Hey, just wondering if anybody knew how well the ishtar compared with the Domi for running level IV's.
I've run level IV's for a good while with the domi no problem, but bought this toon very recently and noticed I'm just 1 skill away from flying the ishtar.
I realise that the DPS is probably going to be similar (as I'm primarily a drone boat), more curious about tanking.
Is it just a case of taking aggro, dropping sentries and orbiting them at high speed? (In the ishtar)
Any missions the ishtar struggles with?
Any feedback is welcome, as I'm trying to decide whether or I stick with the domi or start training towards the ishtar...thanks!? :)

An Ishtar will have much higher native resists before the addition of modules. It also had a much smaller sig radius which means less incoming damage from battleships(though you should probably kill frigates earlier now) and it can fit a 10mn AB and speedtank very well and since you probably won't be using alot of guns, you can fit tractors and salvagers.

I switched from Domi to Ishtar after buying a toon with HAC 5 and T2 sentries, and I never looked back tbh. You'll find a lot of threads about the differences between these two boats, and substantial camps on either side. The Domi is more "low SP-friendly", and more forgiving about ****-ups because it has plenty of tank. On the other hand, with HAC 4/5 and T2 sentries the Ishtar can be a lot more fun to fly and a damn sight quicker on certain missions. My advice would be to train HAC to 4 (and sentries to T2 if you don't have that already), and the Drone Rigging skill to 4. They are all very useful long-term mission skills anyway. Then fit up an Ishtar (plenty of fits around) and use it on a couple of easy sniping missions (Gone Berserk springs to mind). And yes - the easy mode is to drop eg. Wardens at 60-70km and orbit them, switching to Garde II's for anything approaching within 20km. Take spare sentries to cycle out any that obtain aggression. And set up your drone kotkeys - you'll be using those a lot :D

Edited by: Baraka Saibot on 12/02/2011 17:11:21 Dominix. Alot More DPS because of large hybrids+ dmg bonus.
One LAR+3-4 Hardeners is enough. Rest for cap , omnis, 1-2 Sentry dmg rigs and 1-2 Magstabs.

This is what you do if you're gallente and want to run lvl 4s.
Seriously, the ishtar is crap at lvl 4s, puts out less DPS than a gank fit cruiser, and the only real way to tell how good a mission running ship is is how much isk it makes you per hour, and ships with higher DPS tend to make more isk. |

The Ishtar is useful for nomadic folks since it fits into an Orca where the Dominix doesn't.

I'm not really fond of 425s. Besides, who want's to sit in a coffin that can't even keep shooting after running out of cap booster charges?

I prefer 425s, but it's more a matter of preference than anything else.
That said, you won't run into cap issues with that ship. Ever. With the DPS you're aiming to get out of it, most missions don't even require the use of your shield booster, let alone any sustainable tank. |

I'd say the amount of ISK you're willing the spend comes into play as well here. The Ishtar is a nice boat, the Domi is its cheaper alternative.
But if your toon as any shield skills aswell and you are willing to spend the ISK I'd say get a Rattlesnake.
It tanks better then almost any other ship and does very good DPS with proper drone training as well.

Ignore this guy. The domi runs circles around both the ishtar and the rattlesnake, the only reason to use either of the other 2 is if you want to run lvl 5s in lowsec. More tank does you no good in a lvl 4, once you get enough to not die any additional tank is wasted, and the only thing that matters is how quickly you finish the mission. A shield tanked domi will put out more damage, at much better ranges, than either the rattler or the ishtar, so in the end it's notably better. |

Thanks for all the replies.
I'll probably end up trying both, when I have got my isk back up. Got the navy shoe already, so it's just a matter of tweaking a few more skills, and getting the isk.
I'll try the ishtar too, for variation :)

I got one of each tbh, Domi is much more suited for alot of the heavier missions and able to supply the extra dmg needed, where as the ishtar is awsome for certain missions ,Intercept the sabotaur and those similar to it where you either got to loot something or travel far to acceleration gates.
But in general the domi is the safe way to go regarding performance, Ishtar does require somewhat micro management regarding movement and what to target, As essentially your gonna want to take out BC/Cruiser rats first , but in most cases you will be stuck taking frigates down cause they are able to tackle you if not handled at range by sentry's (Not always possible)
My 2 cents :)
