Hello All,
So today I got into it with a purely passive drake, no pvp to speak of, yet I could NOT break the damn tank. I spoke to the pilot and took a few more shots at it, however try as I might I could not break it with my phantasm or my harbinger, using T2 pulse and conflag... eventually I would have to warp off, as the missiles did begin to hurt too much. Now had he a disruptor, then I think that little loss of tank may have been enough, and I did get REALLY close with my harby.
Where is my fail? If you need to douche, please do it at home. |

Not necessarily fail on your part, PvE Drake bricks have pretty lulzy tanks :3

Had I had anyone else with me, I am sure it would have popped, but really ... I was in structure the last time I quit, and he was under 20% which means I ALMOST got him ... but really.
The Harby has 7 HPL with Conflag, I've got 5% in my head, skills basically maxed, and 3 heat sinks ... the drones weren't perfect at Valkyries, but still!
There has to be a way to break it, any suggestions? If you need to douche, please do it at home. |

Where are you flying?
Drakes around here (Great Wildlands) seem to be weak on thermal resist more than anything else.
If you're flying somewhere that the npcs use EM/Thermal and you're flying a laser BC then you're going to struggle with the tank as the ratters will have plugged the holes.

Neuts will turn off his invulnerability fields.

Indeed they will but Harbys and medium neuts aren't usually a great idea

Overload your guns when he hits peak recharge (~30% shields). Use T2 drones of the appropriate damage type (based on whatever rats he's fighting).

Next time warp in on him when he's in a Sanctum...& may the powers of rats and harby's combine for a beautiful splosion. |

Edited by: Apollo Gabriel on 14/02/2011 20:32:27 The drake was all passive hardeners and 1 invuln, I am so embarrassed I couldn't kill him! I did OL guns around 35% the time I was in structure before I ran away... If you need to douche, please do it at home. |

Part of what kept him alive also kept you alive. He was a mission config so all of his med spots were dedicated to tank. As you surmised had he been sporting the web/scram that you no doubt had as a pvp ship his tank surly would have folded.
On most ships a mission fit may be fail for PvP, but a mission drake is so only in that it cannot pin you down any longer than you allow it to.

Even more so before they nerfed the Drake's tank
OP, a passive Drake can tank around 840 DPS with a single invuln. [Drake, lolcarebear] Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I
Invulnerability Field II Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II Shield Recharger II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile Improved Cloaking Device II
Medium Core Defence Field Purger I Medium Core Defence Field Purger I Medium Core Defence Field Purger I
^Can tank 847 DPS omni without implants or anything else. A dual invuln one can tank 972 DPS. So it was not necessarily your fail, more the way a Drake is.

Thanks for the comments all, I've decided it was not my fail fitting. I have done a lot of looking and it looks as if my fit is very standard. If you need to douche, please do it at home. |

Hate to break it to you, but 20% shields on a Drake is a dead Drake. You should have stayed and nailed him, assuming of course you weren't in deep structure.
Train Thermodynamics if you don't have it, as for ammo I personally prefer Imperial Navy Multifrequency.

Edited by: Daneel Trevize on 16/02/2011 20:11:12 VS a brick pve drake I'd say conflag was the better choice since they tweaked it. They can be a bloody boring nightmare to break. I don't feel bad for bringing corpmates to get the job done quick once they're caught. |

I knew 20% meant it was over, but I was over too. I have replayed the event in my head many times and realize I made some bad tactical choices while fighting him which would have bought me a little more time, and that would have been enough.

Its always the way. Even when you kill one and get out from his buddies you'll think "oh damn if I'd done this at that time I'd have got two of them".
When you kill two and get out.... |
