29460 EHP. Still has decent mining yield. No faction or other expensive stuff, doesn't need particularly high skills. Cap-stable @ 62%
If you don't tank your Hulk, you have no excuse to cry about losing it.

Good tip.
So if nobody has done the setup that you propose in the above then how do they fit their Hulks in the first place?

Probably for max cargo, cargo rigs, cargo expanders, the usual.

Most of what I've seen (which isn't a lot, I'm just passively watching the tears) is people that don't know -how- to PvP tank a ship. They're used to tanking rats and fit things like shield boosters in the mids, and then CCC rigs to try to get cap stable. Some of them just don't try, sure, I've seen empty midslots, but most of it is just kinda sad because it is people trying, they just don't bother to read up on how to do it properly.

Yes, but a lot of hulks aren't fitted with much intent to tank, apart from the odd belt rat, they may put in shield mods but the lows and rigs add even more tank, most don't bother and go for max cargo capacity

It's also possible to gank a jump freighter, but the point is to not be the lowest hanging apple on the tree, give them a fighting chance. Most of the ganks I've seen have only been a few ships, a properly fitted hulk would stand a chance. Fortunately for HG4, nobody seems to bother with a proper fit :P

Alternatively you can do lvl 5s or go into a WH spend 1 hour carebearing and make the equivalent of 50hours worth of macro mining.
The irony is lvl 5s and WH carebearing is safer than hi sec botting >.>

Every hulk I've ganked so far usually had:
3x strip miners (t1 or t2) cargo rigs, mostly t2 mining laser upgrade + expanded cargohold or 2x expanded cargohold some combination of the following in the mids: small shield booster small shield extender 1-2 assorted passive shield resist mods ore scanner invuln field (not activated though)
In every case the hulk had under 12k EHP to kin/therm damage. We failed one gank (hulk survived in half structure) when I picked a target with 90% EM resist and forgot that the other two gank ships were doing primary EM damage.
I'd also like the congratulate all the miners I've come across who were paying attention and warped away within 10 seconds of me decloaking my covops for the initial scan. Especially the guy who swapped his T2 rigged T2 fit hulk with a T1 fit supertank in an attempt to bait us after I scanned him.

Repper drones would be of use if you are mining with others, not solo though

Good point. I created this fit a while ago, well before the very recent change that stops people getting CONCORDOKKENED from RR.

Its very easy to tank a Hulk etc. But since the majority likes to macro. They wont read this or listen. Just whine when their 23/7 droid loses its ship --------------------------------------

I dont get the weird way the mods are moving some hulkageddon threads to crime an punishment, leaving others, and closing one or two because theyre "rants" when about 90% of these are really rants and according to them they all belong in C&P lol

There is no sense in tanking a Hulk, you are still going to die, it just might take a few seconds longer.
Mining in WH Space, our ships are fit for maximum yield, because like I stated, there is nothing you can fit to a hulk to keep it alive from someone that wants to kill it.

How are you getting a 30k alpha in hi-sec?

The point isn't to make an "unkillable" hulk, it's to make a hulk that is a less attractive target than one's neighbours.
Or one that needs more destroyers than you happen to have in gang...
It's a similar principle to being safe on the African plains even though you can't out-run a lion by bringing someone along who runs even slower than you.

Yeah but the lion actually cares about expending energy and effort. These guys are out there for the PURPOSE of dying and expending their ship. They DONT CARE

Wrong. The effort required to gank a properly tanked hulk is much higher than the free kill offered by one with empty meds. In fact, if I were to gank hulks, I'd make sure to scan them first to pick the free kills and leave the few bricks alone, since the amount of effort required is way too high.
A high alpha ship can reach a 10k alpha, enough to instantly kill a hulk without tank. With tank, it'd take much more than that..

You have 3 guys in suicide-tempests rocking up to a belt full of hulks. You can gank 3 untanked hulks or (maybe, if you get good damage rolls) 1 tanked hulk.
Choose.
Even if you dont care about losing your gank ships, as obviously you dont, there is still an opportunity cost involved.

best way to keep safe during hulkageddon is to only mine in grav sites, set your d-scan to a close range and hit scan like it owes you money. if you see 4 or more scanner probes that means someones got a lock on your site.
chances are suicide gankers wont even look in these sites and if they do decide to have a poke around you'll see their probes and have more than enough time to get out.
fly smart and you wont even need to tank your ship
