My friend and I are rather new to eve and I am tryin to figure out what is the best pvp duo. Where are both caldari and i'm moslty specced into missles. I have battle cruiser lvl 2 and interceptor lvl 2 trained. I understand that one needs to be a tackle and the other one dmg? What I really want to know is what should we focus on as far as skills/ships/tactics are concerned? I'm just getting a little confused because I seem to read conflicting things all the time on the forums and I just want to know what role I should focus on and what role my buddy should, to be the most effective pvp pair?

To be honest mate, if you are going to duo you need ot both be in bc's. Roaming as a duo is silly as you do not have eyes on you locations and its a surefire way to end up in a gate camp. Instead your best bet is to fit tank and dps on a battle-cruiser hull ( drakes and myrms are good for this) and gate camp in lowsec. PVP in eve is 90 percent preparation and situation.

Ill say Drem and Vaga/Cynabal would be a good team.
Just make sure you pick your fights on your terms.

The reason you get conflicting information is because there is no single answer to your question.
As your're Caldari Missiles specced two man teams that work are:
DPS and Logistics - ie Drake and Basilisk
DPS and ECM - ie Drake and Falcon
DPS and tackle - ie Drake and Interceptor
DPS and prober - ie Drake and covert ops/recon
DPS and DPS - ie two Drakes.
Each one of these is good in the right situation and you'll have to experiement which ones you have the skills for, enjoy and have success with. If you're going to be doing this in BC's get BC skill to at least level 4 or don't even bother.
Good luck!

Doesn't sound like you have many skills, so I would recommend Merlin and Merlin :D

Prequesite should be "the ability to know what is going on in the systems next to you." Remember that, it is ten times more valuable than a well thought out ship setup.
To answer your question directly, I would suggest two Scorpions. With reason: The ships are cheap and work well with cheap items. You concentrate fire and drones on the same guy and break *most* active PvE tanks. You don't take part in fleet battles, you do not insta-pop even with just 60kEHP. Your two ECM tanks complement oneanother. Your ECM tanks work even better against BCs HACs and Frigs. Your ECM allows you most often to choose to quit an engagement (very important when local spikes). You can fit tackling gear and a sensor booster. You can insure them by 100%. You learn how EW works, get more 2nd chances (to run) and lose less money. Enough CPU power for one of you to bring a core probe launcher along. You can learn how scanning works. Did I mention that the ships are cheap and work well with cheap items. You look awesome.

Guys when giving advice remember that they're fairly new.
I suppose that means they might not be able to afford and lose cruiser sized t2 ships on a regular basis.

Edited by: Mutnin on 17/02/2011 23:19:34 If you have low skills stick to frigs for a bit and get some experience then later move on to a pair of Drakes if you are both Caldari. Just don't get ahead of yourself and trying to go with the "bigger is better" mentality.
You really need at a min BC IV and same for "all" your supporting skills but TBH many really need to be at V's to fly even a Drake semi effectively. Meaning stay cheap fly some frigs and get some experience while those SP's get a bit better.

If you are looking for a path and want to stay focused on Caladari I'd personally go something like..
Kessie > Crow / Hookbill > Drakes.
That's assuming you are both newer players and don't want to get into training for split weapon systems (ie guns) just yet. TBH, there just aren't a lot of Caldari gun platforms that work well as a tag team.
The Kessie's aren't really that great but it's pretty much the only all missile platform for t1 besides the Hookbill (which is awesome).
Going this route you can also do some basic Drake skills to get your selves a decent ship to make ISK. You and your buddy can tag team level 4's pretty easily even with not so well skilled Drakes which will allow you to afford to PVP.
Sadly there just aren't a lot of good blaster/rail ships in the Caldari line up that would make going the gun route early on worth while. You are pretty much better off just focusing on 1 weapon type till you can get those needed support skills out of the way.
At that point, I'd suggest cross training Minmatar because if you can tag team with a pair of Drakes or a pair of Canes you will have a nice little arsenal in your ship bay.

Edited by: Othran on 18/02/2011 11:13:11 The major problem here is that you're BOTH flying Caldari ships.
Someone skilled up to L4 Battlecruiser and reasonable tanking skills is great for a Drake. Frankly you'll find a Drake is one of the more "newbie-friendly" battlecruisers for PvP. Your DPS won't be great but as long as the target is scrammed and webbed that's not usually a problem.
Now the problem is fast tackle. Interceptors are NOT an option for you until you get some experience in flying tackle in a T1 frigate. The problem here is that Caldari T1 frigates aren't exactly noted for their speed or agility.
I suggest that one of you does a quick cross-train for a Rifter (Edit - or a Vigil, they go pretty fast).
Don't need T2 guns and all that, you just need to be able to fly it (min frigate 4+), scram the target and shoot the drones he sets on you. DPS is secondary at this stage, your man in the Drake will provide that.
Something like this would be fine :
[Rifter, Cheap T1 Tackle] 200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Adaptive Nano Plating I Damage Control I
Catalyzed Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
150mm Light Prototype I Automatic Cannon, EMP S 150mm Light Prototype I Automatic Cannon, EMP S Small 'Knave' I Energy Drain 150mm Light Prototype I Automatic Cannon, EMP S
Small Projectile Ambit Extension I Small Projectile Ambit Extension I Small Trimark Armor Pump I
Personally I'm not a great fan of mwds on Rifters but its probably easier tackling with one when you start out. Remember your sig radius will be 210m with the mwd on so you're very very easy to hit from range. Anyway try some cheap fits - some with mwd, some with ab, see what works.
You could do the same for Gallente frigates if you want some overlap on hybrid weapons, they're just not quite as easy as the Rifter.
Obviously the above is pretty simplified - you'll learn more as you go.

You read to much on the forums, there is plenty of good advice here but there is just as much crap and bad advice. Learn by doing. Save up some iskies and buy a load of frigates, 50 merlins or something the like, and learn your ways around before you start thinking about setups. Fit those Merlins with t1 fittings and start looking for trouble. By the time you are losing your last Merlin you and your friend have more pvp experience then most highsec dwellers. From there on you can start thinking about what seems to work and what does not.
If you already know your ways around when it comes to pvp, please disregard this post. =)
