I'm sure this has been answered, so how do I search for those answers?
But, for the near term, I have 15 facilities producing Processed Materials and feeding a processor cluster at the 16th facility. I'm concerned about the advanced processors running dry.
I've got enough Cap and CPU to put in another spaceport, but . . . I've been thinking about a silo or two, but I don't want to have to use expedited transfers. Is there any way to use silos more like a spaceport?

After about an hour with Excel it appears that a 24 hour supply of materials would take up 7228 m3. Kind of tight.

Silos are good if you don't want to clog up your spaceport, but have only half of the amount of space as a spaceport. I've been trucking base PI material to my processors on a desert planet and importing them there. Once there i move them to an adjacent silo (if they are not already filled) and click create route. This works very well if you have a perfectly balanced amount of the material that is used in the processors. However, if one is lower than the other and it runs dry, the second resource will continue to be produced and then shipped off to the next facility in line. Haven't really checked as of late, but any material over 100% of the required component for production is wasted. Which is why you can ship it off to a silo if you still have trouble.
If you need some help, convo me in game and i'll talk to you.

I had the same concerns about silo's myself. If I were running a short program on some planets, there's no way a silo would cut it. Even running 23 hour programs, I still cut it pretty close and will most likely upgrade in the near future. I started a couple planets with the silo's between the extractor and basic processor and the rest with a spaceport to experiment with.

Generally the only use for a silo is when you need a very long link for some reason and upgrading it a level (or two) will cost more PG than using a silo and a non-upgraded link. From the silo you would only need to transport the needed materials for the processors, the excess stays at the silo, reducing the load on the link. That way if you have a 600pg link you would need to upgrade to fit all your materials, a silo in between is a better choice. Still, I haven't come across a situation where any of that was necessary, Gas Giants included. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...
