It seems that, in the near future, I will have access to a 3d colour printer.
Obviously one of the first things I thought of when I discovered this was a couple of Thorax hulls to escort my Megathron model... perhaps a Brutix... maybe an Armageddon... I might have been getting greedy at this point
Now I'm aware that, provided these models are for my personal use and I don't try to sell them, it's not a problem from CCPs point of view.
There are several things I need to know though: Where in the client can I find the models? How do I extract them? What format are they in? What programs would I need to use to put them into a format which Catia (version 5) can read? (or alternatively) How would I convert them into one of the following formats (STL, VRML, PLY, 3DS or ZPR)? --

There was also last week on general discussion were someone either used a 3d print or a cutting machine to create a 3d Caldari key fob (I think it was). There was dev response saying 2 things 1) Its ok to use the CCP copied models as long as its for personal use only
2) They wanted one of the key fobs.
If you are unsure you could always file a partition to check on the permission. CCP are run by gamers and game designers and not copy right lawyers.
There was also an older thread (2 years ago?) about someone printing a model of the old style pod. You may want to search the forums for the work printer, I suspect that you are not going to find may threads about the type that use paper.
One final comment. Remember once you have produced a model, you are morally obliged to post pictures to annoy and make jealous those without access to a 3D printer. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |
