Nice job Sturmmann, keep at it and you'll be a Rottenfnhrer in no time. Also EVE Search for the win, there was a point behind the profanity, even if it escaped your feeble mind. |

If CCP were to take all the worlds different languages into account when naming stuff eve would be pretty boring. As a swede I find the system "balle" to fairly strange since it is the swedish counterpart(-ish) for "co*k", but then again stuff like this is what makes EVE ... EVE.

Many of offensive words or "swear" come from something legitimate...
In he 1700's, ships would send manure from the old country to the new world. If the manure was left on the deck and it mixed with sea water, it would create a gas from the mix of the salt. They decides to ship the manure up on raised platforms. The platforms had a sign that said:

Originally by: karl serebrier I noticed a player with an obscene name in local and it made me wonder why CCP allow these to be created in the first place, and given how easy it would be to add a block list at the name creation point, makes me wonder if CCP don't care or ever spent time doing some occasional character name searches to see what has been created over time.
1. Define "obscene" 2. Make a list of every "obscene" name 3. Create every variation (e.g. "v4ruiation") 4. Tell us when you reach several million words and give up.

Of course, your definition of obscene doesn't match mine, so who is correct? Why should CCP use your particular definition?
Quote: ...but the character names are not an interaction...
Wrong. They very much are an interaction and your post proves that point.
Names affect everything from how you interact with a player to how they are targeted in combat.
Ever heard, "Sort by name" during an engagement? Happens all the time. Guys at the top of that list tend to get targeted first. The point being that your name influences interaction.
Quote: I also know it's given that I am a prude and immature, I live in my Mom's basement etc etc, to save the usual protagonists the bother. Any thoughts?
That may be true, but you should probably add "mentally deficient" if you want to provide a more complete view of yourself.

I'm sure someone finds my name obscene, but too bad. Origionally named him Shi'theed. But because someone from local told on me in the first 5 min and told me about it I just remade the same char with a slightly less rude name.
Heres the thing though. The name fits, I enjoy mwding into aligning freighters at jita 4-4 in my stabber, doing about 2.5km/s.

I have a good laugh at some character names, especially ones with a double meaning... usually one is very innocent, but the other one rude.
Regarding what is obscene depends where you are coming from. EVE like other MMO's brings together players from a broad spectrum of backgrounds with the inevitable clash of values. Most names just seem to be gratuitously offensive to some social groups but will be normal to others. Raising the middle didgit to traditional values is generally tolerated online.
Other names are just downright insensitive... for example 'stillborn' is probably seen as being a bit edgy by most people, however it could be highly distressing for a player who has experienced a stillborn child in RL. Players choosing these names either don't think about other people's circumstances, or don't give a to55. I guess whatever your own views, it reveals something about the RL player behind the character.

While cute, that story is actually 100% made up. I'd cite you some sources pertaining to the true origins of the word, but the links would get auto censored by the forum D: - - - Dian'h Might - C&Ps resident "internet kleptomaniac" |

Is there no active moderation by CCP to remove these accounts that appear to be a joke in the first place, made by some dolt just to see if it can be done.
Have a search for [p$*o] [c$*t] choose your poison, there are some that are quite nasty. I understand that player interactions are not ESRB rated but the character names are not an interaction, but a persistent element of the game.
I also know it's given that I am a prude and immature, I live in my Mom's basement etc etc, to save the usual protagonists the bother. Any thoughts?

Considering this is an icelandic game I don't know how the system name "Brundakur" got slipped in. It pretty much means mans sexual fluid field, only in a (lot) more explicit manner. __________________________
