Very enjoyable video. Really delivers on the motivational and inspirational levels... Almost makes me wanna go back to play some more. Appreciate the quote there :-) Great to see those glimpses of some double plated cruiser beauty :-P Some awesome fights you scored there it seems.
Eve is a very tough game to master, or just to get 'good' at, and even then the definition of a good PvP pilot differs greatly depending on who you ask, and depending on many variables and circumstances.
The social angle is so strong on the game, that you are 'born' into well established set of rules. And as you start moving in the game you move between a whole bunch of different sets of rules, actually from my experience you get hammered with tons of information, and a lot of it contradicts information you've already been taught... Well, it can really become a mess. And its great to follow experienced FCs who's been at it for years. But a pilot will never truly know whats what, from the fundamentals, unless he kind of attempts to 'discover' it for himself. Great to keep in mind what you've already learned from others, but even better to question it and put it to the test, along with anything else a pilot could be curious of, to really test it all.
I found out many of the things I thought were a kind of Eve reality... Were just wrong. Actually the more I went on flying solo, the more free I felt of all that mountain of concepts, numbers, known rules, unspoken rules, 'must be', has to be, nevers, always, etc... Every roam turned into an adventure, and I was no longer answering to anyone or anything, not an alliance, not a corp, not an FC, and most certainly not the killboards... And just started to purely enjoy myself.
There are many aspects in one's life where you can free yourself. I've done it before and I'll do it many times more I hope. And Eve truly was another one, and one of the more fun ones at that I have to say.
Its kind of difficult to point your finger and materialize into words what we mean by a 'free pilot'... It changes from pilot to pilot. But surely, it always has to do with overcoming fear :-) at least of some form. Why do we log on? A lot of people become deeply invested in the game in one way or another... And most seem to only bring about that investment in means of fear of loss. Up to that loss, they accumulate, and even in those great moments of intense action, they don't let themselves take it in and truly enjoy, due to fear of that inevitable future loss.
But that investment can also manifest as a great joy of freedom, flying in the vast empty space that is New Eden, as the free pilots that we are. Free minds really, and furthermore... free souls.
Eve is as spiritual as anything else in this world, no more no less. Of course its designed as a game of pew pew. But what it really is... a place where people interact. In a very unique way too. And as we all have many obstacles to go through in our lives, as human beings on this planet, we bring those issues with us wherever we go. There are no limitations to where or how a human can free him/her self, in some way or another. As the world progresses in technology, old rules no longer apply. Eve is a beautiful place and perhaps a great opportunity for a mind to let go of some forms of fear and insecurity. My latest solo PvP videos: Hunting Spirit (Moa, Thorax) Underdog (Rupture) |
