If a player kills a player, he receives Neg Sec Status, and is essentially outlawed and deemed a pirate.
So, logically, if a bunch of players with positive sec status go hunt pirates, shouldnt they be rewarded and gain Sec status?
I'm sure this has been talked about before but... I was curious on the logicality of the system... ----------------------------

Too exploitable - create a throwaway alt, drop his sec status to minus ten, then kill him repeatedly whenever you want to fix your sec status. Signature removed. |

He does kinda have a point. And I wouldn't really call it an exploit, I imagine killing a -10 character in a noob ship would be like killing an NPC frigate, it would give you about the same sec status gain. In other words, it would make much more sense to grind rats, and there really wouldn't be any point to hunting pirates for sec status. Just from the point of view of "why doesn't it work this way" though, it seems like it should.

security status gains depends on destroyed ship size and is limited to once per 20 minutes per system. rookie ship would be worth next to nothing and there would have to be 10 alts with battleship in 10 systems to make it as good as NPC ratting.
sounds like a good idea. it's only matter of balancing the numbers. ________________________________ : Forum Bore 'Em : Foamy The Squirrel - [jedi handwave] "There is no spoon." |

Through PC kills? So you run into someone's house, smash up their Dell and run out again?

what if there would be link between Bounty and Sec gain. E.g. if you kill negative sec player you can pick from two options: 1) pick bounty or 2) increase your Sec. Status
Now the point 2 would be in direct link with bounty. E.g. for each 20M Bounty Isk you can increase your sec status by 0,1 if target had negative sec. status.
So if you would exploit it, it would mean basically that you can "buy" sec status through your alt. 200M per 1.0 of sec status. Maybe it would need to be more expensive? Or maybe it could scale... so considering your own sec status, if you are below anywhere between -0.0 to -1.0 you need 10M bounty on target head to increase by +0,1... for -1.01 to -3.0 it wuld take 20M per 0.1 gain... etc...
It could eventually create bounty hunting profession, because in that case you could see bigger bounties on heads, because than it would motivate random pilots to check whether it is worth to try to kill some target to get your sec stat up.
..maybe :)

Let's not be silly here.
I don't think anyone is calling a Dell a PC.

I love this quote. The implication being that pirates only attack people weaker than themselves.

It may just work
ItĘs often quoted in posts that the doctors that treat animals have all the best ships, most isk and greater knowledge on Eve, so next time you take your animal in for treatment, threaten them to see if they will give you any of their stuff

Just remove the sec gain from every single NPC in game except for the lowsec belt rats and things will be awesome.
If you do the crime, then you will have to do the time in a not so nice place and not just JC back to your BFF 0.0 region or grind mission back up to +5 after you reached -0.5 ganking some haulers.
As posted above, killing outlaws for sec gain is too easy to exploit.
