So I am looking to replace my graphics card. I have an old nvidia Geforce 8800 GT. Yeah.. its been a few years. So, for video games, I mostly play EvE with a bit of Battlefield Bad Company. I have noticed when I am playing Bad Company, my screen will begin to flash white. While this may or may not be a video card issue, I feel that it is time to upgrade. I am willing to put a some money into it within reason. Your input would be welcome.
Thanks in advance.

The 560's are priced nicely (priced around $300ish here in Sweden) and performs very well. If you are on a budget, the 460's are another alternative.
Google the galore of reviews otherwise.

If you have the MB and PSU, you could SLI 2 x 460's. That might be overkill for your needs but would roughly work out to the same price and the scaling is very good.
It's a little bit like buying a 128GB SSD or buying 2 x 64GB SSD in RAID-0...same price, double performance.

We need to know what CPU you have, as well as your PSU...
A crap CPU won't do much good with a highend vid card as the CPU will bottleneck it... example world of tanks... I max out one core on my 875k @ 4.0 BUT my vidcard almost never goes over 90% usage... CPU is bottlenecking it...
NEVER sli when you can buy a GPU better... sure SOME things it scales well... NEVER 100% and those things that cant use sli.... your SOL... one card is always better than 2.

Just get a $100 one (ATi bang 4 buck or GTS460) and replace it in 2-3 years. Never has been worth spending big bucks on gfx cards. Each game gen deprecates them all .. regardless of how much they cost or how they spec'd 18 months ago they're now ****.
So why bother?

My 9800GTX+ is still working just fine so if you are wanting to stay nvidia then go for the 460 line as the newest cards are still overpriced for what you get. You will appreciate the extra aa you can stack on and still hit the vsync limit.

You might have to upgrade the power supply. I was looking at refurbished nVidia GTX 275, it called for 550W power supply.

Yeah. I figure that I could trade up to a higher PS. That's a quick fix and I was thinking I should do that anyway.
So the Nvdia 470 series sounds about right. As far as options, PNY, EVGA, ASUS, ect. What manufacturer would you go with?

Reading Newegg reviews is probably the best.

I have an i5 760 (2.8GHz quad), I manually disabled the turboboost feature (the extra frequency was seldom needed but was constantly kicking in, power consumption and also temperature spiking for no good reason because of it, so I just turned it off), a moderately-factory-overclocked 460 GTX (core at 715MHz vs stock frequency of 675MHz), and my PSU is only a 550W one, apparently with quite a few power to spare since I did try to overload it (DVD burn plus DX11 benchmark with video compression running in background to max out all possible power consumption, it did not throw any errors, and I doubt you'd normally use it like that anyway)... and no plans for SLI any time in the future, plus I totally refuse to manually overclock anything, so it has more than enough power for me. Your 500W PSU should be just about enough given the rest of your computer configuration if you're buying a stock 560 Ti (or even a 460 GTX like mine, I'm more than happy with its performance, heck, probably even a stock 460 GTX will work just fine for another couple of years and it's much cheaper)... ...that is, unless you plan on going into 2-way SLI mode and/or getting a more power-hungry graphics card instead of that one and/or plan to overclock something, in which case, you totally should upgrade the PSU.

I've got an EVGA 460GTX (went from a 9800 which is very similar to the 8800) and its performing very well indeed (CPU is a core 2 quad 2.83 and they perform nicely together). Got about a doubling of frame rates in most games.
I liked the build quality too - felt more solid than some of the others I've seen recently.
They're pretty cheap these days and should be good for a good while yet.

So I think I have narrowed it down to 1 of the 3 graphic cards.
1.) EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPB (Fermi) 01G-P3-1561-AR Video Card
2.) EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 012-P3-1470-AR Video Card
3.) EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) SuperClocked 012-P3-1472-AR Video Card

They are all close to the same price and similar performance.

Don't bother with 470's. They are very noisy and eat a lot of juice. And the 560's perform about the same or even better than the 470's.

The GTX 550 Ti is out very soon and looks like a good choice for the $200 range if you don't want to heat your room with it (110W max.).
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

Very recently changed from Ati product (2x700pross/2x1GBDDR5) to Gigabyte Gtx460
Asus motherboard, intell i5-750 (OC), kingston ddr1600so the base is good.
The + after this change:
-graphics: the difference is just insane -noise: used to have a truck engine in my bureau either using autocad or playing eve, it's over. -price: the nice surprise is that i've payed this one less than 50% the first one cost me over one year ago how should I not be happy?
The - after this change:
-Spend more time playing -graphics are too much beautifull -I can work with autocad and play Eve (mining) -I can run 2 accounts now AND autocad with no trouble = I play at work
Buyed ATi once and since I've buyed the top line GC (at that moment) I was expecting this stuff to work properly at least 2years but had so many issues resuting troubles not only playing but most important with my job (autocad) that I'm not ready to ever use another ATi stuff. ________________________________________________
