we know that IRC chatting is compatible, but make youtube compatible with the ingame browser already! think of those that want to watch youtube videos while they wait for their mining to finish!

Primarily because the have disabled flash in the IGB, which is what is used to display the vids on youtube and many other sites. You could use your iPhone to watch them....oh wait.
Perhaps if youtube start implementing an HTML5 alternative that should play using the IGB.

YouTube does. Still doesn't work though.
I don't support adding Flash support or plugin support in general. However, I do support adding an FLV player-like option that can play the videos. There are a few free ones or the devs could write their own. Disabled by default if 3rd party, of course. The ability for the IGB to play FLVs in browser doesn't give the great potential for exploits that Flash would.
Regardless CCP needs to at least add an option to the right click menu "Open in external browser"...

1. Esc 2. Graphics tab 3. 'Windowed or Fullscreen' 4. Fixed Window 5. ??? 6. Use your external browser for flash games/youtube
You lose nothing by doing this. In fact, you gain the ability to easily open/close tabs, to have bookmarks you can reach out of game, to have logins stored, all sorts of wonderful things! --- Sig removed till it's relevant again. |

To use HTML5 CCP would have to pay for an MPEG4 license that costs ALOT.
Don't say WebM that isn't a solution as its spec may yet change!

Reasons not to do it: ...
Reasons to do it: - Convenience
Hmmm. Really, yeah you can use an external browser sure, but that's not as convenient. While I don't see this as a priority feature, if CCP wants to add some extra bells and whistles this would be at the top of that list for me. I'd also like to see the jukebox interface with an external player (most of them have APIs now, including WinAMP and iTunes, which let you control them from another app) as well as more ways for sites to interact with EVE through the IGB. Just little extras that are handy/nifty. Not important yet nice to have, you know?

Not nice to have, enables potential security holes. That's the very reason flash isn't currently supported by the ingame browser.
There is no good reason to not use an external browser instead of the built-in browser for something like watching online videos. The ingame browser's primary utility ends up being in the form of jump planners, corp/alliance forums or associated websites, online map services such as dotlan, market data aggregation service such as eve-central, all things that don't require flash nor utilize anything that runs on flash.
Allowing flash also opens up massive potential for stalling scripts and/or applets, which you can be sure players will blame on CCP instead of on the script's coder or applet's designer. Some flash applets also have a nasty tendency to use a massive amount of resources for what they do - look at the current EVE site's Incarna header flash frame as an example; that thing causes my graphics card to run at its 3D setting and crank up its fan speed, as well as pushing my CPU, and I consider that quite an achievement considering what it actually contains.
Now imagine that's been coupled with an EVE client running full graphics settings on a system that is just barely running 'fine'.
Worse, what would happen if someone clicked a 'fullscreen' button on a video or a game, especially if their EVE client is running in fullscreen mode? --- Sig removed till it's relevant again. |

Hello Guys,
I think I rember of a presentation on the Fanfest where it was stated that the disabled Flash and other active contents for the first time, maybe its related to that or you have to allow all subdomains like: s.ytimg.com - maybe in your firewall content filter to if its related to apps.

The advantage of the ingame browser is, that you can still use game features, without pulling the eve window in front of your browser.
But generally I agree, the fixed window functionality makes the ingame browser almost obsolete. That dev time should've been spent somewhere else.
