the MWD cycle ends, immediately cancel cloak and spam warp.
Check youtube for videos. A quick search turned-up several.

Edited by: CCP Dropbear on 11/02/2011 18:43:59 Quoting this article:
Quote: The single most important aspect of a travel fit is the ability to fit a cloaking device and a microwarp drive. This allows you to do the (in)famous cloak/warp trick (which does still work despite what some naysayers say), which is when you jump into a camp, you click to align to the next gate, hit your MWD, then immediately cloak. Once the MWD runs one full cycle you drop the cloak and go to warp. If you do it right, you'll instawarp and be nigh invulnerable.
Here's a half-decent video of it in action.
As this article explains, you need 75% of your speed (velocity) to warp to a location. Often, your ship can align much more quickly than it can get up to that speed. The idea behind the MWD/Cloak trick is that it buys you time (while you're cloaked) to get up to that velocity. It does this because bursting your MWD for a cycle raises you well above your base speed velocity for a short while (even despite the cloaking device velocity penalty) and then, when it deactivates and you are slowing down, you are still well above 75% velocity for a while. At that point you drop cloak, initiate warp instantly, and shoot off before anyone can lock you.
Edit: As Tau points out, the Prototype Cloak won't work. The reason for this is because it reduces your velocity too much.

Woah. That's news to me. Didn't know it had to be Improved rather than Prototype. -----------------

You really think you can activate module while cloaked? Then what's with the message that says something like "disruptions from cloak prevents this device from activating"?

Of course you can't activate any mods while cloaked, but if you do it, like, right after you clicked on the cloak it does work - I guess it's a client lag thing.
I did think it worked with the prototype cloak as well - it has seemed to for me but I guess I never tried it with any really big, slow ships.

Facts > guessing
Fact, you can't activate anything while cloaked. Fact, you can bypass some module use limits by pressing them at basically the same time(ie. tractor beams).

If it was an exploit, this thread probably would have been purged when CCP Dropbear responded in the second reply, rather than offering an explanation and a video link.

I seriously have to laugh at the exploit nonsense. It's been in game for years and then something changed with cloaking which also affected this tactic, took about 2 weeks of outcry for CCP to reinstate this TACTIC.

*is glitching I'm talking from personal experience. I tested this with my Stealth Bomber, there is about 3 seconds from activating your cloak to being fully cloaked during which you can this activate modules. I'd suggest you: A)try activating your MWD before breaking gate cloak, B)stay cloaked and see if your modules continue running, assuming ofc that your hardener at the very least isn't set to single cycles. Fact, you can't activate anything while cloaked. Fact, you can bypass some module use limits by pressing them at basically the same time(ie. tractor beams).

Edited by: Fyrgen Hith on 01/03/2011 20:04:38 Gah my above post isn't show what I typed(at least to me). Will edit this in a minute with what I typed
I am talking from personal experience. I tested this with my Stealth Bomber and there is 3 seconds between activating the cloak and being fully cloaked during which you can still activate modules. Now I would suggest you: A)try activating a module before breaking gate cloak, B)Wait cloaked and see if you modules continue running after their first cycles(assuming you have set to continuously run once activated) and reactivate them. |

a) gatecloak never lets you activate a module, nor have I implied that it should b) you can only run one cycle while cloaked as the second cycle will do an "uncloaked check" which you're not. I never implied that it would, actually I stated this in the vid I linked first
Modules that affect others, ECM etc, will NOT complete the full cycle, they changed this a while back as to stop Falcons from jamming someone for 20 seconds and then cloaking while waiting out the jam cycle. Further evidence that CCP knows about this mechanic and allows it's normal self-only use.

It doesn't, this whole thread is about being able to use a cloak while aligning, which by definition means it's not about gatecloak as that drops when hitting the align button. --- Stultorum infinitus est numerus.

Well, in that case you should probably watch the first video I linked instead of assuming I said something. That vid shows everything one needs to know about the whole mechanic.

Its not backpedaling when the information has relevance. As I said I speak from personal experience not making assumptions, I'll lost a couple of (Edit) ships with cloaks(indy mostly) due to this, I successfully start cloaking then it get broken because "You can not cloak while locked."
