people stealing salvage or even looting..... okay.
But its ridiculous that theyre able to steal your mission goal like the damsel in 'damsel in distress' mission. You can not do anything against it. Because attacking them will enable them to legally attack you in their pvp ship, and on contract those mission items are 18m+. Means you have to cancel the mission (wich gives you a standing hit), stop playing till next day so the mission resets, or flying all the way to Jita so you can pay an insane price for the mission target.

i agree, make the mission goal only available to those that started the mission, not anyone else.
one player attempts to steal the mission goal, make it say "this item is not yours to take"

It's called griefing. Quite cheap, too, if you ask me. But complaining won't help, the only thing you'll end up getting is a lot of flames. Ok, now some people will come up with the harsh world argument. I'd do so myself if it wasn't so out of place.
That kind of griefing has nothing to do with a harsh world, since it's located in the already *cough* not so harsh *cough* PvE content of Eve. If mission runners were supposed to deal with a harsh world, too, then making missions harder would be a lot more straightforward then letting bored players grief some mission runners. But it keeps the bored players occupied, hence it's working as intended and probably won't get changed.
If somebody steals your mission loot, just thing of it as a good deed. You're keeping a bored player playing and enjoying himself ;)

As I recall you can petition this, if it prevents you finishing a mission I've heard people mention that it's a petitionable offence so see if that works.

if you have damsel...don't pop the pleasure garden with vultures in the area. Warp out, coffee/smoke break, let them do thier thing and they will leave.
Vultures usually don't pack guns so they won't pop the pleasuee gardens last structure part after you deal with zor. If they do pack guns on a dessie or frigate their gun range has them in the blast radius when it blows up and they will most likely go pop (its a 3000 dps hit iirc). Sadly I forgot about this and wiped my dual boxer in a t2 frig I was trying a new idea with....didn't want that ship anyway lol.
Mission rat boss rat that carries the item...same thing. Let vultures get thier rocks off and they leave. Finish boss, get item.
Sucks but sometimes only way to deal with this is work around the vultures.

Going to go with the typical response
1. Don't mission in hubs 2. Use T3 Unprobable or HACs 3. Train marauders, damnsel is 20 minutes minimum once you get good enough and keep track of the triggers 4. Learn to use Dscan even in highsec and hit it every 60 seconds, set 450,000,000 minimum (750 or more is better) 360 degrees and set probes onto the overview while using the overview setting on the Dscan (remove POS and moons as well). If you see probes, right click and abandoned them all while targeting the large ones for destruction. You are already getting bounty, can't always have the cake and the entire desert bar all the time 5. Laugh at their pathetic attempt to meta game, hit the triggers, come back and if the damnsel is gone so what. You got the faction standing and a single cancel mission isn't the end of the world. Never fire on a ninja unless you can take them and the "ransom lolRP" for the damnsel is more then bounties but you can always collect the bounties, decline the mission, and get another one while they have to look for another mission runner to collect a KM to prove nothing of importance (think of it, its a highsec battleship kill that they know they had the upper hand and being in highsec they have zero risk to collect it (aka, easy mode cause the target can't fight back effectively and they were hiding behind CONCORD just as much as the mission runners). I would respect someone with 100 cruiser kills in lowsec more then a guy with a single marauder kill and billions of isk on his KM board)

No, this is merely a step towards instancing pve content.
Eve is a sandbox game. Let's keep it that way. Sarcasm - Because i'm too far away to strangle you. |

Don't pop the pleasure garden if you have company in your mish, and don't pop it from 50km away then slow boat to it. Get as close as possible to what ever has the item in it before killing it.

Griefing is a bit grey on where it lies in the rules. iirc stealing a mission item is ok as long as you then give the person the opportunity to get it back from your i.e. ransom the mission.
If the griefer just intends to steal the item out of malice then it can be petitioned.
similar rules apply to bumping, you can bump people if you are trying to get a fight or stop them warping out of a fight, but not just for the sake of stoping them going anywhere. ------------------------------------------------

The guy ransomed the mission goal hours later, not much point in that. CCP should keep an eye though on not overdoing their tendency to get people into PvP. There is a big increase in ninja-salvaging since the noctis got introduced, wich is annoying but okay. Stealing missiongoals is friggin annoying though and really a hit of fun in gameplay if it happens to you more often. Some people just dont like PvP, i dont think CCP wants to loose dollars from those people just because they're stubborn.

you can petition to have the mission reset if it means that much to you. They make allowances for mission item resets. Bounties off of damsel ain't that bad, a rerun not that bad a tradeoff.
Or hit up contracts. You got greedy griefers who ransom. You have smart ones who sell on contract for a more fair price. Some contract items not even griefer based. remember a corp or 2 who intentionally failed missions for items to make this a sideline isk maker.
Or jsut choose to fail the the mission after running it. This not so bad after you have made your agent very happy and have some buffer. Back when I could do every level 4 except vengeance (could not break the boss rat's tank with skills and ships at the time) I still took it for the isk from the rest of the rats. Agent would dock me some some points, make them happy again...get vengeance a few days later and see if I could take the boss bot this time around.
Griefers want the attention...don't give it to them. Had one steal my militants once. Was heart broken...had to hit my stash of hundreds in the hangar. Mission items don't have to come from the mission....got them in stock and all you need is the check mark in the box from hitting the trigger bot or structure. Write that down if into blitzes, open up final wave, kill boss bot, mission can be over if you don't want to kill off the other say 8 ships in his wave if you have the item in stock already.

Edited by: Valarre on 18/02/2011 07:06:20 confirming that you can purchase the damsel via contract for 10-20 mil. I wonder how many are stolen... You can also wait until downtime when the mission resets.

I would be very surprised if you can petition this, stealing is part of the game. I have a couple of corp mates who petitioned because they had the their mish item stolen, and since the item was in the mish, not missing, and it was stolen, their petition was turned down.

as a mission runner....I think it is fine as it is.
Some one just took your damsil and your task is still to rescue her...pay the ransom fromt he griefer, buy one..wait for her to get recaprtured or decline...
not like this makes the game unplayable.

Keep it in your contacts, search any info about his corp, his mouvements where he has all his assets his enemies and the best way to make him loose hundred times what he cost you.

or, how about they are the ones who lose standing to the faction that controls that system? So if they steal an item in domain space they lose amarr standing.
