The latest DEV blog says that the new forums are open for testing, but they will not allow me to log in. I can log in to EVEGate but not the new forums. I have no option to post or create a new thread. Is there a cap or restrictions I'm missing?
I guess it's not really open for public testing?

you have probably changed your password or activated your account since the time of the last sisi mirror.
Use your old password or petition for your account to be activated on sisi (if it was inactive at the time of the mirror).

Works fine for me, it could be that if you have a new account it wasn't available at the time of the database mirror.

Never been on the Sisi server. Didn't know that was a requirement for the new forums?

Both the old and new forums are very closely tied in with the ingame database, and as such the test forums have to run off a test mirror of the database.
In short: If your account was inactive or you changed your password since this test mirror was created, you won't be able to log in without using the old password or having a GM activate the account on the test server.

2 years, 7 months considered a new account? I know I haven't played that much lately due to work, but didn't think they made you start over.
When I click on the log-in button in the forums, it takes me to the download section for the game. It's no big deal, just could not figure out why.

That was it. I click on one of the buttons (unmarked of course) and it logged me into the new forums. Thank You Sir!

I honestly don't believe that becuase unlike factional warfare or cosmos missions, eve gate is a major part of their marketing, they didn't get a team of old school devs for this project. they put 3 in charge and hired a whole new team.
Eve gate is going to become amazing. Becuase CCP, if anything, is great at marketing. they pride themselfs on it.
now as for eve it's self... they have adhd when it comes to new features. : P I think, honestly, they don't fix some things like factional warfare or sov warfare becuase they would rather throw out the old design completely, and start from scratch.
I'm not saying this is a good way to think of it, but it makes sense if you think about it. they have BIG ideas. HOpefully something will change after incrana and they will realise that we aren't ok with the way 0.0 or wars are played out gets completley changed every few years.

Yet still the thing fielded simple design/usability flaws upon launch?! Something doesn't calculate here..

stop being a forum warrior and really think about it. the simple things, are the things that are easy to break in code.
also not being able to log in because you don't understand how sisi works is not a design flaw : P
With the new forums I can finally add any search I want as an rss feed, or any thread. that only is a giant feature, and works great.
also I just got a simple firefox plug in to make text bigger. becuase right now there is no difference in size for me between the two forums.

No, but do you think a slight mention that it requires a SISI login earlier than Date X before unleashing it on the forums could have helped avoid a lot of negative press on the new feature? I reckon it would.
Originally by: PTang the simple things, are the things that are easy to break in code
If you insist that every developer implement their own version of sprintf( ) and malloc( ) or whatever perhaps. But once there is a focus on code re-use and following existing, tested and established design patterns? Not so much.

I'm sorry to hear about your eyesight problems. For me, however, I would prefer a design that allows me to use the screen real estate I have for actual content, rather than pretty frames. I read the forums for information and to follow discussions; not to see who can do the best iJunk / Facebook impression.
But then, I have a basic competency in reading and writing, use punctuation if somewhat inappropriately, etc.
If you are a "roflmao ur mom" forum poster this new design aimed at a Neanderthallic 3 grunts per post is fantastic. No argument from me there.

Why would tat be kind of poster?
1st off there was a dev post a week ago and a dev blog like a month ago saying it would require an active sisi account.
2nd of all, the current eve forums already only have the forum in the middle. there is a big gray bar to the right you don't use for anything. Lot of cool features that stay with the page can be added, like rss feeds, and quick links.
plus I'm sorry but all code gets buggy. there is no OS, or program ever made that was not buggy at release, it's just a fact, I'm sorry the world isn't prefect. Company are graded based on how fast they fix those bugs.
It's like going on sisi, and complaining that you found a bug, it makes you look stupid.

Chribba, you plan on continuing to mirror the new forums on Eve-search? Even if the search function on the new forums is better, it's still nice to see what people posted before the mods edited everything

The plan is to continue if possible yes, as it provides additional functions than just search (history and filter avoidance lol)

Well in direct comparison the bars in the current forums aren't that big... http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/9160/forumspace.jpg
On top of that, on the new forums this space is really empty (except for the "TOP" button), while the current forums use this space for navigation and the (admittedly useless) search.
